Sway – Inter School Western Dance Competition

On the 10th of December 2016, Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted the Western Dance competition, ‘Sway 2016’ organised by the Western Dance Society for the students of classes 9 to12.

There were two categories in the competition- the group performance (Accent) and the solo performance (Knockout). There were 20 participating schools. The styles of dancing were Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet and Hip-hop. It was judged by Mr Benjamin Jacob and Ms Naomi McCoo. The Guest of Honour for the event was Mr. Rohan Bhargava. All three of them are choreographers at Danceworx, a reputed dance institute. The event began with the felicitation of the judges and guest of honour with a token of regard by our esteemed Vice Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan. This was followed by a video showcasing the achievements of the Western Dance Society of the school. Ms Srinivasan addressed the gathering, wishing all the participants good luck and encouraging them to embrace the spirit of the art they performed. There was a performance by the Western Dance Society, which garnered a lot of appreciation from the audience. Also present at the event were the Vice Principal, Ms Anita Singh, the Headmistress, Ms.Rashmi Malhotra and the Head of the Department of Music and Dance, Mrs.Aditi Sarkar with her team of teachers.

Soon after, the competition began with the Accent category, where the dancers enthusiastically performed in a group. In the next category, i.e. Knockout, there were solo performances. At the end of the event, the judges addressed the gathering, enlightening the participants with valuable feedback and constructive criticism.
For the award ceremony, Ms Anita Singh, the event in charge, Ms Preeti Pratihari; and Ms Vinita Gupta gave away the prizes, while Ms. Sudeepta Chatterjee conducted the ceremony. The First prize in the Knockout category was bagged by The Mother’s International School, while the second prize was awarded to Birla Vidya Niketan. The first prize in the Accent category was also bagged by The Mother’s International School, while Birla Vidya Niketan came second.

The Vice Principal, Ms Anita Singh proposed the vote of thanks and wished the students the very best for the future. All in all, the event was a great success.
