DPS RK Puram – Science Excursion 2025

Our Class IX students embarked on a memorable and educational science trip to Sriharikota from July 29 to July 31, 2025, witnessing history in the making at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre and the incredible launch of the world’s most expensive civilian Earth imaging satellite, NISAR. 

Trip Highlights

On the first day, the group (consisting of 96 students, 10 teachers, and one nurse) led by Ms Rashmi Malhotra (Headmistress of classes IX-X) assembled at DPS RK Puram and travelled from Delhi to Chennai. Upon arrival in Chennai, the students settled into their hotel and enjoyed a welcome dinner. The evening provided a chance for the group to relax and discuss the days ahead, filled with excitement and curiosity about their journey into the world of space science.

The second day began with breakfast at the hotel, followed by an early lunch. Later, the group proceeded to the renowned Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, located about 100 kilometres from Chennai. Here, the students had a unique opportunity to learn about India’s inspiring journey in space exploration. The atmosphere was electric, as anticipation built up for the historic launch of the NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite. One of our students, Vihaan Saha (9P), gave a small presentation on the relevance of this launch in front of the entire crowd present there. Their visit culminated with the successful lift-off of the NISAR. 

The third and final day began with an early morning visit to the scenic Marina Beach, offering students a refreshing start. Later, having breakfast at the hotel, the students checked out of their hotel in Chennai and set out to explore Mahabalipuram, a town celebrated for its rich cultural heritage and monuments. After visiting prominent sites such as the Shore Temple and Five Rathas, the students returned to the airport for their journey to Delhi. 

Despite the long travel hours, spirits remained high, and students reflected on the unique experiences shared with peers and teachers. The trip concluded with everyone safely transferred back to the school, where parents received their children, brimming with stories of an unforgettable scientific adventure.

This excursion provided invaluable exposure to India’s achievements in space technology and inspired many students to dream boldly about future careers in science and engineering.

On the morning of August 4th, 2025, Delhi Public School, RK Puram had the honour of welcoming Dr. Kiran Bedi: India’s first woman to join the officer ranks of the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1972 and the 24th Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry—as the distinguished Guest of Honour for an insightful and inspiring session with the students.

The Principal, Mr. Anil Kumar, extended a warm welcome to Dr. Bedi, accompanied by a standing ovation, praising her illustrious career and exemplary service to the nation. He spoke of her as a role model whose life exemplifies courage, reform and integrity, highlighting her unique approach of reforming, rather than merely punishing offenders.

The programme commenced with a soulful rendition of Ganesh Vandana by the school choir, invoking Lord Ganesha’s blessings for wisdom and clarity. The devotional aura was followed by a mesmerising classical dance performance that enchanted the audience with its expressive storytelling and rhythmic grace, celebrating India’s rich cultural heritage.

Dr. Bedi then took the stage and delivered a powerful talk on the importance of understanding our rights and responsibilities. She shared her recent experience at a shloka recitation competition and emphasised that Sanskrit, often overlooked, is a profound and inclusive cultural legacy that transcends religious divisions. Touching upon various aspects of her life from her childhood and tennis career to her service in the police, Dr. Bedi also spoke about effective learning practices and the relevance of a strong educational foundation.

An engaging, interactive Q&A session followed, during which she addressed students’ questions with candour and depth. When asked about her motivation to become India’s first female IPS officer, she recalled her strong sense of justice and deep-rooted desire to serve the nation. Even in her early years, she displayed a determined spirit and a drive to build her own identity. Dr. Bedi stressed the importance of simplicity, sharing how she leads a minimalist life and values purpose over possessions. She credited her parents for being her greatest source of inspiration and guiding force throughout her journey.

She also spoke about her commitment to community service, sharing how her philanthropic spirit led to the creation of her first NGO. Her foundations have been instrumental in educating and empowering the underprivileged. She urged the students to stay informed, act responsibly, and contribute meaningfully to society. One of the many impactful stories she shared was about her bold decision to ban smoking entirely in Tihar Jail, demonstrating her dedication to reform and rehabilitation.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the Headmistress, Ms. Rashmi Malhotra, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Kiran Bedi for her invaluable insight and inspiring presence. She also acknowledged the Principal, Mr Anil Kumar;  the Vice Principals, Mr. Naresh Miglani, Mr. Anil Kathuria, and Mr. Mukesh Kumar; the headmistresses, Dr Anubha Gopal and Ms Vinita Gupta and the entire faculty for their unwavering support and effort in making the event a grand success.

The programme came to a close with the National Anthem, filling the air with patriotic pride and marking the end of a truly memorable morning.

On 6 August 2025, the Cyber Security Club conducted an Essay Writing Activity on the topic “The Importance of Cybersecurity in Daily Life” as part of its annual activity schedule. The event was organized for students of Classes VI to XII with the aim of raising awareness about how cybersecurity impacts their daily activities.

The initiative sought to help students understand the importance of safeguarding personal data, recognizing online threats, and adopting safe practices while using digital devices and the internet. Participants were encouraged to write on topics such as secure passwords, responsible social media use, online privacy, and the dangers of cybercrimes.

The activity saw enthusiastic participation from students across all grades. They showcased their awareness, creativity, and writing skills through well-structured essays that reflected their understanding and concern for online safety. The judgement was carried out by the club incharge, Ms. Sarika Kaushal along with the senior club members Atharwa and Arahant, who evaluated the entries based on relevance, originality, and clarity of expression.

To acknowledge and appreciate their efforts, all participants were awarded e‑certificates. Photographs of the event were taken to capture the students’ engagement and enthusiasm throughout the session. The activity not only enhanced their writing skills but also deepened their understanding of the importance of cybersecurity in today’s technology-driven world.

The initiative was highly appreciated and acknowledged by the Principal, Mr. Anil Kumar, for its relevance and impact in sensitizing students towards responsible digital practices.
