The members of the Social Service League of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram took part in a mattress donation drive organized by the school to help the needy in Govindpuri, New Delhi on  26th May 2023.

The students helped deliver more than a 100 mattresses to underprivileged people living in the slums of Govindpuri under the guidance of our Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, Mr. K.B.S. Rathi (Security Incharge/Head of Accounts) and the teacher In Charge of the Social Service League, Ms. Aastha Kochar.

The school and the League did not only successfully mount a campaign to give out mattresses, but also gave out comfort and happiness to scores of people, and successfully channeled the essence of Social Service.

OPEN HOUSE – CLASS IX (2023-24)

The Open House for the parents of Class IX was organised on 19th May 2023 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in order to facilitate a fruitful interaction between the parents and the subject teachers. The parents interacted with the subject teachers on a one-to-one basis regarding their ward’s academic performance. Parents were appreciative of the efforts of the teachers and the school authorities.

PE DepartmentThe students were made to do warming-up exercises and taught the nuances of playing various sports such as basketball, football, cricket, squash, chess, aerobics, athletics, yoga, etc. 
Western Vocal The Western Vocal workshop – LET IT SHINE is a workshop where students are taught to identify their passion, and skill and teach them ways to enhance it. In the workshop, a total of 67 students signed up for it out of which 29 were from Class 8 and 38 were from Class 9. Today in the workshop 48 of them were present and 19 were absent. 
The rules were set for the workshop with 2 golden rules as – PARTICIPATE AND HAVE FUN. The workshop began with a short introduction and an easy singing/vocal exercise to unite everyone. Today they learned a medley of 5 very apt songs and it was evident from their singing that everyone was having a great time. 
Discipline was well maintained. All their queries were addressed. Everyone is looking forward to the next session on Thursday.

The children of classes VIIIth and IXth came together for a music activity held on Tuesday, 16th May 2023from 9.30 AM to 11.30 AM in the school.
Western Instrumental
Altogether there were a total of 65 participants who came with enthusiasm. The session started off with PPT on some basic instrumentation and its role. Those students who came with their own instruments were called on stage and given their respective roles as part of a band. The other students had to take turns sharing instruments and playing.         The session was also a platform for enhancing the art and skills of a performer. As excited as they were, we could learn one complete song to play their respective instruments as well as to sing and perform as an artist. It was a meaningful and productive session as I could tell by their reactions and expression at the end. We are grateful to the Principal and the school for such a platform. 
Indian InstrumentalHappy to tell you that students are very interested in learning Indian instrumental. Almost 30 students took part in this workshop. We taught them a new orchestra composition which is based on teen taal. We used different instruments in this composition.I am sure that this workshop will be fruitful for kids. 
Folk DanceActivity Done – Gujarati Hudo Dance ( Introductory paragraph)
The students learnt the basic traditional steps of this dance form which was held on Tuesday, 16th May 2023 from 9:30 am to 11:25 am in the school.
The children were very enthusiastic while learning the dance form and showed a lot of eagerness to learn.A brief introduction to Gujarat’s dance form and culture was also given to the students. (Hudo is one of the well-known folk dances of Gujarat. It is the folk dance form of the Bharwad Tribe, the shepherd community of Gujarat. The idea of the dance originated from sheep fights. The movements of two sheep ramming their heads are duplicated in this dance form. The dancers clap their hands in a forceful and rhythmic manner. Both men and women participate in Hudo Dance. There is also a tradition of selecting their life partners at the end of the dance. In this dance both the men and women of the village participate.)
Indian Classical DanceToday the students learn the basic steps of Bharatnatyam and Kathak.
English TheatreThe session began with the teacher facilitator introducing herself. This was followed by the students introducing themselves theatrically where they mentioned their reasons for choosing the activity. Students were briefly introduced to the beginnings of various theatres – Greek, English and Indian. They were acquainted with the various aspects of theatre – writing, performance, intonation, expressions etc. For homework, they were asked to prepare an advertisement as an individual activity and bring a short script of their favourite scene from a play that they read recently and liked.

The students were divided into groups and asked to prepare a skirt/short play on the following themes:Class IX: Influence of advertisements on teenagers. Class VIII: Mystery and SuspenseThe students were asked to integrate music in their play. The students performed the tasks assigned very well
As a part of the Summer Musings – Summer Camp (2023-2024), English Theatre was conducted for the students of classes 8I-K and 9J-N from 11:25 AM – 1:40 PM. The students were introduced to the concept of theater after which some warm-up and ice-breaking activities were conducted. Thereafter, different elements of the theatre were introduced and the activity titled ‘Play it with Props’ was organized in the class. The students chose different props from their surroundings and enacted scenes incorporating the props by imagining them as something else. The enactments presented by the students were quite creative and engaging and enabled the students to enhance their imagination and visualization skills.
Hindi TheatreToday was the first class of Hindi theatre in  the summer musing. The class started with an introduction about students who like and dislike theatre. Followed by an audition of voice modulation and body language along with their expressions. Then there were 3 nukkad natak prepared by Mr Manish, Ms P china and Ms Kavita Kumari enacted by the students. After this, there was a faq round in which the students who disliked it at first told about their experience and even changed  their perspectives about Hindi theatre. Not every student as well as every teacher is looking forward to more fun and enthusiastic activities

 Summer Musings Class VI & VII Day 1- 17th May, 2023

PE DepartmentA Summer Camp was organized at DPS R.K.PURAM on 17 May 2023 in the Football Field and the Sports Complex area.  It involved many students who played multiple games and had a fruitful time.

The goal of this session was to help students perform on the stage and discover their level of skill set in music.  The session started with seven ‘Sudha Swar’ practices. Four ‘Komal Swar’ and a ‘Tibra Swar’ were introduced.  It was a mashup of a patriotic song. The time cycle of this song was eight beats. The students had a great time learning the musical practices.

It was an amazing day for students. It started with basic rhythmic knowledge. A new orchestra composition was introduced to the students which incorporated eight beats with few synchronized notes. The learning went well.

The students learnt the basic traditional steps of the dance form. The children were very enthusiastic while learning the dance form and showed a lot of eagerness to learn.
Folk Nati Dance form HimachalEver heard of Nati? This is the famous folk dance of the upper Himachal area.Nati is the term used for both songs and dance. According to local people, Nati generally involves stories which are narrated through songs. People dance in groups to the tunes of the various local instruments and dialects. It is a group dance by both male and female dancers  and Dhol, Nagara, Shehnai, Karnal and Narsinghe are the popular music instruments used in this dance form.

The students were taught the basic steps of popular classical dance forms of Kathak, Bharatanatyam and Odissi. Most of the  participants were very new to the classical dance forms however there was a lot of excitement and willingness to learn.
English Theatre”Theatre has the role in the education of helping children become like themselves instead of everyone else.” The workshop aimed at offering the child an engaging, fun and immersive theatre experience. It aimed at helping them become more confident on stage and as individual personalities. It was designed to encourage the use of imagination and maximize creative potential through the medium of drama, mime, etc. The workshop required no prior experience in performance/theatre. Children were able to engage in dialogue, communicate effectively using verbal and non-verbal cues, participate in debate and discussion, and develop superior soft skill abilities in a play-way method.Through this workshop, the participants became well-versed in the various components of theater:- Stage dynamics- Role Play or Acting Skill- Understanding of mind-body-voice- Posture training – Facial expressions/gesturesWith many reflective and performative exercises, the participants moved towards enhancing their theatrical skills by the end of this workshop.
Hindi TheatreThe session started with an introduction about theater. It was followed by the audition of voice modulation and their  body language along with their expressions. Three ‘nukkad nataks’ were prepared by the teacher and were enacted upon by the students. After this, there was an FAQ round in which the students who disliked it at first told about their experiences and even many of their perspectives about Hindi Theater changed. The students presented their creativity through the nukkad natak presentations. 
Art and Craft DAY 1 – PAPER MURAL ARTFORM
Considering the importance and beauty of Mural Art, the students were first briefed about the artform. They were then given square sheets cut out of newspapers and were taught to make paper murals by rolling them into thin cylindrical forms. With brimming enthusiasm, the students participated in the activity and made beautiful paper murals by painting them.

SUMMER BREAK WORKSHOP FOR MUSIC AND DANCE

Day 1

The school organised a three-day summer workshop for Music and Dance, for the students of classes VI-XII from May 29, 2023, to May 31, 2023. The aim is to coach and motivate everyone who has a knack for music and dance with appropriate skills. The workshop is to equip students in the area of Western Vocal, Western Instrumental, Indian Vocal, Indian Instrumental and Folk Dance. The workshop started on 29 May 2023 between 9 AM -11 Am

Western Vocal

The Workshop was held in the school Seminar Room. 14 students attended the workshop. It began with a brief introduction of the topics to be covered. The students were taught the basics of music such as Solfege, Intonation, Rhythm, Breathing Technique, Dynamics and Agility. Various innovative activities were conducted to make it easy for the students to understand the teaching and keep them engaged. The workshop ended with a couple of songs – Fight Song and Titanium. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Sothingam Shaiza and Ms. Kaveri Dhar helped in maintaining the discipline and smooth flow of the workshop.

Western Instrumental: Break out

The Workshop was held in the school AVH. 18 students attended the workshop. The students were made to understand and explore their respective instruments and study their features. It was conducted by Mr Leimi

Indian Instrumental: This Workshop was conducted by Mr Salim Kumar and Mr Kuldeep Mishra and was held in the Music room. 2 students attended the workshop and were taught about the Sargam, Elementary factors of rhythm, Finger movement on Tabla, and different time cycles of Taal. 

Folk Dance: The Workshop was held in the Music room and was conducted by Mr Ashok Singh Miral.13 students attended the workshop. In the first half an hour, the students were made to warm up, stretch and do basic exercises. They were then taught the basic postures of this dance style, including Chowk, Ada, Dharan, and Sadha chali.

Indian Vocal: The Workshop was conducted by Mr Suman Kalyan Sangiri and was held in the Music room. 2 students attended the workshop. The students were taught the basic knowledge of Sudh swar, Komal swar, and Tibra swar. They were also made to do different Alankar practices with Sudh swar, Komal swar, and Tibra swar. 

The students enjoyed the classes and had an enriching learning experience on the first day.

CAREER GUIDANCE SESSION FOR CLASS X BY JAMBOREE INSTITUTE

On May 23rd, 2023, Delhi Public School RK Puram organized a career guidance session for Class X students, facilitated by Jamboree Institute; it was conceptualized under the able guidance of the Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan and Headmistress of Classes IX and X, Ms Rashmi Malhotra. The event featured esteemed speakers, namely Ms Naima Gupta, Mr Vineet Gupta, and Ms Harmeet Kaur. Ms Naima, an alumnus of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram and a Yale graduate, shared her valuable insights. Mr Vineet, an engineering graduate from IIT Delhi and an expert in “Education Abroad,” also contributed to the session. The speakers provided students with valuable guidance on pursuing education abroad. They emphasized the importance of introspection in order to discern one’s true aspirations in life. Students received a comprehensive overview of international universities, including their admission procedures and prerequisites. The session also highlighted the concept of Liberal Arts education, showcasing the flexible academic environment offered by institutions such as Ashoka University. The event fostered active interaction between the speakers and students, encouraging the students to raise doubts and share personal experiences. Furthermore, the session dedicated time to familiarizing students with the SAT exam, including preparation strategies and examination tips. The speakers emphasized the significance of humility and responsible citizenship in one’s personal and academic journey. The career guidance session concluded with a vote of thanks by the XI standard students, acknowledging the valuable contributions of all involved parties.

 Guest Speaker Programme

A guest speaker programme was organised on the topic “CRACK CLAT AND LNAT“ on 18th May 2023 for the students of Class XII. The guest speaker, Mr Gaurav Bhatara,  has trained and mentored many students to join top NLUs in India and International Law Universities abroad. He has also been listed in the Forbes issue 2020-21 as the pride of India. Vice Principal, Mr Mukesh Kumar, felicitated the guest with a token of appreciation. Mr. Bhatara talked about the scope of law which runs across all streams and professions. He gave them several pointers on how to approach their CLAT and LNAT examinations in a more effective manner that would help them score well. He appraised them on the pros and cons of undergraduate education abroad and in India. He shared his valuable knowledge, experiences and insights which helped the students gain practical insights into the legal profession and broaden their understanding of education in the legal field. His professional yet personal approach kept the students engaged throughout the session. Mrs Richa Aggarwal, Class XII Representative, proposed the vote of thanks. The session was indeed informative, fruitful and enriching.

The Open House for the parents of Class X was organised on 20 May 2023 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in order to facilitate a fruitful interaction between the parents and the subject teachers. Parents were appreciative of the efforts of the teachers and the school authorities.

DIGEX 2023

Delhi Public School R.K. Puram’s photography and filmmaking society, DIGEX, is a vibrant community of talented photographers and filmmakers. They hosted the most anticipated annual event, Digex 2023, on 19 May 2023. This event served as a medium of self-expression for enthusiastic school students and provided them with a platform to showcase their talent in photography, filmmaking, ad-making, photo manipulation, and more. This year, the event witnessed the participation of numerous schools from various regions. It saw a healthy competition in each of the events

 

This year’s event consisted of six different categories: Pixelate Senior, Pixelate Junior, CreADive, PhoneScape, Hi-Res, and Camistic.

Pixelate Senior: This category of the event is the online photography contest for Classes XI and XII, which provides a platform for students to showcase their skills and creativity through the power of their lens. The theme was ‘Broaden your horizons, shift your perspective’. This competition was judged by award-winning filmmaker and versatile artist, Mr. Rahul Yadav, who, being an all-rounder, is an endless source of inspiration for all the aspiring photographers and filmmakers.


Pixelate Junior: Pixelate Junior is the online photography contest that encourages the budding photographers of Classes IX and X to give their best, be original, and learn more about photography.This event was judged by Mr. Dinesh Lal, the Chief Cameraperson and HOD of the Art Department at Aajtak, a renowned personality in the news industry. The topic for this category was ‘Gray-Scale Glamour’.

CreADive: CreADive is an on-the-spot online advertisement-making competition. Students created a captivating visual sequence of 30–40 seconds. Judged by the club’s alumni, Siya Chhabra and Kushagra Pandey, the participants had to create an advertisement on‘chalk’.

Camitistic: Camitistic is the “storyboard” event. This is an extremely interesting category where participants have to click 3–4 photographs in a specific sequence in order to depict a story. This year, the stories were on the topic ‘To blind to see’ and the event was judged by former members of the club, Prithvi Paul and Pulan.

Hi-RES- It is the only category of the event that was not held on the spot. It is the online short-film-making category where participants form a team of four students to create a cinematic masterpiece in 4-6 minutes. The films were judged by an alumni  of the club, Vivaann Pahwa and Sana Chawla and all entries were made on the topic ‘Out of the blue.’

PhoneScape:  It is an On-The-Spot and versatile phone photography contest for students of Classes XI and XII. What made this category unique was that all the details and the topic of the event were disclosed on the spot, and participants showcased their skills by using phones instead of conventional camera photography. The alumni of the club, Chhavi Chopra and Vansh Jain, were the judges for this event, and the topic disclosed was ‘In the motion of life find stillness.’

Concluding the Annual Photography and Filmmaking Festival was a captivating valedictory ceremony, attended by thearticipating schools.The proceedings commenced by welcoming the chief guests with flowers. Then with a captivating short film created by the members of the DIGEX club, paying tribute to the club’s illustrious history and accomplishments since 2009. The Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, addressed the participants and appreciated them for their hard work and effort and emphasized on the fact that everyone who participates is a winner and passion is the path to your dream. She also thanked the alumni of the school as they are the pillars of our school’s success, she then congratulated the participants and Ms Manika Khanna. A mesmerizing performance, symbolizing the journey of an aspiring photographer  by the Performing Arts Society was presented. Ms Manika Khanna, congratulated Digex and the Principal through her address and expressed her strong views on women empowerment, she congratulated the teacher incharge, Ms Sarika Kaushal and all the participants, telling everyone that the road to goals is not always easy. Taking the podium, Ms. Sarika Kaushal,  advisor and incharge of the DIGEX Club, addressed the audience, sharing insightful reflections on the importance of participation and the role of students in Digex. The award ceremony commenced with the felicitation of esteemed and inspiring alumni, evoking admiration and gratitude. This was followed by a ceremony to honor and bestow awards upon the participants.

Assembly XII-E & XII-F (18-05-2023)

On Thursday, the 18th of May 2023, the students of classes XII-E and XII-F organized an assembly on “Living Life Senzo Sordino”

“Living life senza sordino” is an Italian phrase that means living life without a mute. In music, a sordino is a device used to muffle or dampen the sound of an instrument, such as a piano. In life, living senza sordino can be seen as living without any inhibitions or reservations, fully embracing one’s emotions and experiences without holding back. Living life senza sordino encourages one to be bold, take risks, and fully immerse oneself in the beauty of life.                                    

The assembly began with a prayer titled “Teri Panaah Mein Hame Rakhna,” which was sung by Krishna Banka, Abhishek Mandal, Eshan Sharma, Dhiren Thakur, Arnav Gupta, Harshal Narsaria, Tanish Gupta, Ananya Das, Priti Shree, Vaibhav Sahni and Abhigyan Gupta. The prayer was followed by a classical dance performance by Tanisha Dutta Gupta, Sannidhi Aggarwal, Meha Jain, Prisha Singhal, Yashasvi, Kritika Verma, Sherin Jasoria, Yuvika Das, and Mana Sharma.                           

This was followed by the thought for the day by Garv Jhuremalani, Gaurav Mishra and Abhigyan Gupta. The audience were then made aware of the latest happenings in the world by  Suyash tripathi, Abhishek Mandal,  Aviral Dhingra, Harsh Singh, Ayaan Haq. Next, a skit was performed by Mahi Verma, Kabir Mongia, Soumya Mahandru, Devansh Taneja, Svetlana Neogi, Arav Arora, Yash Dhingra and Vaibhav Sahni. The skit was based on living life with no regrets and following one’s passion, it was an amalgamation of keyboard performance by Vaibhav Sahni, Contemporary Dance by Tanisha Dutta Gupta, Sannidhi Aggarwal, Meha Jain, Prisha Singhal, Riddhi Sharma, Yashasvi, Kritika Verma, Sherin Jasoria, an inspiring self composed poem by Harshit  Tankhaa western choir by Arnav Gupta, Abhishek Mandal, Dhiren Thakur, Suyesha Saha, Suyash Tripathi, Krishna Banka, Shaurya Saxena, Mahi Verma, Eshan Sharma,Mana Sharma, Yash Dhingra, Asmit Anand, Ikshwaku, Vaibhav Sahni, Arav Arora, and Ashish Arora. The skit ended with a speech by  Apoorva Khadge. The assembly ended on a happy note with an energetic  hip hop dance performance by Vinamra Lilaria, Ashmit Anand, Yuvika Das, Sherin Jasoria, Ikshwaku, Mridul Sharma, and Aviral Dhingra. The Board artwork, invitation cards, E-invite, folders, and digitla presentation  of the assembly were created by Kritika Verma, Meha Jain, Prisha Singhal, Aviskha, Sanskriti Gautam, Aanya Gupta, Ananya Das, Svetlana Neogi, Priti Shree, Medhashree Saxena, Harshit Tankha, Anushka Gupta, and Laksh Marwa.                

The comperes were Ainesh Gupta, Siddhartha Verma, Vibhum Aggarwal and Venya lal. 

Finally, the Audio-Visual Hall was filled with the melodious School Anthem followed by singing the National Anthem.

The assembly commenced with calling upon the Almighty through a melodious prayer “Jaise Suraj ki Garmi Se” sung by Aayushi Kumar, Aditya Acharya, Ananya Kukreja, Aishwarya Singh, Akshat Kumar, Mihika Singh, Parishka Gogia, Riddhima Tangri, Samar Shahid, Sumaiyah Anis, Vaibhavi Chaturvedi and Vedant Mehta. The graceful Vandana was presented by Pallav Prabha and Vijayalakshmi Singh and was followed by shloka recitation by Mihika Singh. The latest happenings around the world were presented by Aishwarya Singh, Daksh Vijay Sarkar, Krisha Gomatam, Manvi Karwa and Pallav Prabha following which, a skit which brought back childhood memories was put up by Adeeva, Aditya Acharya, Ananya Chauhan, Ashumaan Bathwal, Aryan Singh, Gauri Agrawal, Mihika Singh, Shivansh Banerjee, Sumaiyah Anis of XII C that reminded everyone that as long as your dreams appeal more to you than your fears, you will find the energy and courage to achieve your biggest goals.

The inspirational Western choir by  Aishwarya Singh, Amaira Kathuria, Ananya Chauhan, Anya Chaudhary, Paone Mark, Parishka Gogia, Pranay Bussi, Saanvi Khurana, Shaan, Sumaiyah Anis sang “Fight Song” facilitated by Vanlalchhuanawmi Hmar on the keyboard after which a captivating solo dance performance was given by Navya Jain. Thought- invoking speeches were given by Aryan Jain, Gunn Garg and self composed poems were recited by Kanak Devnani and Ananya Chauhan ;which highlighted the importance of dreams in making us who we are. “Kholo Kholo” was sung by the harmonious Hindi Choir which comprised of Aayushi Kumar, Aishwarya Singh, Ananya Chauhan, Ananya Kukreja, Gunn Garg, Kashika Nemani, Parishka Gogia, Riddhima Tangri, Saanvi Khurana, Sumaiyah Anis, Vaibhavi Chaturvedi and Vedant Mehta. The assembly concluded with a lively and energetic group dance by Aishwarya, Dani Doniya, Kashika Nemani, Navya Jain, Parishka Gogia, Shaan and Vanlalchhuanawmi Hmar.

The assembly imparted the message with utmost originality and skill and was a grand success.

The comperes were Ananya Kukreja, Gunn Garg, Palak Agarwal, Riddhika Joshi, Saanvi Khurana, Vedant Mehta and Yuvansh Vij and the beautiful board, invitations, banners and folders were made by the art team comprising of Adeeva, Aishwarya, Anya Chaudhary, Gunn Garg, Manvi Karwa, Palak Agarwal, Parishka Gogia, Sarah Kashyap and Suryakiran. The e-invite was made by Shreya Khanna. The digital presentation was made by Amaan Talikoti, Shivansh Banerjee and Suryakiran.
