Yashna Rustagi (XI-E) of the Expressions Theatre Club of Delhi Public School R.K.Puram participated in ‘Villains of the Bard’, an enactment of Shakespeare’s dramatic monologue at ‘Image 2019: Sanrakshan’ organised by Cambridge school-Noida on 29th November 2019.She played the role of Iago from the play Othello and secured the First position.
Delhi Public School, R K Puram lifted the 2nd Runners up trophy of ‘International Finance Olympiad’ and ‘Global Economics Olympiad 2020’. Neasha Mittal of X E, Bhavya Lakhina of 10H, Aaditya Gupta of 11P and Japneesh Singh of 12N were awarded a cash prize of Rs twenty thousand as a team on 25th January 2020.
Sagnik Anupam and Tanish Goel of DPS RK Puram have been awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2020 .As a part of the award, they have received a certificate, a citation, a cash award of Rs. 1,00,000, and a tablet. They received the award from the Honourable President of India at a ceremony at the Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan on 22 January 2020. They were also felicitated by the Honorable Prime Minister of India at his residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, and interacted with the Honorable Minister of Women and Child Development. They were also a part of the Republic Day parade on 26 January 2020 in New Delhi.
Sagnik Anupam has got the award for developing a machine-learning model that can predict water levels up to four days in advance for the Brahmani-Baitarani river basin in Odisha. For his project, he used rainfall and river discharge data from the past 40 years to train his model to predict water levels and created a cloud-computing based web app to run simulations. Combining data from satellite images and other sources, he has developed a sub-district level flood vulnerability index to help early evacuation. His early-warning system is highly generalizable and can also be used on other river systems to help flood-prone areas around the world. Recognizing his contributions to science, he has been selected as a member of the Junior Academy of the highly-acclaimed New York Academy of Sciences. Sagnik has also won laurels for India at many different international and national competitions. He was a part of the contingent for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2018, held at Pittsburgh, USA. As a part of a team, he has also won a First Award in the Grade 11 Large Team category of the NASA Ames Space Settlement Design Contest 2018 and was a finalist at the Conrad Spirit of Innovation Challenge 2017, held at Orlando, USA. He was also a member of India’s first team to compete at the International Youth Physicists’ Tournament, held in Beijing, China, in 2018
Tanish was awarded the Bal Shakti Puraskar in the category of innovation .He was recognized for creating a machine learning algorithm which autonomously detected emotions based on facial expressions and speech with a team of college students in a research internship (The only high school student out of 350 college students); for winning the NASA Goddard award at the Conrad Spirit of Innovation Challenge, with a team of 3 . He became a junior member at the New York Academy of Sciences, where he worked on a Lunar Space Settlement project with a global team (6 members from 4 countries and 5 cities).

Knowledge and Awareness Mapping Platform(KAMP)– an initiative of CSIR- National Institute of Science Technology and Development Studies (NISTADS), intended to identify and capture Scientific and Technological temperament in students . NASTA Exam was conducted on January 27,2020 and January 28, 2020 .
134 students from our school of grade 5th to 10th, appeared for NATIONAL ASSESSMENT FOR SCIENTIFIC TEMPERAMENT AND APTITUDE “NASTA”. The subjects included Science, EVS /Social Science, Mathematics, Digital Literacy/IT. In this exam 6 students secured District Ranks and 22 students got an A+ Grade.

The Khelo India Youth Games 2020 were held at Guwahati (Assam) from 10th to 22nd January 2020. Sixteen state teams participated under the sport Lawn Bowls. Six of our school students represented Delhi and won Silver medal under two event categories.

Delhi secured the overall Third position in the Khelo India Youth Games 2020 Lawn Bowl Event.
Samaira Mohapatra had participated in 34th ITF Taekwondo National Junior Championships held at Goa on 28 Dec 2019. She won a Bronze Medal. She is a black stripe holder.
On the occasion of the 20th World Human Rights Day, the Principal, Ms Vanita Sehgal was felicitated with the prestigious 2019 Global Human Rights Protection Award at the 20th Human Rights Congress organized by the Indian Institute of Human Rights at India International Centre on 10 December 2019. The award was received on her behalf by Ms Rupa Das and Dr. Atika Dayal, Heads of the Department of Geography and English respectively along with four students.
The Human Rights Congress was presided over by Dr Rahul Rai, Director of the Indian Institute of Human Rights. The award was also conferred on Mrs Judith K K Kan’goma- Kapijimpanga High Commissioner of the Republic of Zambia; Major General Mr Chris Sunday Eze (Rtd.) High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; and Mr Amadou Ndene Ndoye, Minister Counsellor, Embassy of the Republic of Senegal and Principals from other schools. In their acceptance speeches, the human rights dignitaries emphasised on the strong link between democracy and human rights, stating how the two are interconnected and went hand in hand. They highlighted the need to eradicate stereotypes and bring in a new paradigm of equality for all, regardless of race, religion or socio-economic status.
The quest for knowledge, like everything else of value, is not to be obtained easily. It must be worked for, studied for, thought for, and more than that must be prayed for. To encourage the students to widen their knowledge on the English language DPS Mathura Road had organized Inter DPS Quiz Competition on 8 December 2019. Two students from each school from classes VI to VIII participated in the competition. Aadya Kashyap and Aarav Shrivastava of VIII C from DPS RK Puram stood second.
Delhi Sanskrit Academy organised various competitions at the Zonal Level. Many schools of South-West Zone participated in the event. Maanya Sareen (X-J) and Parth Kumar (IX-K) participated in the Sanskrit Debate Competition and secured the 1st position.

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted its annual Scholar Badge Ceremony for class VII on 3rd of December, 2019. This event aims at honouring the curricular and co-curricular achievements of the students for the year 2018-19. The theme of the event was “When I went beyond myself, the pathway finally opened” – a message that inspired the scholars to work diligently for their ambitions and effectively utilise their potential.
The event commenced with the auspicious lamp lighting ceremony by the Chief Guest, Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, Vice Principals, Ms. Padma Srinivasan and Dr. Renu Nayar and the Headmistress, Ms. Niva Chhonkar to invoke the blessings of the Almighty. The scintillating beats of the orchestra welcomed the gathering to this prestigious event. A video presentation was displayed showcasing the achievements of the students in several spheres.
The Principal felicitated the Chief Guest, Dr. Mohapatra, who is currently the Director General of Meteorology, India Meteorological Department. He is the permanent representative of India with WMO and has been elected as a Member of the Executive Council. With a Ph.D in Physics and 26 years of experience in meteorology, he has made significant contributions towards the improvement of early warning services of IMD. He is popularly known as the “Cyclone Man of India”. He is also the author of more than 75 research papers and has been awarded prestigious accolades like the 25th Biennial Mausam Award.
Ms. Vanita Sehgal began her address by expressing her pride in the curricular and co-curricular achievements of the scholars, saying that “their achievements just get larger and larger.” She elaborated how the school encourages holistic development of its students and provides them with numerous opportunities to acquire valuable skills, which succour them to grow as individuals.She emphasised on the theme by sharing anecdotes such as that of the Wise Old Man repeating his jokes to discover no one laughed at them thrice, condemning lamenting over the same problem over and over again, and of the Gifted but Lazy Child who took for granted his parent’s money. The evident conclusion was that the students should be made to realise the value of money and be held accountable for their actions, at the same time be optimistic by having faith in themselves.
She then said, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard” and urged the gathered to make perpetual efforts in order to achieve their goals. The Principal also recalled influential lines of a popular song called ‘The Climb’ by Miley Cyrus, which is adored and sung widely by adolescents. She commented how one has to encounter challenges which seem as huge as a mountain but with determination and hardwork one can scale these heights.
The Cultural Programme began with a soulful and upbeat rendition of the choir, which left the audience spellbound. This was followed by a spirited drama in Hindi depicting the wisdom and teachings of Kabir Das through the lives of two young school going boys. The English speeches sought to preach that even in unfortunate times, happiness and satisfaction can be discovered if one braces their heart and mind. Two exemplary dance pieces were presented before the audience, earning a loud applause for their enchanting movements and magnificent poses.The children recited ‘A Different Perspective’.The poem emphasised the importance of looking at things in a positive light. When recited top to bottom but shows the negative aspects of life when recited in reverse order.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Mohapatra, extended his greetings to the esteemed Principal, proud parents and scholars. He expressed how D.P.S. R.K. Puram serves as an ideal platform to spread the message on the information on climatic changes and its effects and how honoured he was to have the stage. He further elaborated upon the dire need to equip students with knowledge on climate in order to protect oneself and others against natural hazards and minimise the loss of life. He appreciated the various projects undertaken by the school regarding this concern and offered his maximum support and proposed the idea of “collaborative work”. Commenting upon the theme, he urged the gathered to believe that “everyday is a success story” and wished them the best for their future endeavours.The Chief Guest along with the Principal and Headmistress honoured the meritorious students and the Prize Distribution Ceremony was conducted by the Class Representatives, Ms. Ritu Raj and Ms. Richa Basrao.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by the Headmistress, Ms. Niva Chhonkar. The event concluded with the National Anthem.
Hindi Vikas Sansthan organised the Hindi Olympiad in September 2019. 49 students of DPS R. K. Puram got the gold, silver and bronze medals and certificates.
