Best Performance in the 12th Sanskrit Olympiad

Amity International School, Saket organised the Sanskrit Divas programme on 26th of Aug 2019. Maanya Sareen of class X and Dipita Singh of class XI bagged the 2nd position and the Rolling Trophy for their Best Performance in the 12th Sanskrit Olympiad.



National Youth Icon Award 2019

Vedant Garg is currently a 12th grader studying in Delhi Public School RK Puram. He is immensely passionate about the sciences and enjoys working on projects that have a real-world impact. The 17-Year old is a recipient of the prestigious National Youth Icon Award 2019 owing to his exceptional effort shown towards developing the community around him and other positive effects on the world at large. 

Associated with Save Child Beggar since 2016, he currently serves as the Head of IT and Social Media and has helped launch it to become one of the largest social outreach organisations in the country. He is deeply enthusiastic about spreading education to the less fortunate and wishes to continue working on this in the future. A clean energy enthusiast who has worked on developing the app and business model as the Tech and Business innovation leader for Charzing, a company that has integrated electric vehicle charging stations across Delhi.

Along with this, Vedant developed the Majime reputation model and a mathematical model    detailing the effects of such a system on the gig economy. Majime is a blockchain based platform which seeks to decentralise work. It brings clients, partners, providers, freelancers and vendors in a single space. This project will soon be patented. His other work includes writing a research paper titled “Algorithm Certainty Analysis of Spatial Data for Terrain Model” which has been accepted to various international geology and civil engineering journals and conferences. He developed an algorithm for 3-D mapping regions by spatial data procured by drones. It is a continuous terrain model generator which presents a spatial coordinate set which forms the boundary of the shadow zone with discrete spatial coordinates which is normalized in Gaussian distribution through a Poisson transition.

An enthusiastic quizzer he has won several quizzes including a prestigious national environment quiz jointly held by the Ministry of Environment, climate change and the MET department. He is an active member of his school community and is part of several societies. Vedant has also won several academic accolades; he is a KVPY scholar, NTSE scholar, JSTSE scholar and has qualified national level Olympiads in maths, astronomy and junior science (top 36 students in the country).

Topic: Patriotism: My Right, My Duty

Patriotism is the feeling of love and respect for one’s country and fellow countrymen. Loving one’s country does not always mean that one has to sacrifice one’s life. However, as Indians we can surely contribute towards the betterment of the country. If you are patriotic, you are patriotic all through your life. If you are bringing some change in the society, you are patriotic. Patriotism nurtures a feeling of responsibility in the citizens. A responsible citizen never causes any harm to the fellow citizens or public utilities and infrastructure. The students of VI G showcased the theme through a few poems, speech, skit on freedom fighters and a dance performance. A presentation on the state of Kerala was also made to show the rich culture and diversity of the country. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi, ‘Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilisation.’



Students of Classes VI To VIII Visit Gandhi Smriti

A short visit to Gandhi Smriti was organised for the students of classes VI-VIII. The students got an opportunity to have a glimpse of Gandhiji’s life. The models portrayed various incidents that took place in his life and that also made the students curious to know more about his personal and political life.  The students also visited the Multimedia hall where they got an opportunity to know about the ideologies of the Mahatma. They saw Gandhi ji’s last steps and the site where he fell to the assassin’s bullets. Later, they were taken around by guides to the multimedia museum, to see the exhibition depicting various stages of his life, starting from his early life in Porbundar, student life in England, as a lawyer in South Africa and the movements led by him in India. The museum illustrated the Gandhian ideology of truth, non- violence and that we are all stronger when we are together. The peace and tranquillity of the place touched us all had a serene impact on the students.



Interactive session on Waste Management for Class VII

An interactive session on Waste Management was organised for the students of Class VII and the Speaker was Dr. Pooja Gokhale Sinha,Professor,Environmental Biology and her team of students from Sri Venkateswara College Ms. Niva Chhonkar,Headmistress,welcomed Dr Pooja and her team.She highlighted the importance of personal hygiene and cleanliness whether it is classroom or home.She encouraged the students to take the initiative as per Gandhi’s quote ‘Be the change you wish to see in the society’. During the session students learnt about the different types of waste and methodologies of waste management.Students learnt about the need to dispose off waste properly and what can happen if the waste is not managed properly.Topics like E waste,importance of Waste Segregation, Single use Plastic,Biomedical Waste,GreenHouse Effect, Acid rain, Reuse of Wastewater,Composting were also brought to light.Students were surprised to learn about the waste generated by different countries , The aim was to sensitize the students about the seriousness and impact of Plastics on the environment. At the end of the session students enjoyed a fun quiz, a reflection on the topics related to waste management. A token prizes were given to the students as rewards for answering correctly.Ms Rituraj ,Rep Class VII delivered the vote of thanks. It was an educating and memorable experience for the students .



DPS R.K.Puram students participate in ‘SWACHCHTA PAKHWADA’ Activities at NATIONAL SCIENCE CENTRE

To celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, under ‘Swachchta Pakhwada’ various activities was organized by the National Science Centre, New Delhi.  Students of classes VI -VIII participated in three different competitions i.e. On the spot painting, Slogan writing and Quiz on 25.9.19, 27.9.18 & 30.9.19 respectively. Five students won prizes in different categories. In on the spot painting competition Naina of VII-D won the Second prize,in Hindi slogan writing competition Anoushka of VIII-F won the First prize, in English slogan writing competition of Hashmeet VIII-J won the consolation prize and in the quiz Ruhee of VII- F and Adya of VIII-K were awarded.



Student Solar Ambassador Workshop

We at DPS R K Puram participated in 1 million effort for mother earth initiative. 75 students from classes 6 to 12 took part in the workshop to make their own solar study lamp. Students took a pledge to be non -violent towards environment. The workshop was successfully conducted by master trainers from school. It was done under the guidance of IIT Mumbai. Participating students and teachers will receive certificates. This is a step towards learning , using and promoting Solar Energy.

Topic: सत्यमेव जयते ‘Truth Alone Triumphs’ Truth is powerful.
Truth provides long lasting happiness, contentment and peace. With the power of truth we can win any battle. The students of class VI K beautifully rendered this idea by incorporating Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals in their morning prayer, thoughts for the day, poem and skit. The skit showcased a small episode from Gandhiji’s life, when he was a student and how unlike his other classmates he always stood for truth.The students also celebrated the diversity of India with a presentation on the state of Punjab. The students conveyed the message that truth never harms a cause that is just. We should never be afraid of telling the truth.



Poetry Writing Activity

A poetry writing activity on the life of Mahatma Gandhi was conducted by DPS R.K.Puram for Class 9. The topics included the life of Mahatma Gandhi and his philosophies on peace, education and sanitation. The students wrote in English and Hindi language. Some students chose to paint depicting their talents. The purpose was to acquaint them with the contributions of Gandhiji. The activity was a success as the students enthusiastically showcased their talents.
