Career Counselling Session for Parents of Class X students

With a plethora of career options available in contemporary times, the role of a career counseling session becomes indispensable. With this in view, a Virtual Career Counselling session was organized by D.P.S R.K.Puram for parents of Class X students on 29 May 2021 to explore the various career options for students in all the three streams- Science, Commerce and Humanities. 

The school counsellor, Ms Kanika Madan welcomed the guest speaker and the parents to the online session.The speaker for the session was Dr. P. K. Sharma, Assistant Director at Aakash Institute. He has an extensive experience of over two decades in counselling students on the various educational and career options in Engineering college and Aakash institute.

He addressed the current situation of global pandemic Covid-19 and the challenges it poses to the learners. He explained very diligently the importance of Class X in career planning. The entire session was not only informative but also opened up various avenues for the students to explore in order to plan their career.
The session concluded with an interactive Question & Answer round which was moderated by Ms. Divya Bablani and witnessed a lot of enthusiastic participation from the parents. The vote of thanks was proposed by the Class representative.

Career Guidance And Planning Session-Class X

Career decisions play an important role in shaping the future growth and development of students. Keeping this in mind, a virtual career counselling session was organised by D.P.S R. K. Puram for students of Class X on 8th June 2021. The purpose of this session was to guide the students about how to plan a systematic study schedule for Class X and maximise their potential in current times. 

The session began with a welcome address by the school counselor, Ms Kanika Madan. The session was conducted by Mr Binit Kumar Binod, a Management Graduate from K.J.Somaiya Institute of Management studies and Research, Mumbai and has done his Graduation in Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi. He has worked with reputed companies like Tata Consultancy services and Coca Cola in his formative years of his professional career. He strongly believes in “Siddhirbhavati Karmaja” means…”Success only comes through effort”.

He highlighted the ideal ways of choosing career options and encouraged students to pursue their interests and to work sincerely to achieve their goals. Discussing the nature of the streams available- Science, Commerce and Humanities, he emphasized on the skills required for pursuing them. He further shaped the session into talking about the key points of the skills required and curriculum of the three streams. 

Diverse Career Options in Science, Commerce and Humanities fields such as Law, Banking, Actuarial Science, Biotechnology, Travel and Tourism, Management, Chartered Accountancy were also discussed along with the subjects that would help in establishing in these areas. To surmise, the decision ingredients were highlighted. The session concluded with an interactive question & answer round which was moderated by Ms. Divya Bablani. The vote of thanks was proposed by the Class representative.

Interactive Session-Class X

“Education in Times of COVID-19 Pandemic- Academic stress and dealing with it effectively” 

The school in association with South District Legal Services Authority (DLSA South) organised an  interactive session on the topic “Education in Times of COVID-19 Pandemic- Academic stress and dealing with it effectively with students of Class- X, XI & XII of DPS, R.K. Puram, New Delhi. The Resource person for this session was Dr. Ananya Mahapatra. She completed her post-graduation in Psychiatry from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. Thereafter she worked as Assistant Professor,in the Center of Excellence in Mental Health, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Currently she is Specialist Consultant and Head of Department, Psychiatry in ESIC Hospital, Sector-15, Rohini. 

Her primary areas of interest are depression, anxiety and social psychiatry. She has special interest in child & adolescent mental health. She has conducted research and published specifically on stigma, caregiver needs and psychosocial issues related to neurodevelopmental disorders in children. She has also served as a member of Multispeciality Autism Disability Certification board in Dr. RML Hospital Instituted recently under the RPwD Act.

During the session, the speaker discussed ways of coping with stress due to academics. She also explained to students about types of stress, understanding the origin and how to deal effectively with it. She tried to normalize the taboo around it.This was followed by a Question & Answer  session conducted by Ms. Divya Bablani, School Counsellor. The speaker patiently answered a wide range of questions posed by the students, providing them a great deal of support punctuated with practical advice on coping with grief and stress for students, parents and teachers.

Aptitude Test-Class X

Aptitude is an inborn potential to do certain kinds of work, acquire certain kinds of skills or subjects of study. Aptitude Tests are used to assess whether an individual has the level of competency necessary for success in a particular field. A standardized test objectively measures what a person is able to do at the time he is being assessed and under the conditions of assessment. These tests typically measure abilities like Numerical Ability, Clerical Ability, Mechanical Reasoning, Closure Ability, Verbal Ability, Reasoning Ability, Spatial Ability and Psycho-motor Ability. 

Aptitude assessment helps students in making an informed choice of subjects and in providing career guidanceOn May 8, 2021, the school conducted an Aptitude Test with Class X students.  542 students appeared in the test. The individual results of the students have been sent to the parents. These results will help students in making an informed choice of subjects, in providing career guidance and improving their academic performance.The results are indicators of the student’s present abilities and should be considered only for the purpose of guidance.

Topic- It is not wanting to win that makes you a winner; It is refusing to Fail

To give up midway is easy but to continue despite challenges is difficult.It’s not your want but your action that makes a difference and once you learn not to give up , it becomes a habit.On the auspicious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti class 12th Q enlightened everyone with some of the teachings of Lord Hanuman.

The class presentation commenced by invoking the name of the god through meaningful verse from Hanuman Chalisa recited by Saanvi Guliani .She then introduced the theme and explained it’s significance followed by which was a  correlation was drawn between the topic and lord Hanuman’s teachings by Udaay Garg and Adwiti Singhal .Lines from Famous poem signifying importance of courage,strong will and determination were recited by Shrishti Aggarwala,Shreya Arora ,Vanya Gupta  and Koel Jain. Anshika Anand then enlightened all with her speech on the World Day for Safety and Health at Work which is celebrated on 28th April every year. 

Uddaay Garg played melodious instrumental pieces which soothed the senses of all listeners .The presentation concluded with a vote of thanks by Meehika Garodia.The slides and invitations were prepared by Kavya Gupta and the write-up was written by Akansha Jain. Background score was played by Udday Garg and Daivik Gupta.

Topic-  The divine is not something high above us, It is in heaven, it is in earth, it is inside us.

Ram Navami, is one of the biggest and most auspicious Hindu festivals in India, it is celebrated on the last day of Chaitra Navaratri. This year on 21 April. This festival celebrates the birth of Lord Rama. On this occasion of Rama Navami  Let Divine Sri Rama be your ideal.  May you live immersed in the ecstasy of divine love! The divine is not something high above us, It is in heaven, it is in earth, it is inside us. Which means that divinity, the quality of being divine is everywhere inside every one of us. Divinity is there in every being including humans. The presentation by the class began with a Beautiful hymn presented by Nehaara Kaushik and also with a prayer sung by Sefat Ahluwalia that began everyone’s day on a devotional note. Vanya pal presented an inspirational thought for the day  followed by a detailed explanation of what it meant. This was followed by a speech by Hashmeet Kaur and a melodious self-composed poem by Jaysal Manchanda. The presentation ended with a beautiful song sung by Vaani Abott. The compere, Aadibhav Prasad, presented a vote of thanks. The slides were compiled and designed by Shivansh Gupta and the invitation card was designed by Kritika.

Topic- Earth Day

On the occasion of the Earth Day students of class 9F prepared a presentation that raised awareness and appreciation about the earth’s natural environment. They drew the attention of the students to the fact that their present and future depended on the security and sanctity of the Earth. It was therefore time for everybody to think of its health and their collective survival. 

The presentation was led through by Aditi Sharma and Laksh T M Jaswani followed by a beautiful prayer by Shery Chauhan. Then Priyanka Lata recited a shloka. Pranav Aggarwal and Deepti Prasad shared thoughts for the day. Then Raunak Tewathia, Shaurya Gautam and Laksh T M Jaswani presented speeches on ‘Earth day’ and finally our class presentation ended with a beautiful self composed poem recited by Shaurya Gautam.

Topic- DON’T WISH FOR IT, WORK FOR IT

The class highlighted the importance of hard work which is the gateway to success. It has no parallel in human life.  The bottom line is that nothing worth achieving comes without hard work. Hard work always pays and never goes unrewarded or in vain.The presentation started with chanting by Nikita Mann, Radhika Goyal and Tanisha. The two comperes  were Disha Khanna and Vanya Sharma.The thoughts for the day were reiterated by Zoya and Ganika Arora. The song was presented by Radhika Goyal and Tanisha, followed by Earth Day Speech by Shreyansh Jha and Quilin Talukdar. Then there was a choral self-composed poem recital by Dia Dutt, Akshaya Muralidharan, Arjun Gogia, Aadrita Goswamy, Arni Monga,Dhun Paliwal, Prerna Aggarwal,Shreya Mann, Sarita Jyoti Singh.The overall compilation was done by Apoorva Sehgal and slides and E-card was made by Tejaswi Sharma.
