MOVIE SCREENING

‘Relating a person to the whole world: that is the meaning of cinema’.

The school organized a movie show for the students of Classes IX-X in the second week of July. Students, accompanied by the teachers, were taken to PVR Sangam, where they watched the movie ‘Chandu Champion’. The film was selected for its educational value and age-appropriate content. 

The movie screening received positive feedback from both students and teachers. It successfully combined entertainment with inspiring themes of hardwork and inclusion.  The students had a fun-filled movie excursion and they returned with cherished memories.

Visit to PRAYAG & Sewage Treatment Plant at Okhla by Team Yamuna

On 25th July 2024,a team of students visited PRAYAG (Platform for real-time analysis of Ganga and Yamuna at NMCG Office) and STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) at Okhla.

The team comprising of Nanya Gupta IX M,Satvik Daksh Gupta IX O,Shashwat Anurag IX H,Vaishnavi IX H,Vani Menon IX M,Kavin Chaudhary X L,Kabir Sahni X M, Anaisha Arora X L,Raghuveer Prakash X M, Aditi Thakur XI L working on the River Yamuna Project: ‘From Pollution to Purity’ under the leadership of Ms Padma Srinivasan,Principal.The Project is planned and coordinated by Ms Niva Chhonkar ,Head-Biology Department.

PRAYAG – which stands for Platform for Real-time Analysis of Yamuna, Ganga and their Tributaries is at National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) office in New Delhi. Prayag is a Real Time Monitoring Centre for planning and monitoring of projects, river water quality, etc. through various online dashboards.PRAYAG was launched on 20 April 2023.Mr Dheeraj Joshi,Deputy Secretary,NMCG explained about the working of different dashboards.It was amazing to check the real time monitoring parameters like BOD,DO etc indicators of river health.Mr Nalin Kumar Shrivastava, Deputy Director General, NMCG addressed the students and appreciated their interest in this project

Later the students visited  STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) at Okhla,is the joint venture of Delhi Jal Board & National Mission of Clean Ganga was  completed in the year 2023.This 564 MLD plant at Okhla, Delhi is  the largest capacity STP in Asia and plays a major role in cleaning of Yamuna. Designed & Built on state of the art technologies, it produces a very high quality water as per international standards. The plant will utilize a UV system to treat & disinfect the water.. The plant generates 5 MW of green energy which is  used to run the Plant. The byproduct sludge is also of High class – A quality, for safe use by farmers as manure.

The students were totally at awe with the design and capacity of the plant.This educational trip was an unforgettable one.

MATHEMATICAL CRUSADE 2024

“In Mathematics, the art of proposing a question must be held of greater value than solving it.”  – George Cantor

Matsoc, the Mathematics Club Of Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram, organised Mathematical Crusade 2024, which took place on July 27, 2024. During this annual event, students demonstrated their analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, creativity and critical thinking skills related to Mathematics, in unique and innovative ways. The chief guest for this event was Mr. Mrinaal Mittal, Director at Unity Group and an alumnus of DPS R K Puram, IIM Bangalore and the University of Illinois. This event saw the participation of 28 schools from across Delhi NCR.

The fest included four activities that allowed students of classes VI to XII to use their mathematical skills along with their creativity. The various competitions included in the event were: 

Math-o-Kalender

The participants were required to create an interactive mathematical calendar for the month of July, using elements like mathematics-related concepts, ideas, inventions and informative tit-bits. Their creations were judged on the basis of innovative approach, originality and extent of mathematical concepts used. The event was judged by Dr. Manvinder Kaur, who is an Associate Professor at Guru Ram Dass College of Education, and Dr. Bhaveent Kaur who is an Associate Professor at Lady Shri Ram College.

Modeil Mathematica 

This event necessitated the involvement of participants in teams of three. They were tasked with delivering a concise summary of the life of a chosen mathematician, or, alternatively, one student was to assume the role of a mathematician, with the assistance of two other participants in supporting roles. This event served as the quintessential illustration of teamwork, as the participants collaborated and adopted a theatrical methodology in their exploration of the lives and contributions of various mathematicians.This event was judged by Dr. Anshika, who is an Assistant professor at Gargi College and Ms. Sneha Chandra, alumnus of DPS R K Puram, who is currently pursuing Bachelor’s in Materials Engineering at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and is a recipient of the Ministry of Education Grant from the Singapore Government.

Symphonies Of Math.

The event offered an opportunity for talented young musicians with mathematical abilities to exhibit the co-existence of these two expertise. Participants were rendered upon the chance to express their enthusiasm for mathematics through innovative and creative means. The musical showcase encompassed a diverse array of performances, ranging from the jazz genres to a “pi” song. The panel of judges assessed the contestants on the basis of their originality and ingeniousness, inventive methodology, and comprehensive presentation skills. The judges for this competition were Ms. Charu Sharma and Ms. Ritu Gupta. Ms. Charu Sharma is an Assistant professor at Shiv Nadar Institute of Eminence, Uttar Pradesh. Dr.Ritu Gupta is an Associate Professor, Department Of Mathematics,Miranda House,Delhi University.

ㄫ-o-neers Quiz

24 teams participated in the preliminary round of the quiz. 6 teams qualified for the final round. Each team had an eloquent go at the 6 rounds of the quiz, which tested their abilities in problem-solving, critical thinking, and facts recalling. 

The culmination of the annual Mathematical Crusade, 2024 was marked by a grand Valedictory Ceremony, which commenced on an auspicious note with a classical dance recital on Saraswati Vandana. During his address, the Vice Principal Mr. Naresh Miglani thanked the chief guest and the judges for gracing the event and adding value to it by providing feedback and encouragement to the participants.The Vice Principal Mr. Anil Kumar Kathuria thanked the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, for her visionary guidance in hosting the event. He highlighted the importance of the interaction between participants from different schools in gaining knowledge and exchanging ideas. This was followed by an enticing musical performance. The chief guest, Mr.Mrinaal Mittal  addressed the gathering, reminiscing about his own experiences at school and appreciated the efforts of the backstage managing team in ensuring a seamless flow of events.

The victorious teams in each category were announced by the Head of the Mathematics Department, Ms. Ritu Nayar. They received certificates and trophies from the Chief Guest, Mr. Mrinaal Mittal, the Vice Principals Mr. Naresh Miglani, Mr. Anil Kumar Kathuria and Mr. Mukesh Kumar. Additionally, all the participating teams were presented with participation certificates and trophies as a token of appreciation for their enthusiasm and commitment towards making the fest an engaging and successful event. This fest concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Vice Principal Mr. Mukesh Kumar, followed by the National Anthem.

Educational visit to National Gandhi Museum, Rajghat

The students of Class VIII visited the National Gandhi Museum, Rajghat on 16th, 18th and 19th April 2024 as part of an activity by the history department . The trip began with a lot of enthusiasm and vigour. The National gallery showcased a large number of paintings and personal belongings of Mahatma Gandhi. It is a unique museum with its rich collection of original documents, personal relics not only belonging to Gandhiji but also of his close associates. Gandhiji’s life is presented here through relics, photographs, audio-visuals, literature, art works and full scale replica of his hut in Sabarmati Ashram. 

The galleries included Charkha Gallery, Martyrdom Gallery, Commemorative Gallery, Children Gallery etc.The students were shown a short documentary film on the life of Mahatma Gandhi depicting his contribution in the freedom struggle. The use of advanced multimedia to showcase Mahatma Gandhi’s lifestyle and his principles not only induced and increased the awareness of children but also instilled in them the sense of nationalism.The trip was organized by the history coordinator Ms.Nuzhat Shaikh Class VIII Coordinator.

TOPIC: “ALEXA, FAST FORWARD: EMBRACE TODAY, EMPOWER TOMORROW”

On Thursday, 25th July 2024, Classes XII P and XII R presented an assembly on the occasion of Youth Skills Day. The Audio Visual Hall buzzed with anticipation as students, parents and teachers gathered for the eagerly anticipated assembly titled, “Alexa Fast Forward: Embrace today, Empower tomorrow.” This assembly aimed to inspire and motivate young minds to recognize the significance of the present and understand how their actions today shape their future.

The assembly commenced on a spiritual note with a melodious morning prayer by Saanvi Bajaj, Sneha singh, Rajeev Singh, Bhavya Kubba, Ayush Agarwal, Atul Raj Dhawan, Himanshu Yadav, Nandita Sharma, Venya Garg, Yashvi Gupta, Sirat Kaur, Avni Kaur , Aditya Rakheja, Jahanvi Jaiswal, Hardik Goyal, Siyona Arora, Dhruvi, Anand Gupta, Ayush Bharadwaj, Jia Gupta, Arhaan Wadhwa, Nandini Nathani, Raghav, Anirudh, Dev, Anmol, Vanya, Yatharth, Shrish, Ishaan, Parth and Sahir. This was followed by a graceful invocation dance by Venika Ajith.

The students presented a Skit on how chasing the future can lead to missing out on the beauty and lessons of the present. The skit incorporated Thought of the Day, presented by Rajeev Singh, followed by news headlines given by Abhimanyu Shetty, Mihika Kapoor, Emaad Kidwai and Diya. The skit was enthusiastically put up by Parth, Arhaan Wadhwa, Nandini Nathani, Himanshu Yadav, Advika Harisukh, Saanvi Bajaj, Arush Gupta, Jahanvi Jaiswal, Rajeev Singh, Atul Raj Dhawan, Ayush Agarwal, Nandita Dutt Sharma and Anoushka Prasad. A group dance was presented by Dhwani ,Shaurya, Satwika, Shilky, Sanvi S., Avni, Yashvi and Venya. The skit was followed by an engaging and relatable Standup Comedy by Sneha Singh, Venya Garg, Yashvi Gupta, Sirat Kaur, Himanshu Yadav, Aditya Rakheja, Advika Harisukh, Jahanvi Jaiswal, Arnuv Gupta, Nandita Dutt Sharma, Prachit Jain, Shaurya Datta and Ekam Singh.

The choir comprised of Bhavya Kubba, Saanvi Bajaj, Rajeev Singh, Veyshaant Pandey, Sneha Singh, Venya Garg, Sirat Kaur, Himanshu Yadav, Nandita Sharma, Hardik Goyal, Yashvi Gupta, Advika Harisukh, Jahanvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Shetty, Emaad Kidwai, Avni Kaur, Aditya Rakheja, Nitya Mulchandani, Nandini, Saanvi S.. Ishaan Gupta, Vanya, Avni, Siyona, Dhruvi, Arhaan, Parth, Sahir, Ayush, Anand, Satwika, Yatharth, Dia, Shrish, and Vanya. The instruments were harmoniously played by Inesh, Shaneil, Bhavya and Atul. Towards the end, a melodious duet was performed by Sahira Mahesh and Siyona Arora. The assembly ended with a self composed poem by Nandini Nathani. Compères for the assembly were Advika, Saanvi Bajaj, Sirat, Saanvi Khanna, Shaurya, Dev and Shubham.

The board was creatively put up by Nandita, Anoushka, Siyona, Shaurya, Jia, Diya, Advika and Mihika. Topic: GURU PURNIMA

“Guru is the light in the dark, an Inspiration and Aspiration”.

The students of classes VII A and VII B presented their class assembly on the topic- “Guru Purnima.”A teacher is not the one who teaches, but the one who inspires you to learn.

The Compering was efficiently handled by Aakarsh Mishra, Darshika Khandelwal, Amaira Ahluwalia, Aarav Tripathi and Anya Sethi .

The assembly commenced with a melodious prayer “Teri hai zameen tera Aasmaan” which was sung by Ananya Singh, Sushant Rai, Atharva Bhadula, Vihaan Sharma, Suryaansh Garg, Paras Sharma, Deekshant Jaiman, Daksh, Gulshan Kumar, Deepraj Bhagat Lakra, Hardik Nawariya, Jairaj Singh Oberoi, Saira Nath, Manav Malhotra, Shubhi Pandey, Vartika Pandey, Satyajit Jana, and Veera Singh. This was followed by the Ganesh Vandana which was beautifully performed by Inaaya Jain and G. Josheka Sai.

The Shlok was recited by Ayush Pandey and the meaning was illustrated by Kartikay Singh. Next was Devanshi Agarwal and Shanaya Arora sharing their insightful and thought-provoking “Thoughts for the day”, they truly inspired the audience with their wisdom and positivity. The news updates were given by Nandani Kaushik, Mohd.Yusuf Wasif, Apoorva Tiwari, and Azhaan Jamal.

The skit was presented by Arshi Batra, Kaustav Vaibhav, Ayana Aggarwal,Viaan Madan, Kanav Puri, Ashman , Krishaang Singhl, Yesha Gaur, Rishab Bhandari, Rujul Kumar, Arjun Rana and Vivaan Kumar. A Poem telling the significance of Gurus was composed and recited by Pallavi Bhadauria and Veer Pratap Singh.

The stage came alive with a captivating dance performance by Gurnoor Narula, Charvy Singh, Aavika Sinha, Arpita, Aarna, Akhilesh Kr.Singh, and Avatara Khandhari. A zealous group song was performed by Avni Kalra, Shiven Vij, Chhavi Shaambhavyi, Nirmaan Chopra, Vivaan Sabharwal, Vivaan Jain, Manvir Singh, Hardik Singh Shekhawat, Kasni kashyap, Prakhar Pandey, Yuvraj Grover, Ansh Garg, Ananya Rath, Avantika Wadhwa, Ayaan Aziz, Vivaan Sharma, Anmol Singh, Bhavya Basoya and Aaradhya Dhanuka.

Assembly X-G (23-07-2024)

TOPIC: “ROOTS AND WINGS”

Today’s class assembly by Class XG on the theme “Roots and Wings: Balancing Tradition and Progress” was a captivating celebration of heritage and innovation. 

The assembly started with the Prayer Hum Ko Man Ki Shakti Dena symbolising strengthening oneself before others sung by Adarsh, Siddhant, Mrinayak, Kartik Kashyap, Kshitij, Ashi, Yana, Shubham, Khushi, Kartik Gaur, Amman, Kamakshi, Varnika, Aryan, Anwesh, Lakshay, and Adhavan. Next was a mesmerising display of a classical dance presented by Pallavi and Aradhan as well as a contemporary dance presented by Aradhna, Pallavi, Ananya, Khushi, Shrutika, Priyansh, Kshitij and Rishika where students showcased traditional moves blended with contemporary styles, symbolising the harmony between old and new. 

The melodious song echoed the same theme and was sung by Priyansh, Arsh, Anwesh, Aradhna, Pallavi, Pratyusha, Mrinayak, Khushi, Kartik Kashyap, Manaswita, Ashi, Arjun, Amaan, Shubham, Adhavan, Yana, Avechal, Kshitij, Tanishq, Arav, Lakshay and Vaishnavi, with lyrics reflecting respect for our roots while embracing modernity. The highlight of the assembly was a well-performed skit presented by Azeem, Adarsh, Siddhant, Priyansh, Manaswita, Yana, Kshitij, Ashi, Misha, Adhavan, Tejsev, Shaurya, Lakshay, Aryan, and Arav that depicted the everyday struggles of balancing cultural roots with the desire to move forward, resonating deeply with the audience. 

The assembly beautifully conveyed the message of honouring our past while confidently stepping into the future. Today’s message leaves a lasting impact on our hearts and teaches us to never forsake our past.

Festival Della Scienza-3.0

“Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure science” Edwin Powell Hubble

Delhi Public school R.K Puram hosted its annual Science festival ‘Festival Della Scienza-3.0’ in a hybrid mode on 20th July 2024.The event was organised in collaboration with the Biology Department, Chemistry Department, and Physics Department of the school. Students from 28 schools from all over Delhi  participated in this event, brought together by their desire to showcase their scientific aptitude and creativity through exhibitions and competitions.

The Science fest was conducted both online and offline. The online mode had events such as Mappa Mentale/Mind Map Design for students of Classes VI to VIII on the topic Principles of Science in the Human Body. Fotografia Scientifica/Scientific Photography for Classes IX and X On Scientific Phenomenon around us. Messaggio Bobine/ Reels with a message for Classes  XI and XII on Air Pollution. Programma di lezione/Lesson Plan Design for Science Teachers on Lesson plan written innovatively as per the new NCF Guidelines.

The onsite activities consisted of 8 events conducted across various venues within the school, such as – 

Quiz di Scienza/Science Quiz for Class VI on All aspects of Science: Past,Present & Future. The event consisted of 21 teams of 2 students each. The preliminary round consisted of 30 questions, after which 6 teams qualified for the final round of 30 questions. 

Giochiamo alla Scienza/Let’s play Science for Class VII on any concept/principle/theory/laws of Science. The participants were required to create an innovative game (board, card, or online) applying the concept chosen by them within 5 minutes. The judgement criteria consisted of creativity, confidence and presentation, ease of playing, choice of scientific concept and its application, and the overall impact of the project. The judges for the event were Dr Arushi Gupta, professor of anaesthesia at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, and Dr Nandita Naryanswamy, assistant professor at department of biochemistry, Sri Venkateswara College. 

Rappresentare/Role Play for Class VIII on Gadgets we use. The 21 participating schools showcased the importance of technology in everyday life, and were judged on the basis of the message conveyed through the script and the overall impact of the demonstration.

Esprimere/Express the concept for Class IX was an event in which participants had to make use of cost effective and eco-friendly material to demonstrate an activity on any topic from the Class IX Science Text Book. The creative and elaborate models highlighted various concepts of science observed in our surroundings. Participants were judged on the basis of explanation and clarity of concept, innovation, materials used, queries answered and the overall impact. The event was judged by Dr Rinky Aggarwal, a Level 5 scientist at NIPGR, 

Vasant Kunj and Rudraneel Sinha, who is pursuing his PhD at Purdue University, USA.

Scoprire la natura/Discover nature for Class X on Patterns in nature/Natural Scientific Phenomenon in and around us. Participants employed various explanatory materials such as presentations, posters and demonstrations to explain the principle and impact of an interesting natural scientific phenomenon within 5 minutes. The participants were judged on the basis of choice of topic, presentation, scientific skills, clarity and explanation of phenomena, and overall impact. The judges consisted of Dr Shailza Gera, senior consultant anaesthesiologist at Adiva Hospital ultrasonologist at Neptune Hospital, and Dr Monika Sharma, who is an associate professor at the department of zoology at Miranda House and has assisted in the framing of the NEP and CBCS curricula. 

The events for class XI and XII were divided into three distinct categories.

Physics:Creativa Ingegneria/creative Engineering where they had to design a useful creative device/tool/machinery to provide novel solutions to everyday problems. 16 schools participated in the event, where the participants had an hour to assemble the components to create their models, and had 4 minutes to present the concept to the judges. The judgement criteria consisted of clarity of concept, innovation, efficacy, cost effectiveness and application. The event was judged by Mr Arpan Kumar Kar, who is a professor of Information Systems and School of Artificial Intelligence at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and holds the AS Gupta Endowed Chair Professorship in data and decision science.

Chemistry:Demo di Chimica/Chemistry demo where they had to give a demonstration of any concept of chemistry related to the syllabus of their class XI and XII textbooks. The judges for the event were Mrs Monica Bhatia and Mrs Alinda Holla, who have both been chemistry teachers in Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram. The criteria for judgement was innovation, presentation, concept clarity and explanation queries answered and overall impact. 

Biology: Medicina futura/future Medicine for classes XI and XII, where they had to give an innovative method to diagnose/treat any medical condition. The criteria for judgement was medical condition chosen, originality of solution,creativity, delivery and communication and clinical use for human welfare. The event was judged by Dr Deepak Ghualiani, professor of surgery at MAMC and Fellow at the American College of Surgeons and Dr Rohit Saxena , senior consultant of thoracic surgery at Metro Centre for Respiratory Diseases. 

The valedictory ceremony was conducted wherein the Principal Ms Padma Srinivasan felicitated Chief Guests Mr. Ashish Chaudhury, an alumni, and also the director of Akash Healthcare, Ms. Pallavi Verma of the Head media, Branding and Communication and Mr. Pritam Bokadia, EA to Dr. Ashish. The Principal Ms Padma Srinivasan in her address congratulated the meritorious students for their commendable hard work. She also congratulated the Heads of the departments  Ms Niva Chhonkar,Mr Prem Prakash Dhawan and Mr Ajay Goel for the splendid fest. She also congratulated the teachers involved in the fest for their dedication and sincerity displayed especially at events of this magnitude. She also said that the activities were designed in a way to test the talent of students.The words of famous scientists continue to inspire us and remind us of the immense power of human curiosity, innovation, and perseverance. From uncovering the mysteries of the universe to unravelling the intricacies of the microscopic world, scientists have transformed our understanding of reality and opened up new horizons of knowledge.These events help open new corridors for children to explore.

The vote of thanks was proposed by the Vice Principal Mr Naresh Miglani where he thanked the Principal Ms Padma Srinivasan for providing the students with the opportunity to host such events which ignite young  minds and help develop a scientific bent of mind.He also thanked the heads of the three  departments of Science,Ms Niva Chhonkar,Mr Prem Prakash Dhawan and Mr Ajay Goel  for the smooth collaborative effort which helps in the success of the event.He also thanked the teachers involved for their hard work and sincerity and the support staff for working tirelessly for all the support provided.

The ceremony culminated with the rendition of the national anthem by the school choir.

CLASS IX OPEN HOUSE

The Open House for the parents of Class IX was organized on 13th July 2024 from 8:00 a.m. to  1:00 p.m. in order to facilitate a fruitful interaction between the parents and the subject teachers. The parents interacted with the subject teachers on a one-to-one basis regarding their ward’s academic performance in the half yearly examination. Parents were appreciative of the efforts and the work done by the class 9 class teachers and the school authorities.

TECH SPECTRUM 2024

Members of “Roboknights” and “Exun” participated in the “Tech Spectrum 2024” organized by  Gyan Bharati School Saket, New Delhi from 20-July-2024. Medhansh Pandya  of class IX N and Aryaman Ojha  of class IX N  won the Second in the “Techno Soccer” event and  Showais Noor, Ahmed Adhiraj Jain, Arhan Sharma  IX M won the First   position in the “Castle Run” event. Aadvik Jain of class VII G and  Praavir Sahu of class XII E    also participated in the “AI Quest” event.
