The History Department organized a virtual Guest Speaker Programme for the students of Class X on the topic: ‘Two variables of Nationalism’- in tune with the CBSE Curriculum on the 6th of May 2021. The Guest speaker was Dr.Savita Khan. This was followed by question hour.
Delhi Public School R.K.Puram organised various summer activities to stimulate and challenge the students, who had to adorn their thinking caps to complete these activities.The prime objective being providing an opportunity to the participants to creatively express themselves.
Grade 6 had Acrostic Poetry Writing and Recitation. The theme was ‘Mother’s Day’, students composed a small acrostic poem and recited it with appropriate intonation, voice modulation and expressions.
‘Caption-gram’ was the activity taken up in grade 7. The students were asked to write captions of any 4 pictures presented in the class.Grade VIII students were asked to participate in Point of View. The students were shown a visual cue in the form of an advertisement. They were asked to watch it carefully and understand its context, following which the forum was open for sharing their individual views related to the topic and the video.
Class 9 had Picture Perfect-Writing a paragraph based on a picture and the emotional value underlying the image using cues given with it followed by an articulate narration of the write -up.
Class 10 took up ‘Ekphrasis’ – Writing a poem based on a work of visual art.The students of Class 12 had a Role Play. Various characters from their text, ‘Lost Spring’ were given to them and choosing any 2 characters, they had to make a dialogue and present it in the class.
The activities are aimed to develop creativity,enhance knowledge and improve expression and besides boosting their confidence.
The Mathematical Society of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram organised a virtual guest speaker programme on the topic “Exploring problem solving using spreadsheets”, for class XII students on May 8 2021 on zoom meet.
The guest speaker was Dr. Jonaki Ghosh, a faculty of the department of Elementary Education, Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi where she teaches courses related to Mathematics Education.The Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan, teachers of Mathematics Department and students of class XII attended the guest speaker programme.
The session began with the Principal’s address.In her address the Principal spoke about the skill of problem solving which involves a great deal of dedication and a mathematical bent of mind.
The session included various problems like Estimating pi: The square circle method,the Spaghetti problem and the House Number problem. Along with the theoretical explanation, Dr. Jonaki Ghosh showed an invigorating way of solving the equations using spreadsheets. With advancing technology, how simple commands on the spreadsheets can give remarkable solutions to mathematics problems.Expertise of some great Mathematicians like Sirinivasa Ramanujan were also shared.
It was an interactive program with enthusiastic participation of students by answering the questions and displaying their curiosity towards the topic. The webinar was conducted as an interactive session by Tulip Mittal (XII-S) and Anhad Sood (XII-S). Mehak Aggarwal (XII-V) coordinated the interaction between the guest speaker and the audience.
The guest speaker programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Anil Kumar Kathuria, the Head of the Mathematics Department. The event was organised by Ms. Shalini Monga,Ms. S.K. Nagalaxmi and Ms. Tandeep Kaur with technical support from Mr. Mukesh Kumar and his team.
The YP Club of DPS, R. K. Puram conducted an activity session on 7th May2021. The session which lasted for about 30mins saw the participation of 16 students and was conducted by Ms. Swati Verma who gave a brief introduction to the Club and motivated the participants to speak confidently. They were given various topics and the students had to debate by choosing their stance on any one topic of their choice. The wide ranging topics were:

2. Has the 4th Pillar Of Democracy – Media failed?

The Accountancy Department of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram organised a virtual webinar on the topic ‘9 powerful skills to kick start your dream success in commerce stream’.
The webinar was organised on May 07, 2021 for the students of Class XII. The guest speaker for the day was Dr. Vijay Vikas. Dr. Vikas has conducted workshops for students and teachers, in his subject, particularly on topics such as:Unleash your true Potential, Smart work along with hard work, Importance of will over skill ,Higher Order Thinking Skills and on suggestions for excelling in the CBSE Accountancy papers and maximizing one’s potential in the Board Examinations.
Dr Vikas has also shared his wide knowledge and expertise with the CBSE in the development of Accountancy projects for Class XII. He has also worked with CIET, NCERT for promoting our Hon’ble Prime minister Shri Narender Modi Ji’s grand vision of “Entrepreneurial India”.
The Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan and the Headmistress Mrs. Rashmi Malhotra also graced the occasion. While addressing the audience, the Principal spoke about the essential skills like patience, hard work and dedication required to crack the board exams and then invited Dr. Vikas Vijay to enlighten the students with his words.
The webinar was conducted as an interactive session by Praanjal Arora (XII-S) and Anhad Sood (XII-S). During the session, the speaker interacted with the students by posing questions which were answered in the chat box. He elaborated on the mindset students must have during the preparation period and also guided students on how to stay motivated during these tough times and make the best use of the 300 days they have before the board exams. This was followed by a short Q&A session conducted by Praanjal and Anhad where the speaker patiently answered a wide range of questions providing a great deal of insight into the topic punctuated with practical advice for students, parents and teachers.
The webinar concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Reena Mehta, HOD Accountancy.
The History Department organised a virtual Guest Speaker Programme on 6th of May 2021 for the students of Class X on the topic:Two variables of Nationalism in tune with the CBSE Curriculum.The guest speaker was Dr.Savita Khan,a doctorate from the Jawaharlal Nehru University on Women’s education,who has been teaching history in University of Delhi colleges.She has also authored books on Women’s education and British Constitution.She has founded Madhubani Literature Festival and Maithili Machaan for the promotion of regional languages and literature.
The session was graced by our Principal ,Ms.Padma Srinivasan,Vice Principal Ma’am Ms.Renu Nayyar and Headmistress Ma’am Ms.Rashmi Malhotra Dr.Khan was welcomed by the Principal Dr.Khan spoke on the topic eloquently for half an hour which was followed by an interactive session conducted by Shiveshth Sharma of X-B where numerous brilliant questions posed by students were answered which added further clarity and insight to the topic.
The Guest Speaker Programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Shruti Mishra H.OD.History Department.The event was coordinated by Ms.Sohini Chakravarty,Class X history coordinator along with the technical support provided by Mr.Mukesh Kumar and his team.
The Physoc Club conducted the online summer activity -2021-22 on 6th of May, 2021. The event was conducted by the Club Presidents Sparsh Garg and Adit Chopra, Vice president Snigdha Kansal and Director Rohan Kumar under the supervision of the club in charge Md. Manirul Hossain.
The duration of the event was 30-40 mins. Each participant had to prepare a prototype of a model related to physics .The prototype could be made on a sheet of paper or using computer applications and softwares but it had to be neat and presentable .The Topics were –
• technological application to assist the aged people during covid situation ,
• covid wastage and other medical waste management .Children were most welcome to choose a topic of their interest as well..
Delhi Public School,R.K.Puram organised a Virtual Guest Speaker Programme on 5th May, 2021 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. for the students of classes VI-XII. The speaker for the event was Dr. Sujata Sharma, an alumna of Delhi Public School,R.K.Puram. Dr Sharma is a structural biologist, biophysicist and a professor at the Department of Biophysics at AIIMS, Delhi.The event was held on the Zoom Platform and addressed the trending topic of “Covid-19 Vaccines”.
The programme began with the virtual felicitation of Dr. Sharma followed by an address by the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan. Dr. Sujata’s talk session coupled with a 30-minute presentation gave a brief overview of the SARS-Cov2 virus, which we know as Covid-19 and also discussed the various aspects of vaccine development, citing examples of all the currently existing vaccines against the virus.
Succeeding the presentation was the Question & Answer segment in which many questions were put forth by the students to Dr. Sujata and her clarifications on certain aspects of vaccination like the time gap between the two doses and adverse side effects by some vaccines were sought. Both the students and teachers, including Mrs. Archna Deepak, in-charge of Think Lab participated enthusiastically to get their queries answered.
After the Question & Answer session, the gathering was addressed by the Vice Principal, Dr. Renu Nayar who appreciated Dr.Sujata for giving us clarity on the Covid-19 vaccination drive and removing our apprehensions. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Headmistress, Mrs. Rashmi Malhotra who expressed gratitude to Dr. Sujata on behalf of everyone for conducting the session and debunking the myths.
Digex Club Activity Session was conducted on 5th May 2021on the basics of photography for the photography enthusiasts. A lot of students joined to learn the basics of photography.The members of Digex society explained the foundations of clicking a good photograph. A variety of topics were covered regarding the technical aspects of photography which include, the basic structure of a camera itself, how light moves into the camera and different features that are integral parts of a camera. Important settings that every beginner should be familiar with such as ISO, aperture and shutter speed were explained along with an in depth explanation of the importance of having a unique point of view. A fun and interactive multiple choice quiz was later conducted in ‘Kahoot’ by the club incharge Ms Sarika Kaushal where students very enthusiastically participated and tested what they had learnt during the activity. “What are the best photo and video editing softwares for beginners?” , ” what cameras are recommended for beginners?” are few of the many questions asked by the students and answered by members.” It was an eventful session which received positive feedback.
A virtual Guest Speaker Program was organised by the Geography Department of Delhi Public School, RK Puram on the topic “Human Development” on 3rd May 2021 for the geography students of class XII and the teachers of the Social Sciences Department.
The session began with a welcome address by Ms Sangita Bajpai who introduced the guest speaker,
Dr. Zohra Jenkinson was an alumnus of University of Delhi and a DPhil in geography from Oriel college, University of Oxford . She is the Geography subject expert for Ofqual. She has been the Chairperson for Oxfordshire Women’s Aid for domestic violence charity, Oxfordshire Racial Equality Council and Independent Advisor to Thames Valley Police. She is a Founder member of Oxford South Asia Forum and now holds talks and raises funds for natural disasters in the Indian subcontinent such as earthquakes, cyclones etc. She has also been a Trustee of Orinoco Scrapstore in Oxford since 2000.
The Head of Department, Ms. Rupa Das welcomed the guest speaker with a bouquet of flowers and requested Dr Jenkinson to share her views on the topic- “ Human Development.”
Dr Zohra Jenkinson talked about many aspects of Human Development, the difference between Development and Growth and also how parameters of Development have changed over time. She explained the six basic pillars of Human Development- Equity, Sustainability, Productivity, Empowerment, Cooperation and Security and stated that human development shares a common vision with human rights.
The lecture was followed by an enriching Question-Answer Session where Dr. Zohra Jenkinson answered the queries raised by the students and teachers, often citing examples from her own experiences.
The session concluded with Ms Sangita Bajpai requesting the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan to address the gathering. The session was attended by the Vice Principal Ms Renu Nayar, the Head of the Departments of each branch of Social Sciences and the Social Science teachers. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Mahima Goel.

The Economics Department of Delhi Public School RK Puram conducted an online guest speaker programme for the Economics students of Class XII on 3 May 2021on zoom meet. Ms. Hema Chouudhary, the keynote speaker, a postgraduate from Miranda House discussed the Indian Economy amidst Pandemic.
The session started with a warm welcome by the Vice Principal, Dr. Renu Nayar, who spoke about the importance of such events. Ms. Hema began with a brief discussion of the pandemic and then went on to elucidate the various economic fallouts it has had on the global as well the Indian economy. She explained the linkage of India with other countries in terms of Foreign direct investment, trade, oil supply and military budget. Introduction of Blue Economy and vaccination drive in India engrossed the audience.
This was followed by an enriching rapid fire round of questions in which students readily participated by writing answers in the chat box.
Last but not the least, Ms. Anita Singhal, the Head of Economics Department, proposed the vote of thanks and expressed her gratitude on behalf of the entire school fraternity. The guest speaker left with her appreciation of the students’ participation. The event proved to be informative and fruitful for everyone.
