Guest Speaker Programme Classes IX-XII

Delhi Public School, RK Puram organised a Virtual Guest Speaker Programme on the topic “Role of a Vigilant Student in Present Scenario” on May 18, 2021 for the students of class IX-XII.

The Guest speaker Dr. Vinay Bhatnagar has done his Masters in Political Science from Delhi University and his  Phd In DLit. He is a retired Director Lok Sabha Secretariat with an experience of 44 years of Research, Training and Public Relations in Parliament Secretariat and teaching at college level. He is presently an associate professor in the Department of Law in Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Management Sciences IP University. He is also an UNDP Certified International Consultant. 

The Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan and the Headmistress Ms. Rashmi Malhotra also graced the occasion with their presence.The Guest Speaker Programme was conducted as an interactive session by Alma Ali of XII-U. During the session the speaker spoke a great deal about how we are in a state of anxiety because of covid. He emphasised on qualities such as confidence, competence and faith in oneself. He said in order to be a vigilant student one must believe, have faith and encourage others to do the same. He also pointed out that the seniors(the ones in class XII ) can mentor the juniors(the ones in Classes IX to X) to be vigilant and become action takers. In the end Dr. Vinay quoted Steve Jobs by speaking about 6 healers of life- sunlight,rest, physical exercise, diet, self confidence and friends. He spoke about the importance of these healers.

This was followed by a Question and Answer session conducted by Alma Ali(XII-U) where the speaker patiently explained his answers by using anecdotes from his real life experiences.

His answers provided a sense of clarity to all the students who attended the Guest Speaker Programme.

The Programme was concluded by a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Rashmi Malhotra and an Address by Ms. Padma Srinivasan.The event was organised by Ms. Preeti Pratihari and Ms. Kaveri Dhar along with the technical support from Mr. Mukesh Kumar and his Support Team.

Guest Speaker Programme -Classes VI-VIII

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.”

 Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organised a virtual Guest Speaker Programme on the topic “Music Therapy” on  May 17, 2021 for the students of class VI- VIII.

The guest speaker, Ms. Sahiba Jain, is  an expressive arts therapist and counselling psychologist. She is the founder of and a therapist at Flying feathers(Healing and expressive art therapy). She is skilled in mindfulness meditation, expressive art therapy ( including music therapy, dance therapy, psychodrama etc), counselling and sound healing, gratitude therapy and chakra dance movements.

The Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan and Ms. Vinita Gupta also graced the occasion. The  Guest Speaker Programme was conducted as an interactive session by Sreyansh Jha (XII A) . The session began with Ms.Jain introducing the topic” music therapy”, which is the use of music to address the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of a group or individual. She then proceeded to involve the students in interactive activities such as listening to music of different genres and noticing how it would impact the state of mind of the students and using expressive body movements as a way of expression. The students actively participated and enjoyed the session thoroughly. They learnt valuable skills such as using music to focus and feel better. 

This was followed by a question and answer session where the speaker successfully answered a wide range of questions posed by the students. The session was brought to a close with vote of thanks by Shreyansh Jha (XII A).The event was organized by Ms. Kaveri Dhar and Ms. Preeti Pratihari with technical support from Mr. Mukesh Kumar and his support team.

Virtual Orientation Programme for the Parents of Classes VI – VIII

A Virtual Orientation Programme was organized for the parents of the students of classes VI, VII and VIII on 15, 16 and 17 April 2021 respectively. The purpose of the Orientation Programme was to introduce the parents to the respective class teachers and subject teachers. The session began with a short welcome video showcasing the artistic talent of our students. 

Thereafter, the class teachers welcomed the parents. They briefed the parents about the code of conduct to be followed by students while attending virtual classes and the general pattern of assessment which will be followed. Thereafter,the Class teachers called upon the subject teachers to address the parents. The Subject teachers spoke about their respective subjects and their expectations from the students. All teachers assured the parents of providing all possible support to the students during these difficult times. 

The Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan addressed the parents and emphasized on the need of holding each other’s hands in these unprecedented times to help the students benefit from these virtual classes. The Vice Principal , Ms Renu Nayar reiterated the importance of following the rules and maintaining the students’ attendance for virtual classes.

GUEST SPEAKER PROGRAM – PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT

“As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.”The Psychology Department of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized an online guest lecture program for the psychology students of class XII on 12 May 2021 on the topic “Carl Jung “Collective Unconscious”, curated by Dr. Inderpreet Sandhu. The session started with a warm welcome given by Ms. Kaveri Dhar to the speaker. Dr. Sandhu is a professor of psychology in Punjabi University Patiala. She gave a brief introduction of Carl Jung’s childhood years and the impact it had on his future research. Ms. Sandhu kept the spirit of Psychology alive by conducting intense discussions on topics such as collective unconscious, persona, shadow, anima, animus etc. The students enthusiastically participated in the session and were happy to gain valuable insights into the human psyche. Ms. Sandhu also described the influence of our ancestors on our mental processes and behaviours. The session concluded with the vote of thanks presented by Ms. Preeti Pratihari. It turned out to be an enriching and enlightening experience for all.

‘Sare Jahan Se Acha Hindustan Hamara’: The Diverse Cultures of Indian States

The History Society of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized a cultural event to celebrate the diversity of India, where each participant represented a state of the country through different creative forms of expression. Participants were allowed to wear costumes and use props to enhance their performance. A special emphasis was placed on the significance of their attire. A beautiful display of a variety of cultures were put up by the participants. It perfectly captured the essence of their chosen states while captivating the audience. Some of the creative expressions included song, speech, poem and virtual travelogue among others. Each performer outdid themselves, their efforts were immensely applauded by the Principal herself. It also enriched the audience’s knowledge of our vast and fascinating culture. 

Guest Speaker Programme for Classes IX-XII

Delhi Public School RK Puram organised a virtual Guest Speaker Programme (GSP) on the topic “Start-ups and Entrepreneurship” on May 10, 2021 for the students of Class IX-XII. 

The guest speaker, Mr. Vikas Bagaria, founder of PeeSafe is a serial entrepreneur and a seasoned businessman with more than 24 years of experience in setting up and successfully running businesses from scratch.Mr Bagaria and his wife, Srijana, founded PeeSafe  – world’s fastest growing personal hygiene brand in 2013. When Mrs Bagaria fell sick on one of the Road Trip and was diagnosed with Urinary Tract Infection, they came up with the idea of a Toilet Seat Sanitizer Spray.

In January 2020, PeeSafe was awarded as The Best SMB Brand of the Year by Amazon India in the presence of Jeff Bezos. Besides running PeeSafe full time, Mr Bagaria helps Indian Defence, Aerospace, Power Transformer and Energy companies in Conditional based monitoring systems from his company SRV Damage Prevention. The unfortunate incident of Nirbhaya rape case inspired him to start India’s 1st online portal on Safety products SafetyKart.com.Mr Bagaria has invested in startups like ASADELTECH®️, GrowTech Innovations. WittyFeed, Innov8, Shaadi Saga, Cutloot, GlamStudio, TripLived, Deyor Camps among 20 others. 

The Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, the Vice Principal Dr. Renu Nayar and the HeadMistress Mrs. Rashmi Malhotra also graced the occasion. While addressing the audience, the vice principal spoke about the growing  interest of the youth in start-ups and entrepreneurship. She also highlighted how important it was for the students to learn about entrepreneurship in school itself so that they can invest time and effort into other activities accordingly while planning for such ventures. 

The Guest Speaker Programme was conducted as an interactive session by Saanvie Verma (XII-X) and Arshiya (XII-E). During the session, the speaker spoke a great deal about the importance and growing interest in start-ups and entrepreneurship while discussing real life examples. He emphasised on the skills required to start new business ventures and discussed his own story citing his mistakes which the students can avoid. 

This was followed by a Question & Answer  session conducted by Anhad Sood (XII-S), Maulik Gupta (XII-H), Shreya Singhal (X-A), Lavanya Negi (XII-C), Saanvi Pandey (X-G), Amaan Ahmed (X-O) and Madhav Gupta (X-B) where the speaker patiently answered a wide range of questions posed by the students. His answers provided a great deal of insight into the topic punctuated with practical advice for students, parents and teachers.

The Guest Speaker Programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Rashmi Malhotra.

The event was organised by Ms. Mandeep Tewanj, Ms. Archna Deepak and Ms. Shelly Malhotra with technical support from Mr Mukesh Kumar and his team.

‘Reflections’- E-Poster Making Competition

The Economics Club of DPS R.K Puram organised an E-Poster making competition, ‘Reflections’ , for the students of class XII on 11th May. As Covid-19 Pandemic has proved to be a challenging time for our nation, this competition aimed to give the students an opportunity to delve deeper into its impact and ‘reflect’ on their opinions regarding the same. The event was conducted by 5 students: S P Thanusree 12U, Nimisha Dhawan 12U, Shashank Sinha 12U, Neasha Mittal 12L and Shuchita Singh 12K along with their teacher-in-charge Ms Vijayalakshmi. 

The two topics for designing the digital poster were: Health: Rich-poor Divide and Development comes at a cost. All the posters were displayed in the main event and each participant was asked to talk about the message they wished to convey through their posters. The depth of understanding portrayed by the students was  remarkable. The event included a mini-interactive session wherein students were presented with interesting Economics facts. It was a great learning experience for everyone who participated and attended the event.

Guest Speaker Programme 2021- Political Science and Legal Studies

The political science and legal studies department of DPS, R.K. Puram organised a guest speaker programme on 11 May 2021 by Advocate Ruchi Agnihotri on the topic “Fundamental rights in practice”. 

It was a very informative and interactive session which was attended by the Political Science students of Class XII . The session which lasted for about one hour was attended by our esteemed Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, Vice- Principal,Dr. Renu Nayyar, Head of Departments of Political Science and Legal Studies, Economics, History and Geography, Ms. Sabreena Bansal and other teachers from the Social Science department.

The session highlighted the  different fundamental rights and their practical uses. She emphasized upon the importance of these rights in our daily lives. She shared her views on the ongoing pandemic and its relation with Article 19 and Article 21 of our Constitution. 

In the end she answered the queries of the audience followed by an address by the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan. The vote of thanks was proposed by the head  of Political Science and Legal Studies Department, Ms. Vandana Chandhoke.It was a really fruitful session both for the teachers and students.
