School Safety and Community Awareness Programme on Disaster Management

A School Safety and Community Awareness Programme on Disaster Management was organised by the Department of Geography at Delhi Public School R.K. Puram on 16th April 2026, from 10:20 am to 12:45 pm in the Audio Visual Hall.

The programme was conducted by Mr. Chander Prakash from District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and Mr. Hardeep from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) with their respective teams. The team was welcomed by the esteemed principal Mr. Anil Kumar.

The session was attended by students of Classes VIII and XI, accompanied by around 40 staff members. The primary objective of this initiative was to  raise awareness amongst students and staff members about disaster preparedness, safety measures, and the importance of community engagement in handling emergency situations effectively.

The team conducted live demonstrations and practical sessions, providing valuable knowledge on handling emergencies such as the following:

  • Earthquake preparedness
  • Fire Hazards
  • Rescue and evacuation of the injured 
  • Methods to control bleeding in different parts of the body
  • Rapid casualty assistance using available resources to make a stretcher 

Students showed great enthusiasm and actively participated as volunteers during the demonstrations. The trainers also discussed basic rescue operations and emphasised spreading awareness among family members and the community.

The event was graced by the Vice Principal Mr Naresh Miglani and Incharge (VI-VIII) Ms. Vandana Chandoke. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Sangita Bajpai, Coordinator Department of Geography. 

Overall, the programme was informative, engaging, and highly beneficial, helping students gain essential life-saving skills and awareness about disaster management.
