‘BUILDING BETTER BITES’WITH’लेबल पढ़ेगा इंडिया’ IN EAT RIGHT SCHOOL BOOTCAMP

AN EAT RIGHT INDIA, FSSAI & MISSION HEALTH, DPS RK PURAM COLLABORATION

Delhi Public School RK Puram proudly hosted an enriching awareness session under the Mission Health initiative in collaboration with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on 15 May, 2026 in the Audio Visual Hall.

Inspired by the age-old thought ‘”उत्तम सुख निरोगी काया’, the programme aimed to spread awareness about healthy eating habits, informed food choices and mindful lifestyle practices among students and teachers. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students of Grades VI and VII, whose curiosity, energy and active involvement transformed the programme into a vibrant celebration of health, awareness and conscious living.

The beautifully decorated venue, adorned with vibrant banners, posters, creative displays and nutrition-themed visuals, created a spirited and lively atmosphere for the event. The ambience radiated positivity and perfectly reflected the spirit of the campaign, setting the tone for the enlightening sessions that followed.

The Programme was held in 2 sessions. The  First session commenced with an engaging and interactive discussion with the students about their breakfast habits and food choices by Mr Sahil Khan. The enthusiastic participation by the audience reflected a genuine curiosity towards understanding healthy eating practices and balanced nutrition. An exciting activity based on nutrition and healthy eating was then conducted, wherein students were divided into teams and tasked with creating an ‘Eat Right Thali’ representing a balanced and nutritious diet.

The event also featured an engaging demonstration on adulteration tests conducted by the students, highlighting simple methods to identify impurities in food items.

Thereafter, Dr Kavita Ramasamy, delivered an insightful and enriching talk on the importance of reading food labels and understanding nutritional information such as added sugar, fats, sodium and energy content. She also highlighted the crucial distinction between ‘Best Before’ and ‘Expiry Date’ while cautioning students against misleading marketing strategies and manipulative packaging tactics often used by food companies. Her inspiring words, “The best gift we can give to ourselves is a healthy lifestyle,” deeply resonated with the audience and left a lasting impression on the young minds present.

This was followed by an equally impactful and eye-opening second session conducted by Revant Himatsingka, popularly known as the ‘FoodPharmer’. Mr Himatsingka spoke about food marketing gimmicks and the importance of informed eating habits through his initiative, ‘Label Padhega India’. Through an engaging multimedia presentation, he explained how many food products misleadingly compare themselves to traditional foods such as roti for fibre content, how celebrities are strategically used to endorse unhealthy products, how the colour green is often used to create a false perception of healthiness, and how complementary food items are marketed together to encourage higher consumption

Students of  the Junior School also participated in the event and presented an exhibition highlighting the importance of reading nutrition labels on commonly consumed products such as carbonated drinks, chips, biscuits, noodles and chocolates, along with the significance of including millets, dietary fibres, vitamins and minerals from fruits and vegetables in one’s daily diet to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

He warmly welcomed the entire FSSAI team and expressed heartfelt gratitude for their valuable presence and effort towards promoting health awareness among students.

Recalling nostalgic memories from his childhood, he shared how eating healthy was much simpler in earlier times when food was more natural, fresh and less processed. Through meaningful anecdotes and thoughtful reflections, he encouraged students to appreciate the value of simple and balanced meals and inspired them to cultivate healthy habits.

The cultural segment of the programme added colour, creativity and artistic brilliance to the event. The melodious choir presentation ‘Eat Right, Feel Bright’ captivated the audience with its harmonious rendition and meaningful lyrics. The choir also creatively displayed banners carrying impactful health messages that synchronised beautifully with the song, creating a visually enchanting and emotionally uplifting performance.

This was followed by the spectacular dance drama titled ‘Rhythm of Healthy Choices’, which conveyed the importance of balanced nutrition and healthy living through graceful expressions, energetic choreography and compelling storytelling. Thereafter, a vibrant hip-hop performance based on the initiative ‘Label Padhega India’ was presented, wherein the students presented a dynamic and high-energy act that brilliantly combined awareness with entertainment.
