Fit India School Week Celebration DPS R K Puram – “New India – Fit India”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched ‘Fit India Movement’ on 29th August 2019, with an aim to encourage people to instill physical activity and sports in their everyday routine. 

Delhi Public School, R K Puram, New Delhi celebrated fitness week in the school, in the month of December from 17th December 2020 till 23rd December 2020.

Sports and games are a means of mental and physical growth. Sports help us to identify our inborn talent and capabilities and channelize them to achieve our target.

Rendezvous with Mr. Siddhant Bhansali

The Economics, Business Studies and Accountancy Departments along with the Enship Club of Delhi Public School RK Puram organised a series of virtual webinars on the topic ‘My Entrepreneurial Experience’ in the month of December and January.

The sixth webinar in the series was organised on January 17, 2021 for the students of Class IX and XI. The guest speaker, Mr. Siddhant Bhansali is an  active mentor and advisor to several startups in India. He has been working with technology companies for about 17 years and has mentored over 300 startups across multiple domains.

The webinar was attended by the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan and Headmistress, Ms Rashmi Malhotra, HODs of the Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics Department along with several teachers of the said departments. While addressing the gathering, the Headmistress Ms Rashmi Malhotra spoke of the importance of such webinars to inspire students and instill a love for learning about the entrepreneurial world for their futures. 

The compères for the event were Aarushi Gupta (11M) and Mridul Malani (11M). The webinar was conducted in the format of a lecture by Mr. Siddhant Bhansali. During the lecture, he covered a variety of topics ranging from the importance of higher education in an entrepreneurs life to the value of a well structured plan for any new ventures. He offered very pertinent and valuable insight into the world of entrepreneurship, explaining technical terms and covering all broad aspects of starting a venture in a manner that the students could relate to and understand easily. 

This was followed by a Question & Answer  session conducted by Aditya Mathur (11M) where Mr Bhansali answered questions asked by the students  of Classes  IX and XI. Answering one of the questions, Mr. Bhansali advised all budding entrepreneurs that an entrepreneur’s job is not to create need for his services , rather to provide services according to the consumers’ needs.

This was followed by encouraging words from the  Principal Ms. Padma Srinivasan. She shared her views on the vitality of such talks and invited Mr Bhansali to return for a follow up talk with the students. Ms. Anita Singhal, HOD Economics department proposed the vote of thanks. 

The technical support for the event was provided by Mr Mukesh Kumar and his team and the event was organised by Ms Shelly Malhotra.

Scholar Badge Ceremony 2020- Class XI (A-J)

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted the annual Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class XI on 15 January 2021, via the virtual platform of Zoom. The theme for the event this year was “A diamond earns its sparkle from the pressure it endures”. The esteemed Chief Guest for the day was Dr. Joseph Emmanuel, Director of the Central Board of Secondary Education, India.

Dr Amitabha Bagchi, Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engg., Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, kindly consented to be the Guest of Honour. 

The event commenced with the symbolic lighting of the lamp, followed by an orchestral performance by the talented instrumentalists of the Indian Music Society.  

A short film highlighting the wide-ranging achievements of the students, undeterred by the unique challenges of this neoteric academic session, was presented. 

In her welcoming address, the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, congratulated the awardees on their accomplishments in a wide range of school experiences which encompass both academic and extracurricular activities. She shed light on the numerous opportunities provided to the students at DPS R.K. Puram, which facilitates them in becoming the best version of themselves. Drawing analogies between diamond’s way of earning sparkle from the pressure it endures, she emphasized on the importance of tough times and resilience in a man’s path to success. In her opinion, the way of dealing with adversities is to work in such a way that it makes us stand out from the crowd. She concluded her speech by congratulating the students and thanking their supportive parents and the hardworking teachers.

The Western Music Society performed a mellifluous and upbeat song, “Victorious”, which showcased the relentless determination and tenacity of the students to strive for success and victory even during these strenuous times. 

The Chief Guest, Dr. Joseph Emmanuel, expressed his happiness and gratitude on being a part of the celebration of the numerous achievements of DPS R.K. Puram. He congratulated the leadership, students, faculty and parents. He recognized the stature maintained by the school in both academic and co-scholastic areas during its journey through the years, and emphasised on  the fact that excellence could only be achieved through hard work and perseverance. 

Dr. Emmanuel also drew attention to the necessity of developing good values and virtues in students. Speaking of the new National Education Policy which envisages the development of all rounder citizens, he commended DPS R.K. Puram for already having implemented it, setting an example for all other institutions in the country. He touched upon the sustainable development goals of the United Nations to illustrate how working together in unity can truly transform a nation, and spoke briefly of India’s biggest asset; its youth. He concluded his address by expressing his hope that R.K. Puram’s tradition of hard work, building good character and attaining excellence continues. He congratulated all the students and the entire DPS family for upholding and maintaining its position as the number one school of the country.

The Guest of Honour, Dr. Amitabha Bagchi, an alumnus of 1992 batch, expressed his gratitude to the Principal for giving him the opportunity of being a part of the ceremony and congratulated all the award winners. He then spoke about DPS R.K. Puram’s role in shaping his life and teaching him the importance of time. He specifically pointed out two things he felt everyone should adopt in their lives. Firstly, he stated that we ourselves are responsible for our own happiness and secondly, we must hear out people who don’t share our opinions and see them for who they are. According to him, in that process, we can create a meaningful life for ourselves. He concluded by encouraging students to find a true purpose in life.

The award ceremony commenced with the felicitation of the Blue tie awardees by Ms. Shalini Harisukh, followed by the second Blue Badge and first Blue Badge winners. Ms. S. K. Nagalakshmi felicitated the Blue Blazer, second Green Badge and first Green Badge awardees. 

The vote of thanks was delivered by the Vice Principal, Dr. Renu Nayyar, who addressed the gathering and thanked the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour for gracing the ceremony with their presence and for enlightening the students by sharing their words of wisdom. She praised the students for their achievements and consistent efforts and thanked the parents for their continued support. She also thanked the staff and students for making this event a success. 

The event concluded with the national anthem and a message on Covid-19.

Interactive Session on GENDER SENSITIVITY for DPS RK Puram, Vasant Vihar and East of Kailash Staff

A Virtual Guest Speaker programme on ‘Gender Sensitivity’  was conducted for the teaching as well as non-teaching staff members of Delhi Public school, R.K. Puram, Vasant Vihar and East of Kailash on December 12, 2020, at 10.30 am with the support and guidance from the Principal Ms Padma Srinivasan. 149 teaching and non-teaching staff members actively participated. A pre-webinar questionnaire was also filled up by the participating members.

The Principal Ms. Padma Srinivasan extended a warm welcome to the guest speaker and all the staff members. Ms. Attrey Mukherjee, with 16 years of experience of working as a corporate lawyer addressed the gathering. Through her PowerPoint presentation, she gave an insight into creating an equal and gender-neutral society. She discussed various laws and policies and statistics, related to gender discrimination and inequality. She further emphasized on women empowerment and various challenges faced in the present scenario.  The talk was followed by an interactive question-answer session.

Overall the webinar proved to be a very enriching and learning experience.In the end Ms. Renu Nayar, Vice Principal thanked the Guest Speaker for sparing her valuable time to create gender sensitivity and make them more aware of the issues related to gender inequalities. The webinar was organised by Ms. Niva Chhonkar, Ms Vinita Gupta, Ms. Kaveri Dhar and Ms. Preeti Pratihari.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS 2020

To keep the spirit of Christmas alive during these Covid times Classes VI to VIII under the guidance of Ms. Niva Chhonkar (Headmistress VI-VIII) celebrated Christmas with great enthusiasm and optimism.

CHRISTMAS CORNER DECORATION COMPETITION

Christmas is one of the most popular festivals, which is widely celebrated by people from different communities across the globe. As a part of the celebrations various intersection competitions were organised by the Environment Club of DPS RK Puram for the students of classes VI-VIII.

The students were asked to prepare a Christmas Corner in their house by using the waste materials and also creating decorations associated with Christmas using the various craft items.

The competition was judged by Ms. Binu Chanan and Ms. Neelam Ajwani. The criteria for judgement was actual waste material used, innovation and creativity, usability/ practicality of the object made. The students were very enthusiastic in displaying their talent and creativity.

Live streaming of addressing of Hon’ble Dy. Chief Minister

The Hon’ble Dy. Chief Minister, GNCT of Delhi will address on launching of Delhi Education Conference – 2021 on 11th January, 2021 and closing ceremony on 17th January, 2021 (2:00 PM onwards) at SKV No.1 (Veer Savarkar), Kalkaji (ID-1925029).

Live streaming of the programme will be broadcasted in all Government Schools, Govt. Aided Schools 86 Public Schools through website of Directorate of Education i.e. www.edudel.nic.in
