World Mental Health Day 2020

The World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October each year, with the first ever held in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health. Amidst the stigma that overpowers conversations on mental health, worldwide and especially in India, this day aims to combat the widespread lack of information and mobilize efforts for the same. It addresses the urgent need for meaningful recognition of mental health professionals and advocates.

The goal of this year’s World Mental Health Day campaign is increased investment in mental health. The bizarre conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic and its interdisciplinary implications have led to an exponential decline in mental health. It is thus necessary to acknowledge and celebrate the similarity of our struggles and the differences in their manifestations. Our students used art to express their empathy and passion for the cause: Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram’s Psychology Club organised an online Inter-Section Logo-Making Competition for classes XI and XII. We received exemplary and nuanced submissions, with the winning entries (given below) being the most insightful and reflective of a pivotal change in perception of mental health and mental illness.
