‘Reflections’- E-Poster Making Competition

The Economics Club of DPS R.K Puram organised an E-Poster making competition, ‘Reflections’ , for the students of class XII on 11th May. As Covid-19 Pandemic has proved to be a challenging time for our nation, this competition aimed to give the students an opportunity to delve deeper into its impact and ‘reflect’ on their opinions regarding the same. The event was conducted by 5 students: S P Thanusree 12U, Nimisha Dhawan 12U, Shashank Sinha 12U, Neasha Mittal 12L and Shuchita Singh 12K along with their teacher-in-charge Ms Vijayalakshmi. 

The two topics for designing the digital poster were: Health: Rich-poor Divide and Development comes at a cost. All the posters were displayed in the main event and each participant was asked to talk about the message they wished to convey through their posters. The depth of understanding portrayed by the students was  remarkable. The event included a mini-interactive session wherein students were presented with interesting Economics facts. It was a great learning experience for everyone who participated and attended the event.

Guest Speaker Programme 2021- Political Science and Legal Studies

The political science and legal studies department of DPS, R.K. Puram organised a guest speaker programme on 11 May 2021 by Advocate Ruchi Agnihotri on the topic “Fundamental rights in practice”. 

It was a very informative and interactive session which was attended by the Political Science students of Class XII . The session which lasted for about one hour was attended by our esteemed Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, Vice- Principal,Dr. Renu Nayyar, Head of Departments of Political Science and Legal Studies, Economics, History and Geography, Ms. Sabreena Bansal and other teachers from the Social Science department.

The session highlighted the  different fundamental rights and their practical uses. She emphasized upon the importance of these rights in our daily lives. She shared her views on the ongoing pandemic and its relation with Article 19 and Article 21 of our Constitution. 

In the end she answered the queries of the audience followed by an address by the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan. The vote of thanks was proposed by the head  of Political Science and Legal Studies Department, Ms. Vandana Chandhoke.It was a really fruitful session both for the teachers and students.

HISTORY GUEST SPEAKER PROGRAMME

The History Department of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized a guest speaker programme on 10 May 2021 for the history students of class XII on the topic “Rise and Growth of Sufism in India” by Miss Namita Singh. She is an Assistant Professor  in the Department of History, Aryabhatta College, of Delhi University. She specializes in medieval history. The webinar provided a thorough understanding of Sufism and its significance. It took the students into the medieval world, providing them a deeper insight of the growth and expansion of sufism as a movement. The knowledge was woven by Miss Namita in a captivating manner that kindled students’ curiosity. The informative lecture was followed by a series of meticulous and thought provoking questions, both by students and teachers which Miss Namita answered with patience and enthusiasm. The questions paved the path for more meaningful discussions. The session was finally concluded on a note of contentment among all the students. It proved to be a gratifying experience for both the students and the teachers.

Debating Society Summer Activity 2021

DebSoc, DPS RK Puram 


A debating workshop was organised by the English Debating Society (DebSoc) of Delhi Public School RK Puram for the students of Class XII. The workshop was conducted by Areeb Nabi, Anjali Kedia and Manhar Bansal (Class XII, Batch of 2021) with the help of the club members. 

The event began with a short presentation on debating in general. It consisted of broad principles underlying good debating and a short brief on the Asian Parliamentary Format. Questions and concerns were entertained from the audience. This was followed by a Model Parliamentary Debate on the motion – “This House believes that nationalism is a redundant concept.” 

The two teams comprised – Mridul Malani (XII M), Vir Malhotra (XII I) and Arsh Mir (XII L) on side government and Dhun Paliwal (XIIA), Alyssa Nagrath (XII S) and Drona Sharma (XII V) on side opposition. 

It was an extremely engaging and insightful debate involving nuanced arguments and befitting rebuttals put forward by both the teams. While side government argued that nationalism is a parochial concept which leads to wars and hinders globalisation, side opposition contended that nationalism was necessary for a sense of identity and belongingness.  

Finally, the side government emerged victorious with a 2-1 verdict in their favour. The adjudicators provided feedback to both the teams, elucidating the reasons behind their respective decisions. An audience vote was also carried out to get an idea about the opinion of the House. The audience voted in favour of the government. 

This marked the end of the workshop, following which some resources were shared with the participants to set them off on their journey towards thinking critically, formulating arguments and articulating them clearly – in short, debating.

THE LITERATI CLUB SUMMER ACTIVITY

“The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others”

The Literati Club of Delhi Public School organized a School Magazine cover design event for the students of class XII on 10 May 2021, on the topic “Empathy, Generosity, Brotherhood,  Compassion”. The students were given the opportunity to create the cover page of the annual magazine DIPS DIARY 2020-21.

The cover page makes up  one of the most important pages of the magazine. This year the Literati offered this  opportunity to the students who opted for the Literati Club as part of their summer activities. The students were pleased to be presented with such an opportunity and participated in the competition enthusiastically.

 A Quiz competition was also conducted to check their knowledge with respect to the English language and literature. The quiz included questions on famous authors, quotes, novels and general grammar. The students actively answered the questions and were delighted to expand their knowledge. The session turned out to be a wonderful experience not only  for the students but also for  the teachers.

SOCIAL SERVICE LEAGUE 2021-GUEST SPEAKER PROGRAM

Service League of Delhi Public School RK Puram organised a guest speaker programme for the students of the social service league on 4 May 2021. The speaker for the session was Mr Rachit Mathur,Founder of wewillwin.com and an alumnus of DPS,RKPuram.With every crisis, comes an opportunity. When the second wave of covid pandemic came out of nowhere, people found themselves unready and desperate for resources like ambulances,oxygen cylinders and hospital beds, everyone came together to help people get the resources they need. One such initiative, We Will Win, was started by Mr. Rachit Mathur, alumni of DPS RK Puram which provides verified data about various resources such as Home ICU, Isolation Facilities,oxygen cylinders,etc. He was invited to explain to the students about how important this issue is and how the students of the Social Service League of our school can also collaborate with this organization to work towards this noble cause.

Ms. Preeti Pratihari(Teacher in-charge of the Social Service League) and Ms. Aastha Kochar selected 14 students from the Social Service League, who will collaborate with Mr. Rachit and his colleagues and help contribute to this non profit organisation by handling the Social Media profiles and verifying data themselves about resources all over India.

PSYCHOLOGY CLUB-SUMMER ACTIVITY (2021)

The Psychology Club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized a workshop for the psychology students of class XI I on 7 May 2021on the topic Attachment theory, conducted by Ms. Vidhi Jain.

She is currently pursuing developmental psychology in the University of California, Los Angeles. She conducted a workshop for the students to help them gain a deeper understanding of attachment theory and its impact on our lives. It highlighted the importance of secure attachment in a child’s formative years. Ms. Jain talked about various types of caregivers and the huge role they play in shaping our personality. The students found the session to be intriguing and insightful. The experiments and their relevance was carefully showcased by Ms.Jain. The session supplied the students with interesting knowledge about the researches done in the field of developmental psychology with a special emphasis on attachment. The session proved to be a gratifying experience for the students and the teachers.

WeWillWin Initiative

The Covid-19 pandemic has locked us in our houses for more than a year now. With the second wave,the situation has worsened and many people are unable to access basic facilities like ambulances and beds and there is an acute shortage of oxygen cylinders and concentrators.We find ourselves feeling helpless because of the lack of information and awareness we have about the situation.

 The Social Service League of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram,under the able guidance and the farsighted vision of our Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, has collaborated with Mr. Rachit Mathur to help curb the situation. Mr. Rachit Mathur is the founder of wewillwin.in and an alumni of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram. Mr. Mathur’s team along with the teacher incharge of the Social Service League, Ms Preeti Pratihari, and a few students from the Social Service League, have taken on the responsibility of providing help to people in need by providing them updated and verified information ranging from availability of medicine, ambulances and meals to ICU beds, doctors and oxygen cylinders. Moreover,the students are using the power of social media to help spread awareness and aid those in need. 

On an average approximately 5000 families are being helped on a daily basis with the help of the team which internally collects and verifies information. We believe that together, we can make a bigger, collective difference, and are grateful to have got the opportunity to collaborate with We Will Win to create an impact.

TWO VARIABLES OF NATIONALISM

The History Department organized a virtual Guest Speaker Programme for the students of Class X on the topic: ‘Two variables of Nationalism’- in tune with the CBSE Curriculum on the 6th of May  2021. The Guest speaker was Dr.Savita Khan. This was followed by question hour.

SUMMER ACTIVITY REPORT – ENGLISH

Week 1

Delhi Public School R.K.Puram organised various summer  activities to  stimulate and challenge the students, who had to  adorn their thinking caps to complete these activities.The prime objective being providing an opportunity to the participants to creatively express themselves.

Grade 6 had Acrostic Poetry Writing and Recitation. The theme was ‘Mother’s Day’, students composed a small acrostic poem and recited it with appropriate intonation, voice modulation and expressions.

‘Caption-gram’ was the activity taken up in grade 7. The students were asked to write captions of any 4 pictures presented in the class.Grade  VIII students were asked to participate in Point of View. The students were shown a visual cue in the form of an advertisement. They were asked to watch it carefully and understand its context, following which the forum was open for sharing their individual views related to the topic and the video.

Class 9 had Picture Perfect-Writing a paragraph based on a picture and the emotional value underlying the image using cues given with it followed by an articulate narration of the write -up. 

Class 10 took up ‘Ekphrasis’ – Writing a poem based on a work of visual art.The students of Class 12 had a  Role Play.  Various characters from their text, ‘Lost Spring’ were given to them and choosing any 2 characters, they had to make a dialogue and present it in the class.

The activities are aimed to develop creativity,enhance knowledge and improve expression  and besides boosting their confidence.
