Interactive Session on ‘Creating a Safe, Protective Environment for Children

An interactive session on ‘Creating a safe, protective environment for children’ was held in DPS R.K.Puram on the 3rd of March 2017.

Three guest speakers addressed the Teaching and Admin staff. Mrs. Chhaya Sharma,DIG, National Human Rights Commission discussed the salient features and procedures of POCSO, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences.Act She dealt on the vulnerability of children and how due care has to be taken to create a safe environment for them.

Ms. Ms Prashanti Pasupuleti , Legal Associate, Supreme Court of India also spoke about the legal framework related to Child abuse and the role of counseling in this regard. She highlighted the key points of Child Protection Policy and online safety.

Dr Vishal Chhabra, Senior Consultant Psychiatrist, Fortis Health Care spoke about indicators of abuse and highlighted the need for educators to be able to identify sudden change of behaviour in children, signs of depression and anxiety. He discussed the fact that too much information is available to young minds and stressed on the need for filters

An interactive session followed where various queries were handled and discussed by the guest speakers.
