“Self defence is not just a set of techniques, it’s a state of mind that begins with the belief that you are worth defending” -Rorion GracieA workshop on ‘Self Defence’ was organised on 3rd March, 2023 in the Open Air Theatre. Various self-defence techniques were taught to the teachers to help prepare them for unexpected situations and improve their mental and physical health. They were made familiar with the prey position, formation of the fist for the punch, basic punch Position, and hay- sound that is to be made during the attack to make the attack more powerful. The next in line was the introduction of basic and intermediate self-defence techniques, including ashikaga-shi punch position, fingertips attack, neck locks, other block attacks, elbow attack, hand grips, bust attack, book & pen attack, hair grip and defence, other grip attacks and defence. The training programme was full of learning, fun and excitement.

Muskaan Saxena of XII-V authored her debut book, titled, “LOST IN PARADISE – FEELINGS FROM LIFE.” Spoken straight from the heart, Lost in Paradise, a poetry anthology, tries to explore the realm of emotions a person feels in the various phases of life. It tries to give words to emotions otherwise unspoken. It is about experiences and connections that we feel with others, the nature and with ourselves. A dreamer and an achiever, Muskaan aspires to bring out the positives in life through her writing.
THEATRE IN EDUCATION FOR TEACHERS BY- Mr. Prabhjot Singh

A workshop on ‘Theatre in Education for Teachers’ was organised on 23rd February, 2023 in the Audio Visual Hall. Mr. Prabhjot Singh asked everyone to introduce themselves using their acting skills to break the ice. Thereafter, he highlighted the importance of observation and how we are conditioned to act in a stereotypical manner using various fun activities. He also explained that the only way to get over stereotypes is by observing our surroundings and as teachers, it’s all the more important to enter the classroom with no preconceived notions.
He concluded the session by asking all teachers to present a skit on ‘Ek tha raja, Ek thi Rani; Dono mar gaye, khatam kahani.’ He explained that any creative process starts by identifying the prop followed by knowing the intention, incubation, investigation composition, letting out, clarifying and finally coming up with the creative product. The teachers thoroughly enjoyed the workshop.

A workshop on ‘Importance of Legal Information on Child Rights’ took place on 22nd February, 2023 in the Audio Visual Hall. The speaker Ms. Charu Makkar highlighted the importance of understanding Child Rights for teachers and how this awareness can help teachers operate better in the classrooms.
The speaker made the teachers aware about child rights such as right to free and compulsory education, right to be protected from any hazardous employment till 14 years of age, right to be protected from being trafficked and forced into bonded labour etc. She shared her experiences of dealing with aforementioned cases and what action needs to be taken. It was a very informative workshop.

The advent of technology has brought about many changes in our daily lifestyle and our mindset.The workshop on Careers of the 21st century was conducted by Mr Binit Binod and Mr Praveen Khanna from Pratham Institute on the 20th February 2023.The session started with Mr. Binit Binod highlighting that unconventional ideas or new age careers can also build one a happy and satisfying life. He gave examples of new age career options in website content writing, graphic designing, E-sports, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Media etc.
Mr. Praveen Khanna, then, stated the relevance and need for CUET (Common University Entrance Test). He highlighted the changes that have been introduced for the academic session 2022-23 like candidates will have more subjects to choose from (10 instead of 9) etc. He also cleared a lot of doubts that the teachers had regarding CUET since it was introduced last year itself.

A workshop on Work ethics,Values and Leadership was conducted on 20 February by Ms Divya Kashyap Jain.The session aimed at ensuring that all the staff members understood the relevance of work ethics, team building and leadership in the workplace. The speaker started the session by interacting with the teachers on issues related to work ethics like setting unrealistic goals, conflict of interest etc. She highlighted the importance of work ethics that help in building future leaders and also shared some competencies of effective leaders. This was done with the help of fun and interactive activities like role play, analysis of a case study and a leadership game.It was a fruitful session- interactive and highly engaging.
WORKSHOP FOR TEACHING STAFF
Teachers’ Training Workshop is a continuous process that helps the teachers in learning teaching skills, master new knowledge, develop new proficiency, which in turn, helps improve students’ learning. Delhi Public School, R.K Puram organized various workshops for the teaching staff members in the months of February and March. These workshops were conducted by various field experts to educate and inform the staff members about various domains related to education. These workshops were educational, informative and enriching.

Exercise doesn’t have to feel like a chore. It can be fun for both kids and adults. A highly energetic Aerobics Session was conducted by Ms. Ankita Aggarwal, Ms. Dhanushree Chahal and Ms. Twinkle in the Open Air Theatre(OAT) for teachers on 17 February from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. After warming up, the trainers instructed the teachers to do some easy-to-follow dance moves set to upbeat music. The trainers made sure that teachers of every age group participated with full zeal and enthusiasm. The session was for beginners and involved basic steps that included jumping, on the spot running, squats etc. The session ended with cool down and stretch exercises.
‘SKILLS N THRILLS’ SHOWCASE(VI-VIII)-DEC/JAN 2022-23
The event was an amalgamation of a plethora of performances by students, unfolding their ideas and displaying their acquisition of skills in the Art Education and Work Experience classes. Here’s a glimpse of some enthralling presentations-The English Theatre students presented the genre of mystery and suspense through their self written story, street play and skits pertaining to social issues of Child Abuse and Nature Conservation as well as on diverse themes such as King Lear by Shakespeare, Mother’s Day by J.B. Priestley, The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, ‘Christmas Chronicle’ and acts from the Mahabharata. The Hindi Theatre enthusiasts showcased an enactment on the topic, ‘’स्वर्ग में हड़ताल’ नाटक’ and ‘Andher Nagari Chopat Raja’.
A symphonic performance by the students of Indian Vocal Music, a mellifluous rendition by the orchestra followed by a soulful portrayal of popular English songs by the students of Western Vocal Music set the tone for the event. An ardent and enthusiastic fusion dance performance was put up by the students of Classical and Western Dance.
Powerpoint presentations and projects made by the students of Think lab educating the audience regarding future thinking on critical sustainability issues and ‘Water Conservation’ were demonstrated. Articles created out of household waste products were displayed by the students of ‘Create Out of Waste’.
Health and I showcased skits on vector borne diseases like malaria and its prevention, food adulteration and importance of a balanced diet.The Social Service group also presented a skit on the topic, ‘What happens in dark, always comes to light’.The Robotics team displayed its ability in building and coding robots to have special talents. Grade 6 students exhibited their robotic cars during the showcase time.
Each participant who took part in the event was exceptionally gifted and the crowd was entranced by their ability.
The event ended with Ms. Vinita Gupta, Headmistress (VI-VIII), addressing the audience. She emphasised the importance of extra-curricular activities in a student’s life highlighting the relevance and significance of such activities in the holistic growth of the students.

Topic : “LOHRI AND MAKAR SANKRANTI”
The students of class VI E and VI F came together to revive the festive spirit of Lohri and Makar Sankranti with their Class Assembly held on 02 Feb 2023 in the AVH.
The event commenced with a melodious morning prayer sung by Ayan Alam, Adya Khanna, Yuvraj, Iris Ahlawat, Karman Singh, Gurleen Kaur, Mitali Bakshi, Mohammad Adyaan, Ankit, Dhuruv, Mishka, Saanvi Sawhney, Trishala and Saara. The comperes Ishaan Shrivastav, Zoya Kaur, Arav Mukherjee and Navya Mehta welcomed the audience with the vivacious spirit of the festivals. Adya Khanna and Viraaj Gupta shared their thoughts for the day in French and Sanskrit respectively. Speeches on the relevance of the festivals were delivered by Aniket Aggarwal and Vaanya Sharma. Akshainie Bedi, Satvik Gupta, Advit Gupta and Ishaan Gaur presented the news. A zestful song based on the tradition of kite-flying during this auspicious time was sung by the choir. Adding charm to this festivity, Aviral Nayyar, Saanvika Shrinivas, Samia, Anya Johri, Saanvi Singh Pawar, Ananya Singh, Arin Jha, Saatvika Arya and Kiara performed a Punjabi dance while Grisha Kaushik, Sanyam Singh Manak, Vamsi Singh, Mitali Bakshi, Kaavyansh and Pusan celebrated the tradition of the state of Uttarakhand by performing a beautiful dance on the famous, ‘Bedupaku’. Incorporating all of these awe-inspiring performances, a play was enacted by actors including Aniket Aggarwal, Lavika Kaur, Ashray Kaushik, Shimja, Vivaan, Navya Nandini and Nishchay which enthralled the audience.

Topic : “NATIONAL YOUTH DAY- “VIKSIT YUVA,VIKSIT BHARAT”
The students of classes VIII G AND VIII H came together to commemorate and honour the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda which is also celebrated as the “National Youth Day”. The class assembly was conducted with the primary aim of sensitising the students about the philosophies, principles, and ideas of Swami Vivekananda and promoting rational thinking among students.
The assembly commenced with the prayer ‘Subah Savere Leke Tera Naam Prabhu’ sung by Rudrankshi Patra, Garv Daga, Ashvik Gohri, Medha, Aarav Devrani, Aarav Gupta, Rayna Sharma, Ritwik Gupta and Saisha Bajaj. The comperes Shriya Sawhney and Aanya Sehgal introduced the topic and invited Ishani Aggarwal, Naitik Jha, Ridaan Sethi, Agastaya Chandok and Kartik Vats to read the news bulletin. ‘Benediction’ a poem by Swami Vivekananda was recited by Kimaya Gupta.
Tanya Garg, Jai Goel, Ranbir Singh Dhillon, Vidhaan Garg, Nishchay Rawat, Ose Gupta, Navika Singh, Khwahish Tokas, Pranam Chandok, Diksha Vats, Divit Gupta and Kabir Khan delivered speeches on the life of Swami Vivekananda and his contribution to yoga. Myra Singh, Aekagra Sondhi, Elina Aggarwal, Shreya Walia and Aryaman Gupta showcased their talent with a mesmerising instrumental performance. This was followed by a skit on the life of Swami Vivekananda and his teachings which was performed by Shaurya Trehan, Ridhiman Panwar, Rayna Sharma, Maira Anand, Madhav Goyal, Dhruv Bhardwaj, Riddhi Jain and Siddhi Jain. A beautiful fusion dance was presented by Yantika Upadhyay, Anushree Chakraborty, Aadya Singh, Yashvi Gairola and Aradhya Gupta. In the end, Elina Aggarwal, Aditya Sahrawat, Saisha Bajaj, Shreya Walia and Tavishi Singh enlightened us with the teachings of Swami Vivekananda.
The aesthetic artwork, virtual designing, cards and folders were done by Arshiya Juneja, Akhil Ranjan, Kartik Rhode, Siddhi Jain, Riddhi Jain, Aadya and Yashvi. The digital presentation was made and presented by Ayon Choudhury.
