Topic: Courage; If You Focus on Your Goals You Will Not Notice The Obstacles

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.
The students of class VI-A beautifully rendered this idea by incorporating it in their Speeches, Thoughts for the day, Poem, Choir and Group Dance. They also discussed about some courageous people who have left their mark in history.
The students presented the cultural heritage of the state of Odisha with a special classical dance performance. Through their assembly, the students conveyed the message that, “Courage doesn’t mean that you don’t get afraid. Courage means you don’t let fear stop you.”

Disaster Management Awareness Programme

The Geography Department organised an intersection “Board Game Making Competition’ for Class VIII on 21st November 2019 to spread awareness about Disaster Management. The topic of the Competition was awareness of various disasters. A team of two students from each section participated to create a board game using mostly recycled materials,  their imagination and creativity.  Eleven games got created and they were sampled by both students and teachers. 

All the games  were well presented and very creative.The program was organized by Ms. Sangita Bajpai  under the supervision and guidance of Head of the Department Ms. Rupa Das. The games were sampled by the HM – Ms Niva Chonkar , HOD geography department – Ms Rupa Das, HOD Hindi dept- Ms Fatima Kirmani , the class 8 reps Ms Reema Khosla and Ms Livano , reps of class VII Ms Vaishali , Ms Sangeeta Rana , Ms Deepti Choudhary , Ms Lalita Srinivasan and  Ms Ruby Bhattacharya.

Disaster Management Awareness Programme

To spread awareness on Disaster Management among the students, the Geography Department of our school organized an Intersection ‘Pamphlet Making Competition’ for Class VI on 20 November 2019.

The topic of the Competition was Do’s and Don’ts in Disasters. Many informative pamphlets were made, bringing out interesting facts by the enthusiastic students.

All the pamphlets were well presented, it was very difficult for the teachers to judge the competition.
The 1st position was shared by Suhaan Oberoi and Paavani Gupta of Class VI J and Ashwika Sharma and Parika Talwar of Class VI A
The 2nd position was shared by Aashni Mishra and Amaira A. Khan of Class VI C and Vritti Khandelwal and Aanandi Tandon of Class VI B
The 3rd position was shared by Shaurya and Alvina of Class VI E and Arav Gupta and Riddhan Saluja of Class VI I.

The programme was organized by Ms. Mahima Goel under the supervision and guidance of the Head of the Department Ms. Rupa Das.

Assembly XI-B & XI-N 20-11-2019

Topic: DARE TO DREAM

“Anything you put your mind to can be achieved if you expect to excel in what you are doing.” However, you must step ahead, and dare to dream. You must make the choice, to take the chance, if you want anything to change. The students of class XI B and N, beautifully rendered this idea by incorporating Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals in their morning prayer and thoughts for the day. The theme of the assembly ‘Dare to Dream’ was expressed through the skit,speech, and choir. Through their assembly, the students conveyed the message that, “We have the power to change our life; all we have to do is to dare to dream.” They brought out the different facets of the state of Uttar Pradesh. On the 29th of August, 2019 the Honourable Prime Minister launched the nation-wide ‘Fit India Movement’. As part of the ‘Fitness Week Celebrations’, the students endorsed the idea of a healthy mind in a healthy body and showcased some yoga asanas for the audience.

Demonstration of Biotechnology Experiments by Codon Biotech for Class XI and XII Students

A demonstration was organized on 20th November 2019 in the Senior Biology lab for the students of classes XI and XII biotechnology sections regarding experiments related to Plasmid isolation from Escherichia Coli bacteria, DNA Gel electrophoresis and DNA estimation using spectrophotometry. The students conducted practical experiments on the basis of briefing done by Dr Tripti Bhatnagar from Codon Biotech and Ms. Niva Chhonkar Head, Biology Department. The students were quite fascinated on seeing fluorescent bacterial colonies with Green Fluorescent Protein from Jelly Fish. They also isolated plasmid DNA from E. coli bacteria.DNA was cut using Restriction Enzymes followed by electrophoresis. The students noted the movement of DNA fragments after electrophoresis under Trans illuminator and found it quite enthralling. It was a fun as well as an educational experience for everyone.

Assembly IX-E & IX-F 19-11-2019

Topic: “An ode to our parents”

In today’s fast-paced world we seldom realize the roles our parents play in shaping us.  In order to reminisce just this thought the students of IX E and IX F took a step forward to express their gratitude and pay respects to their parents.  The topic for the assembly was ‘AN ODE TO OUR PARENTS’.

The assembly began by paying homage to the almighty through a Vandana and a spiritual bhajan. It was followed by a rendition titled ‘A celebration of love ’ and an electrifying dance. To catch the audience’s attention through the beauty of words, the assembly commenced with bilingual self-composed poems and speech by the students.  To end the event on a golden note, the Principal and the teachers delivered inspiring speeches to address the gathering with their inspiring words. This event was a culmination of immense love, art and talent displayed by the students followed by a vote of thanks to the parents for constantly striving to make us better versions of ourselves.

The topic of the assembly was  “Le’ Carrousel De Jubile’ ” 

The assembly started with a prayer to God –Ae Malik Tere Bande Hum, which was followed by “Durga Stuti”. The assembly progressed in the form of a skit as the students explored the festivals celebrated all around the world which included the Cherry Blossom festival, the sky lantern, The Jazz and Heritage festival and Sangkran festival. The various speeches described the cultures and traditions. the instrumental piece, the western dance and two self composed poems summed up all the elements which was followed by the guest speaker’s address(Ms. Gauri Juneja,class of 2001).The state chosen by the sections for the morning  was Maharashtra.

Toronto Open Taekwondo Championships

Jyotiraditya Chauhan of YOUNG MARTIAL ART SCHOOL INDIA , participated as an international entry  in the TORONTO OPEN TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS on November 9, 2019 in Toronto Canada. He won a SILVER MEDAL in the Sparring Division – 13-14 year olds. Taekwondo Ontario is officially recognised by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport

Winners – Interact Thunder- Inter School Western Music Competition

DPS RK Puram participated in a state level Inter-school music (Band) competition, held at Delhi Public School, Noida on 8 November 2019. It was a stiff competition in which DPS RK Puram won the 1st Prize of the competition, and Priyansh Gupta was awarded the best Bassist in the same.

Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class XI

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram conducted its Annual Scholar Badge Ceremony for class XI on 8th of November, 2019. This glorious celebration of the curricular and co-curricular achievements of students in the year 2018-19 was held with great zeal and enthusiasm. 

The theme of the event ‘Feet firmly on the ground, head held high’ was woven around speeches and Poetry Recitation while being anchored by actors playing Aladdin and his wife, lovable characters of Arabian Nights adored widely by children. They took the gathering into a mystical fantasy land yet kept it well grounded. 

The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Shri B.K. Chaturvedi alongwith the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, Vice Principals, Dr. Renu Nayar and Ms. Padma Srinivasan and the Headmistresses, Ms. Rashmi Malhotra and Ms. Niva Chhonkar.

The scintillating beats of the orchestra welcomed the audience to this illustrious assembly. The soulful rendition brimming with music and rhythm created a lively atmosphere. A video presentation showcasing various milestones achieved by these proficient scholars was screened. 

The Principal along with the Vice Principals felicitated the Chief Guest, Mr. B.K. Chaturvedi.Shri B.K. Chaturvedi is a member of the Delhi Public School Society and the Managing Committee of D.P.S. R.K. Puram. In 2004, he was appointed as the Cabinet Secretary and in this capacity, he advised the Prime Minister on important policy issues. He is also a former member of the Planning Commission of the government of India and he has authored two books and several papers in the field of public administration and governance.He has been conferred with the Padma Bhushan for his valuable contribution to the Civil Services.

The Principal was welcomed on the stage to address the gathering. She commented upon the theme of the event by narrating multiple stories, like that of a vain Butterfly and sensible Cockroach, and deriving from them that humility and modesty are necessary virtues to be possessed by an individual. She reminded the students that “being grounded does not mean you do not have a vision” and urged them to have ambitions and make perpetual efforts to achieve them. On this prestigious occasion, she commemorated Prantik Roy, an able student with extraordinary compassion in whose honour an award was dedicated later in the ceremony. 

She cited an example of Mahatma Gandhi in order to advocate the importance of being practical and down-to-earth while reliving his vision for the nation. She pointed out how there was always scope for improvement, no matter how much we may have conquered. To further elaborate upon the theme, she quoted Martin Luther King by saying, ““If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do ,you have to keep moving forward.” Ms. Vanita Sehgal appreciated the diligent efforts of the Vice Principals, Class Representatives, Activity Incharges Ms. Sudeepta Chatterjee and Ms. Shelly Malhotra and the Music and Dance Departments. 

The Cultural Programme commenced with the melodious voices of the choir in harmony, enlivening the spirit of the theme. The characters of Arabian Nights, Alaadin and his wife, presented a drama to emphasise on how following one’s dreams dreams passionately leads to their fulfillment . Following this brilliant piece of enactment, a thought-provoking  Poem Recitation on achieving a vision that consists of curing social illnesses was showcased while many examples of successful leaders were given through speeches to further highlight the importance of having a telescopic eye while keeping your feet firmly on the ground. A spectacular dance-drama performance was staged to portray the Gandhian vision and its relevance in the present society. 

The Chief Guest congratulated the students, parents and teachers on this joyous occasion. He appreciated the theme of the event and Gandhian message of peace delivered by the students. He emphasised on how academics play a crucial role in a student’s life and took this opportunity to also mention the importance of “good values” like integrity and perseverance. According to him, hard work is essential to achieve success and “there’s no going away from it”. In the end, he urged the students to thrive persistently and wished them the best of luck. 

The Chief Guest, the Principal, the Vice Principals and the Class Representatives felicitated the scholars by presenting badges, blazers, pins, ties and certificates of merit. The Prantik Roy Memorial Gold Medal, for an all-round performance, was awarded to Priyanshi Ahuja. 

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by the Vice Principals, Dr. Renu Nayar and Ms. Padma Srinivasan.The event concluded with the National Anthem.

Topic – Colour of India

भारत विभिन्नताओं में एकता को समेटे हुए है | विभिन्न जाति, भाषा,खानपान,बोली, पहनावा अलग-अलग होते हुए भी हम एकता के अटूट सूत्र में बँधे हुए हैं | इसी भाव से ओत-प्रोत 8 E ने अपनी प्रार्थना सभा का आयोजन अपनी कविता,कथन,प्रार्थना एवं नृत्य के माध्यम से प्रदर्शित करने की कोशिश की है | चाहे कुछ हो सभी का एक भाव, एक मंत्र, एक अर्थ है, ख़ुशी,एकता,अटूट सम्बन्ध,भारत की अटूट क्षमता |

Workshop on POCSO, Gender sensitivity, Poverty and Anti Bullying

To acquaint , sensitise and strengthen students regarding Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO),Awareness about issues related to bullying and poverty Gender Sensitivity an interactive session was conducted for the students of Class VII on November 1st 2019, Friday, by Mrs. Sheetal Chaudhary Pradhan, Judge,Mahila Courts Delhi at Saket Courts complex.

Ms Niva Chhonkar, Headmistress VI-VIII, felicitated Ms Sheetal Chaudhury Pradhan. The Headmistress said that with ‘rights’, the children must not forget their ‘responsibilities’ and the children should avoid unsafe situations and report any such matter immediately to the person with whom the child is comfortable. She asked the students to be sensitive , sympathetic and respectful towards underprivileged and appreciate good qualities in others.

Ms Sheetal started her interesting speech telling that there should be no discrimination between boys and girls. She emphasized on having equal responsibilities for both. She slowly proceeded towards bullying which has become a common issue now. She told the students that they should neither give in to bullying nor be a silent observer. She also focussed on good touch and bad touch. Children were specifically told to speak out and report if ever they felt uncomfortable about any such thing. They were also advised to confide in a person with whom they are comfortable. She also asked the students to avoid eye contact with strangers as cases of hypnotism have been reported.

The programme concluded with a positive note which she made about friendship. Even a single friend in our lives can make the difference. Students were also encouraged to have confidence in themselves
