GUEST SPEAKER PROGRAMME WITH DR. RANDEEP GULERIA – ON PREPARING CHILDREN FOR THE THIRD WAVE OF THE PANDEMIC

Joseph Campbell once said, “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” In our opinion, no one embodies this more than our esteemed and courageous medical staff who have risked their lives to battle this pandemic head on.

Over the last two years, we have experienced unforeseen circumstances- from the very beginning of the global pandemic, to its recent resurgence in the country. But, as concerning as the second wave was, the third wave is anticipated to pose an even greater challenge. The talk about the third wave of Covid 19 has led to a revival of the worries and questions that plagued us all at the start of the pandemic.

To assuage all queries and curiosities, Delhi Public School R.K. Puram invited Dr. Randeep Guleria, director of AIIMS, New Delhi as a Guest Speaker, on 31st May,2021, to talk about “Preparing children for the third wave of the Pandemic”.The programme was attended by  the faculty of DPS RKPuram, East of kailash,Vasant Vihar and parents of classes VI to XII.

Dr. Guleria addressed some common concerns that have been circulating around including the idea that children would be the most affected by this wave, which, he said, is unlikely. He also stressed on the importance of maintaining covid-appropriate behaviour not only  when the disease peaks, but all the times.

A question and answer session followed. From information regarding vaccinations to the prevention of  fungal infections,Dr. Guleria replied to all our questions in a precise and easy to understand manner. He provided a great number of insights regarding various facets of the pandemic like talking about why pandemics occur in waves, how we can minimise the spread of the disease, and how we can do our part in ensuring the safety of ourselves and others.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by the Headmistress, Ms.Rashmi Malhotra.
