Teachers Training Programme for Junior Schools of DPS R.K.Puram

A Teachers Training Programme for the Junior Schools of DPS R.K.Puram at Vasant Vihar and East of Kailash was held in DPS R.K.Puram on the 23rd of March 2017. The Principal, Ms Vanita Sehgal welcomed the guests and emphasized the need of teachers being extra sensitive towards the issues related to children. Ms Archana Pental, Headmistress, Vasant Vihar and Ms Dolly Chanana, Headmistress, East of Kailash were also present.

In the first interactive session, ‘Creating a safe, protective environment for children’ the two guest speakers discussed the legal and psychological aspect of POCSO, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Ms Prashanti Pasupuleti , Legal Associate, Supreme Court of India, spoke about the legal framework related to Child abuse and the role of counselling in this regard. She highlighted the key points of the Child Protection Policy and online safety. Dr Vishal Chhabra, Senior Consultant Psychiatrist, Fortis Health Care spoke about indicators of abuse and highlighted the need for educators to be able to identify sudden change of behaviour in children, signs of depression and anxiety.This was followed by a demo on First Aid by Ms Divya Varghese, Clinical Instructor from Fortis Healthcare Team. Techniques as to how to deal with different medical emergency situations like insect bite, poisoning, fracture, electrocution, burn injuries, nose bleeding, choking and Heat stroke were demonstrated.

The next session was on ‘Learning Disabilities and ADHD: Classroom Management’.Ms Mimansa Singh,Clinical Psychologist spoke about different types of disabilities and their indicators. Later, Ms Gunita Kaur suggested simple activities and exercises that improve the concentration and speed-up the learning process. The Programme Incharge was Ms Niva Chhonkar, Coordinator of the Department of Biology.
