GUEST SPEAKER PROGRAMME ON THE TOPIC “SCOPE AND RELEVANCE OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES”

Delhi Public School R.K. Puram organised a Guest Speaker Programme on the topic “Scope and Relevance of Foreign Languages” on 28 May 2021 for the students of classes VIII- X. 

The First Guest speaker, Ms Maryline Laidin is an Attaché for Cooperation in french language at the Institut Français of the  French Embassy. She has been working in this capacity since September 2018. She is responsible for the northern zone and  for  the conduction of DELF and DALF exams in India.

The second Guest speaker, Dr. Shruti Jain is an Associate Professor at the Global Languages Centre, O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat, Haryana. She has received her PhD from the Centre of German Studies, School of Language, Literature and Cultural Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her areas of interest are Literature and Cultural Studies focussing on Indo-German Encounters and German Language Teaching. 

The Vice Principal, Dr. Renu Nayar, Headmistress and HOD, Foreign Languages Department, Ms. Rashmi Malhotra, the Class Representatives, Class teachers, and students of classes VIII-X attended the session. 

During the Guest Speaker Programme,  Ms. Laidin conducted a very interactive session. In the first session she spoke about the scope and relevance of foreign languages in general and in the second part she emphasised on French language and culture and it’s career prospects. She also held an interactive session on French and English loan words, which the audience thoroughly enjoyed. 

Dr. Jain focussed on relevance and scope of German language in various sectors. She highlighted on foreign language education in India and scholarships under DAAD ( German Academic Exchange Service). She gave cross cultural references of Indo-German connection through literature. 

This was followed by a Question and Answer session where Ms Laidin and Dr. Jain provided insightful answers to wide-ranging questions from the students. 

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the Headmistress, and HoD, Foreign Languages Department, Ms. Rashmi Malhotra. The event was organised by Mr. Vaibhav Popli with technical support from Mr. Mukesh Kumar and his team.
