India Fest 2022

INDIA FEST 2022-23

                  “Share our similarities, celebrate our differences.” – M. Scott Peck

Delhi Public School, RK Puram hosted the annual India Fest on 26 November 2022, organised by the Department of Humanities for the students of classes XI and XII, on the theme ‘Celebrating Diversity.’The students in grades XI and XII were encouraged to learn, explore and go beyond their comfort zone in order to catch the eye of the judges in a variety of creative challenges.

 

The event began with the school choir singing “Madhumaya Desh Hamara” an original composition on stage, accompanied by a live tabla performance, followed by a tribal Odissi performance. The radiant and synchronised dancers, dressed in traditional, vibrant attire, lit up the stage with grace and rhythm.

 

The event began with an address by the Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan, who emphasised the importance of learning from such events. She motivated the students to persevere in spite of the hurdles that may come their way, reiterating that only from failures do we get the drive to steadily move towards success, which helps them scale even greater heights. The principal felicitated the judges with a token of appreciation and regard.

 

The events included:

 

अभिव्यक्ति – A DEMONSTRATION (DANCE DRAMA)

The participants had to present a Dance Drama based on the themes of “Power of one”, “We rise by lifting others”, and “The Value of Self-worth” showcasing their best facial expressions, dance and dramatisation. Ten teams from different schools were judged on the basis of expressions and overall impact coupled with psychological and sociological relevance. Every act was beautifully prepared and enthralled the audience. After the completion, the judges – Nirmal Kuthari, Ruchika Rai and Gayatri Seth gave the students constructive feedback on their performances. 





 आओ, रखें, मन की बात-  DECLAMATION COMPETITION

 

As a part of this challenge, the participants had to present a speech on a wide range of topics, giving millennials a platform to express their views. The participants had to choose from 4 themes-’Unity in India Epitomises its Diversity’,’ Swawlambhi Bharat – Your Vision of a Self Reliant India’,’ Role of Youth in Nation Building’ and ‘Diversity: The Art of Thinking Independently Together (Malcolm Forbes)’. The participants were judged on the basis of the relevance to the topic, coherence, originality, diction and accuracy of facts. 

The judges- Mr. Anupam Lal Das, a senior advocate and Ms Yashee, a senior copy editor for the newspaper Indian Express, also asked questions and judged the participants based on their promptness in answering. The participants exuded confidence and showcased their knowledge of the topic.

 

अतुल्य भारत – TABLEAU ON STATES OF INDIA

 

The event showcased the physical features, forests and wildlife, traditions and cultures, dances and languages of specified states assigned to each participating school. The tableaus were a splendid sight, and the students acted as ambassadors of the various states with exuberance, skill and confidence. The jigsaw game and quiz questions kept the audience enthralled and protein bars as prizes energised the students and teachers. The judges, Dr Ashis Kumar Saha and Ms Rajyashree Ball felt rejuvenated and asked the students to stress the use of eco-friendly material, handmade and self-written models and titles. The speech, presentation and creativity were all a part of the judging criteria.

 

चित्रकथा: – A VISUAL PRESENTATION THROUGH INDIAN TRIBAL/ FOLK ART

 

In the event, the participants had to choose a folk tale and depict it through Tribal/Folk Art using different mediums. The detailed, layered artwork portrayed fables and folklore of the past, evaluated by the judges’ Ms Binu Chanan and Ms Nilanjana Nandy.

 

At the culmination of the event, Ms Shruti Mishra, the Head of the History Department proposed the Vote of Thanks. She conveyed her appreciation for the principals of all the participating schools on behalf of the principal Ms Padma Srinivasan. She also thanked the organising team, including teachers, students, and the support staff and emphasised the importance of celebrating India’s Cultural Heritage.

AN EDUCATIONAL TOUR OF THE NATIONAL MUSEUM

The History Department of the school organized an educational tour to the National Museum for Class VI students from 15 November to 23 November 2022. The excursion to the museum was quite fascinating and enriching for the students as they went on a field trip with their friends for the first time after the pandemic. With the permission and guidance of Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, it was facilitated by the Headmistress of Classes VI-VIII, Ms. Vinita Gupta, and Coordinator Ms. Shaloo Khanna.

The students were taken on a tour of various galleries such as the gallery of Harappan Civilization, the Early Medieval Art, the Late Medieval Art, and others showcasing Indian miniature paintings, sculptures, coins and statues of Buddha. Students showed keen interest in learning about ancient tools and weapons. They were fascinated by the ancient artifacts on display and the unique glimpse offered by all the objects and paintings, into the culture and heritage of India. The museum has undergone tremendous refurbishment in the last few years. It was a fun-filled experience for the students.

CELEBRATING THE SUCCESS OF AN ALUMNA

DPS RK Puram hosted the starcast of India’s first creature comedy Bhediya to celebrate the success of our alumna Ms Kriti Sanon, coming to theaters on the 25th of November, 2022 both in 2D and 3D. The guests included  Varun Dhawan, DPS RK Puram alumni Kriti Sanon (Batch of ‘07), Abhishek Banerjee, and debutant Paalin Kabak. A screening of the trailer was followed by an interactive session of the entire star cast with the students. 

The promotional session started with a screening of the trailer which evoked an enthusiastic response from the audience. This was followed by an interactive session with the students of classes XI and XII where the film-promotion team wished them luck for the remaining school year. The song Apna Bana Le introduced the lead actors Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon followed by songs Jungle Mein Kaand and Baaki Sab Theek. The team invited students on stage to learn and perform the hook steps of the signature song of the movie. 

The Principal Ms Padma Srinivasan, Vice Principals Mr Naresh Miglani, Mr Anil Kathuria, and Mr Mukesh Kumar and the Headmistresses Ms Rashmi Malhotra and Ms Vinita Gupta escorted Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Abhishek Banerjee, and Paalin Kabak to the stage amid energetic applause. 

Kriti Sanon was the epitome of grace, class, and beauty as she addressed her juniors warmly. She revived memories of her time in school and said that she was lucky to be present in school during the Golden Jubilee Year of DPS RK Puram. She reminisced about the Aloo Patties and Chowmein that were a staple during her time in school. She also said that DPS RK Puram gave her the confidence to follow her dreams and made her what she is today. She highlighted the importance of finding one’s passion in life. 

Varun Dhawan expressed his happiness to be in DPS RK Puram. He said that he thoroughly enjoyed spending time on campus, and listening to anecdotes of Kriti’s excellence in academics and co-curricular achievements. 

Abhishek Banerjee said that as a student he always looked up to DPS RK Puram as a wonderful institution, and was excited to be here in person. He also said that he had fun shooting the movie with his co-stars and crew, comparing it to a college trip. 

Paalin Kabak came on stage and gave a soulful rendition of a beautiful love song, and regaled the audience with comedic imitations of Kumar Sanu. 

Kriti Sanon and Varun Dhawan gave a sensational performance on Thumkeshwari and were joined by the rest of the cast members for a performance on Jungle Mein Kaand from the movie. 

Varun Dhawan followed up the entertaining session with an insight into their upcoming film Bhediya and addressed the conflict between Animal and Man, and underlined that the earth belongs to both. He added that this was a very special film geared towards spreading awareness amongst the younger cinephiles. He hoped that Bhediya would match the appeal of Hollywood Blockbusters. 

Kriti Sanon said that the movie was one of her personal favorites and she feels very connected with it. She talked about the VFX that were supplied by MPC Film who also gave the effects for Jungle Book, Planet of the Apes, and Lion King among others. 

The Principal Ms Padma Srinivasan joined the students in celebrating the success of Kriti Sanon, and hoped that she will be able to do the same for the present batch. She praised the journey of Kriti Sanon from her student life to superstardom.

GOLD AT ALL INDIA IPSC SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS

All india IPSC skating championships was held at Emerald International School Indore from 31 October to 2nd November 2022, Adhitri Shree 3 won Gold Medals in the 500 D, 1000 meter race , one 200 meter race respectively

Exun 2022-23 – International IT Symposium

Exun Clan, The Experts Unlimited Clan, The Technology Club at Delhi Public School, RK Puram hosted the 27th  edition of the Exun IT Symposium on the 12th and 13th of
November 2022 held during the Exun week from 7th to 13th November. Every year, STEM enthusiasts from India and beyond arrive at the symposium to test their mettle by battling it out with their skills and come together to have some of the most memorable, impactful and rewarding experiences which help them in crafting a better version of themselves whilst also giving everyone the perfect stage to celebrate the essence of technology.

The event began with the lighting of the lamp by the Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan. The Special Guests, Mr Hitesh Oberoi and Mr Abdul Sharif.

In the opening speech, the Vice Principal, Mr Mukesh Kumar welcomed everyone with his words of motivation. He encouraged all the participants to focus on active participation, showcasing their talent, connecting with their peers and enjoying the overall learning experience. He further thanked the principal, teachers, students, sponsors, computer faculty and staff members.

One of the esteemed Special Guests, Abdul Sharif, of ExtraMarks shared his inspiring views with the participants. He talked about student empowerment and motivated students to let go of the fear of rejection and focus on trying their best.
 

Mr Hitesh Oberoi, an alumnus of DPS RKP and currently the founder and trustee of Plaksha university and CEO at Info Edge India Ltd. inspired the audience with his hardworking persona and life occurrences. He encouraged the students to follow their passion and not let the noise of competition take over their lives.

The magnificent event had enthusiastic participation from 82 schools online from around the world and 56 offline to the venue. The Exun Symposium had significant international participation for the 3rd year and impressive national participation for the 5th year in a row. With over 20 events held in offline, online and hybrid modes, Exun opened its wide gates to every yearning participant to get involved, evolve and discover and this also boosted the clan to take yet another step towards achieving the global presence of Exun community; this appropriately serves their motto of “We, not I”. This Event also starred Sudocrypt v12.0 and Surprise x Locus The tech enthusiasts of Exun Clan held the Exun symposium 2022 under the supervision of the Computer Science Department of the school. The event was sponsored by ExtraMarks, PlayStation, Vardiano, Plaksha University and ONGC along with other community partners.

Build – Designathon

The build designation event chose the retro-throwback theme revolving around the game company. Out of the 19 teams in the preliminary round, 7 of them qualified. It involved game app design, web design, brand style guide, poster, merchandise, etc.

Build – Hackathon

Hackathon Prelims was held over 2 days during Exun Week, after which qualified teams were given another prompt and had a chance to showcase their final round creations in a pitch (offline). The finalists were also required to come onsite on the 12th where they worked on their products.

Build – Unreality

Unreality incorporated Game Development, Audio Production and 2D/3D Design, with a strong emphasis on assets created in-house. The participants had to use the diverse skill sets of their team members to create a game and tackle the prompt in the best possible way. Participants exhibited Audio Production, 2D/3D Designs and Game Development skills in their submission. The theme for Unreality 2022 was retro.

Competitive Programming

Our signature Competitive Programming event saw the participants face a plethora of problems based on logic, algorithms and data structures. They were evaluated based on the time they took to solve the problems. In the finals, it was a 1 v 1 knockout tournament and based on the time and quality of the code, the participant would win.

Crossword

The crossword events saw the participation of over 20 teams out of which 7 competed in finals which consisted of an unexpected round and the grid event.

ExML

A cross-disciplinary event with a variety of tricky tasks requiring you to make a better model than the other team with your machine learning skills. During judging, there will be an emphasis on data science quality, tangible results, and data ethics.

Girls in Tech

The girls in tech event received 39 registrations in the preliminary round with 10 teams being qualified. This Event involved the building of a business model and pitching it in front of the workshop office which was the CEO of Skilliet.

9 teams made it to the final pitching. These teams pitched ideas for app development to tackle problems faced by students in real life.

Group Discussion

Hardware

Out of the 11 prelims registrations, 6 teams qualified. This offline event held in Lab 3 inculcated troubleshooting hardware and installing arch and using the same to play the audio file.

Quiz

The quiz event in the symposium had numerous teams from across the globe that put their minds to cracking the winning code. 7 of those teams with the best minds proceeded to the final round. The quiz covered many aspects of the tech industry, its history, future and much more.  The finalists were required to answer many exciting questions on varied topics ranging from computers and technology to gaming to recent events in the world of IT. The quiz was played through a unique grid-based system with the “Infinite Pounce and Bounce” in play throughout the event.

SpaceTech

(Online) Dream up practical solutions for engaging problems in the environment of space, while exploring and learning about cutting-edge technologies of the present.

Sudocrypt v12.0

(Online)

Exun Clan’s flagship event of the year, Sudocrypt v12.0, is the annual international cryptic hunt. With thousands of participants and an exciting new system of game mechanics each year, levels are rewarding and challenging.

Surprise x Locus

The surprise event consisted of a series of tasks, whose details, as the name implies, are a surprise and will be disclosed on the day of the event itself.

These tasks tested everything from logical reasoning to artistic ability and participants had to be prepared to face anything.

Turing Test

(Online) This was a unique event both meant to provide an introduction to the amazing world of computational linguistics, as well as test one’s reasoning abilities. Questions were based on the pattern of Linguistics Olympiads.  It required logical reasoning abilities.

Domain Square+ Surprise Gaming

The surprise Gaming event involved individual participation, prelims of which was held online. This was covered in three rounds; with V Gaming in the first round, followed by VR gaming and then PS4 gaming in the final round. In the finals, they had to present an implication of presentation on rival consciousness of the deceased  using tech.

Domain Square+ PC Gaming

The PC Gaming event also involved individual participation, the prelims of which were also held online. This even encouraged PC Gaming among the participants and helped them to get a grasp of their strengths and weaknesses. In the finals, qualifiers played OG video games like doodle jump to showcase their talent

RoboKnights MX+C

Build a line-following robot that is capable of following a black line on a white surface autonomously in the least possible time.

In Round 1, participants competed against each other and were eliminated based on the total time taken to complete the track.  In Round 2, participants ran their robots on a second track and were timed. After this, the participants faced an interview with the judges in which they were required to explain the working of their respective robots to the judges and tell the judges about the efforts they put into making the robot.

RoboKnights Robosoccer

Participants  built and battled their robots for glory in the game of goals, ‘soccer’, competing with each other to stand ahead in the playoffs and ultimately win the champion title.

RoboKnights Embot

Participants had to code a robot to race through a maze full of dangerous obstacles in the least time possible, all on our self made web-based robotics simulator. Code were written in C++ or Javascript.

BISCUITS v3.0

(Online) The competition followed a cryptic hunt format. Participants had to solve the question to get an integral value or a string and submit it in the space provided.

There were 30 levels in the competition.

The questions in the event were based on circuit analysis, logic gates, embedded electronics, graphs, basic computer architecture, electronic signals, and machine learning.

Cubing – Pyraminx

(On Zoom) Participants had to possess a good amalgamation of pinpoint memorization and fine impromptu intuition in order to win. While registering, the participants were required to submit their World Cube Association ID (Optional).

Cubing Events were conducted online on Google Meet (Online Event). Participants were allowed to participate in more than one category type.

 

The closing ceremony of Exun 2022 commenced with Naunidh and Pratishtha, members of the Exun Clan inviting the founder and Vice-Principal of Delhi Public School, RK Puram, Mr Mukesh Kumar to deliver the vote of thanks and congratulate the participating schools and their Principals  on behalf of the Principal Ms Padma Srinivasan. In his speech, Mr Mukesh Kumar, highlighted the main goal behind the symposium as “Connecting with like-minded people”. He then took us through the journey of Exun and how it came to be. He also acknowledged the hard work of students to bring Exun to an international level as students across the globe have been seen participating in Sudocrypt events over the years. He ended his speech by thanking the whole computer department for their sincere and diligent support. The Presidents of the Exun Clan, Kavin and Shireen, shared their inspirational journeys in the club. The Presidents of RoboKnights and Domain Square+, went on to tell everyone about the importance of communication and connection.  The event concluded with the presentations and distribution of mementoes and awards to the judges and winners respectively. We hope that the club and students continue to thrive each year. Bar Raised Successfully!

ALL INDIA IPSC GIRLS AIR PISTOL SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP 2022

XIV All India IPSC Girls Shooting Championship was held at Daly College, Indore from – October 2022. Our students participated in the Air pistol event. Anya Gupta of  class IX H in the Under 14 category won a Gold medal  and Preksha Agrawal of Class X-L in the  Under 17 category won a Bronze medal.

ALL INDIA IPSC  BOYS AIR PISTOL SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP 2022

XVII All India IPSC Boys Shooting Championship was held at Rajkumar College, Raipur from 11-13 October 2022. Our students participated in the Air pistol event.Nevaan Wadhawan of Class X G in the Under 17 category won a GOLD medal and Shrey Bothra of class XII O -won a silver medal in the Under 19 Category.

  VISIT TO GANDHI SMRITI

 “My life is my message” – M.K. Gandhi                                                                                                   
Under the able guidance of the Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan, and facilitated by the Headmistress  of Classes VI-VIII, Ms Vinita Gupta, an excursion to the Gandhi Smriti for the students of Class VII was organised from 18 to 21 October 2022 by the History Department. The excursion to the museum was quite an enriching experience for the students as they visited the room where Gandhiji lived, the prayer ground where mass congregations were held and the place where Gandhiji was assasinated by the assassin’s bullets. The students also revisited Gandhiji’s life through the display of photographs, sculptures, paintings, frescos and the inscriptions on rocks and relics pertaining to the years that Gandhiji spent there. The evolution of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi to Mahatma Gandhi depicted through the panels of black and white photographs accompanied by a simple narrative helped students learn about Gandhiji through an enlightening visual experience. The visit was a great learning experience for the students.
