Online Workshop on Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity Club of DPS R.K. Puram Conducts Online Workshop in Collaboration with Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College

The Cybersecurity Club of DPS R.K. Puram, in collaboration with Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, University of Delhi, recently conducted an enlightening online workshop on cybersecurity. This event was organised under the esteemed guidance of our Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, and the mentorship of the club in-charge, Ms. Sarika Kaushal. The workshop saw active participation from students of DPS R.K. Puram and DDU College.

The workshop commenced with a  welcome speech by Prof. Hem Chand Jain, the officiating Principal of DDU, followed by an address from the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan. The Principal Ms Padma Srinivasan emphasised on the importance of cyber ethics and cybersecurity, stating, “Cybersecurity is no longer just a technical issue but a social and personal responsibility.” She highlighted the increasing sophistication of cyber threats with the rise of technology and stressed the importance of being aware of the risks and consequences. She encouraged students to engage fully, ask questions, and take advantage of the wealth of knowledge available to them.

The workshop featured several esteemed resource persons, including:

  • Dr. Ankit Rajpal, Department of Computer Science, University of Delhi

Dr Rajpal with 12 years of machine learning, explainable AI, watermarking, and data mining skills experience explained how encryption and decryption algorithms scramble and unscramble data to prevent unauthorised access. He also discussed digital signatures, which verify data. This engaging beginning stimulated participants’ curiosity and set the tone for the subsequent days of in-depth exploration.

  • Mr. Anuj Gandhi, Sr. Vice President, IT & Digital, Sterlite Power Transmission Ltd.

Mr Anuj Gandhi, a 20-year IT veteran, covered cybersecurity basics, cyber dangers, and digital platform security best practices. Mr. Gandhi also offered practical cybersecurity tips for people and organisations.

  • Mr. Deepak Virmani, IAS, Director, Indian Cyber Crime Branch Coordination (14C), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India

Mr Virmani covered “Cyber Security Habits to Ensure Personal Security.” Students learned about frequent cyberattacks and their targeting of individuals. He emphasised on the importance of keeping strong passwords and explained account security measures. The other topics discussed by him were Protection of personal information, recognizing phishing efforts online and use of safe social media.

  • Ms. Sumedha Seniaray, Assistant Professor, DTU

Professor Seniaray specialises in Database Management Systems, Data Warehouse, Software Engineering, Operating Systems, and Discrete Mathematics. She gave participants a foundation in cyber security to help them make informed decisions and traverse the digital world safely.

  • Mr. Mukund Agarrwal, Forensic Expert

Mr. Mukul Aggarwal spoke on “Computer Hacking and Forensic Investigation”. As a CBI Visiting Faculty on Banking Frauds and ICAI and ICSI Forensic Auditor, Mr. Aggarwal has a unique set of skills. Mr Aggarwal’s session sought to illuminate hackers’ thinking and forensic investigative methods in this complicated and ever-changing subject.

  • Dr. Praveen Kumar, Assistant Professor at the University School of Management Studies (USMS) at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University

Dr Praveen emphasised on the significance of strong passwords for digital security and the challenges of password management. He discussed the combination of AI with strong password policies for enhanced online security.

Each expert shared their insights and expertise, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of cybersecurity.

The vote of thanks was delivered by the club in-charge, Ms. Sarika Kaushal. She expressed her gratitude to the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan for creating an opportunity for students to enhance their knowledge in Cyber Security and the patrons, Prof. Naveen Kumar and Prof. Hem Chand Jain, for their relentless support and guidance. 

A special mention was given to Prof. Monika Bansal of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College for her invaluable contributions, cooperation, and assistance.

The club incharge also appreciated the hard work and dedication of the core team members: Atharva Singh, Gyanshu Raj, Tanush Jayara, Atharvajeet Singh, and Vidhan. Their tireless efforts, enthusiasm, and commitment were instrumental in the success of this workshop.

The online workshop was a significant step towards fostering a deeper understanding of cybersecurity among students and underscored the importance of cyber ethics in today’s digital age.
