Class Presentation XII-W (19-08-2020)

Topic- Alone Together

In these challenging times, while we are cut off from each other, we must have faith that no matter how hard the times are, our resilience will get us through the darkest of days. We need to resist the urge to react and instead respond more meaningfully in a manner that reflects the hope of a brighter tomorrow.

krodhad bhavati sammohah
sammohat smrti-vibhramah
smrti-bhramsad buddhi-naso
buddhi-nasat pranasyati

This Shloka from Bhagavad Gita means that anger leads to perplexity, and from perplexity arises confusion. This in turn leads to us losing the power of reasoning. So what we need to do is exercise self control, for any deed done in a strong flow of emotion is bound to become an act of greatest regret.

The following quote by Jeanette LeBlanc sums up the essence of the class presentation beautifully:

“Because in our pain we must find each other – mirror to mirror the grace of our shared humanity, the stunningly broken beauty of our shared grief.

And you can let your grief see my grief and let our tears mingle into some kind of healing alchemy, and you’ll know what I know. That we are never alone.”

The presentation began with the prayer ‘Ae Maalik Tere Bande Hum’ by Asmita Ohri. It was followed by an opening delivered by Saumya Goyal who also shared the rationale behind the choice of topic. Ujjwal Kirti shared a Shloka from the Bhagavad Gita to encourage the practice of responding rather than reacting. The thought for the day was shared by Arya Malik, followed by the recitation of a self composed poem by Ujjwal Kriti. Mansi Ahuja sang a cover of Fix You (Coldplay) and the vote of thanks was delivered by Shivansh Gaur. Snigdha Adil and Stuthi Nair were the comperes for the whole Presentation. The creative work on the title slide of the Presentation was the work of Kanika Gupta. The  e-invite and the audio compilation was done by Snigdha Adil and the  video invite was crafted by Shambhavi Arora.

The Moot Court Simulation Competition

The Legal Studies department of DPS R.K. Puram, under the guidance of the teacher-in-charge Ms. Sabreena Bansal, conducted an online Moot Court Simulation competition for students of classes XI and XII on 19 August 2020. The virtual competition aimed to simulate a court hearing in which participants were required to analyse the presented case, research the relevant laws, prepare written submissions according to the stance of petitioner or respondent allotted to them, and present oral arguments. The case explored a conflict between the basic tenets of the Constitution – individual liberty and dignity on the one hand and freedom of religious denominations on the other, dealing with issues like gender equality, personal laws, human dignity and the role of the State in a secular and democratic republic. The case also aimed to reinforce concepts that constitute the class XI and class XII curriculum, namely Fundamental Rights, Family Law and Judicial Processes, among others.

The event was held in two rounds and candidates were shortlisted based on their written submissions to qualify for the second round. The Oral Session gave the aspiring lawyers a platform to present their arguments within a time limit of 4 minutes, raise rebuttals to refute the opposing side and answer questions by the Bench. The advocates were judged based on their court craft, oratory skills, confidence, structure of legal arguments, time management ability and rebuttals. The session provided a memorable learning experience for all students involved.

I pay thee homage.

Independence Day Celebrations – Biology Style!

15th August 2020

Even the Novel CoronaVirus running amok couldn’t dampen the spirits here at D.P.S., R.K. Puram, where Independence Day was rung by the teachers and students of the Biology and Biotechnology departments in full fervour by organising and participating in some wonderful and innovative online activities.

The main activity of the Biotechnology department consisted of each of the participants explaining a concept of Biotechnology along with its principle and significance by the means of neatly labelled, colourful diagrams… the catch being that the diagrams had to be illustrated in the colours of the National Flag of our country!

As for the Biology department, the main activity consisted of participants elaborating on the development and innovation made in the field of Biology since Independence by the means of cartoons, collages, mind maps, comic strips or posters on the same topic.

The participants were to be judged on the basis of their creativity, the amount of research involved, their understanding of the art form, relevance of the caption chosen by them, and the overall presentation. After the completion of the activities, the participants were asked to upload their work on the Google Classroom platform in the form of an assignment and/or showcase their work in the live online classes. The students turned up with some magnificent renditions of their own, some of which are showcased here.

The activities were thoroughly enjoyed by both; students and teachers alike, and provided a beautiful new medium of introducing the participants to the intricacies of the subject, while at the same time instilling a feeling of national pride in their hearts.

Independence Day Science Activity- Classes VI-VIII

Independence Day Science Activities were organised from 10th August-15th August 2020 for the students of Classes VI-VIII to celebrate the spirit of patriotism on the 74th Independence Day. The topic was ‘Development and Innovation in the Field of Science & Technology since Independence’. Students were asked to prepare an illustration in the form of collage, poster, comic strips, cartoons or mind map, giving a suitable caption, based on the topic. The submissions were very attractive as the students focused on the topics like Make In India, Digital India, space programmes, development in the field of agriculture, communication, healthcare and technology.
