Mathematical Crusade 2026

“Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, or algorithms: it is about understanding.” – William Paul Thurston

On 24 October 2026, MATSOC, the Mathematical Society of Delhi Public School, RK Puram, successfully hosted its Annual Inter-school Mathematics Festival – The Mathematical Crusade 2026. The event was a celebration of mathematical thinking, analytical rigour and creative expression, allowing students from over 25 schools across Delhi-NCR to engage with the beauty and power of Mathematics in innovative formats.

The opening ceremony of the event commenced with an auspicious Ganesh Vandana presented by the school choir. This was followed by an introduction of the judges for the various competitions. Thereafter, a Krishna Vandana was presented that was a beautiful amalgamation of deep devotion, fluid rhythm and artistic grace.

The Mathematical Crusade 2026 featured five competitions, each offering participants from Classes VI to XII an opportunity to showcase their logical reasoning, collaborative spirit and creative problem-solving abilities. The events were as follows:

MODEIL MATHEMATICA: In a dramatic blend of theatre and mathematics, teams of three students brought legendary mathematicians to life through captivating role-plays and scripts. The event demonstrated not only deep mathematical understanding but also teamwork, storytelling and stagecraft. The event witnessed theatrical performances that were not only mesmerising but also informative. The judges for the competition were Ms Aparajita Dasgupta, an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at IIT Delhi and Ms Shriya Mohan, a second-year Engineering student at Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women.

GANIT SE PUNARNIRMAN: It is a game-design competition for Classes VI–VIII that brought together mathematics, creativity and sustainability. Teams of two students were required to design and build an original, playable arcade-style game based on a mathematical concept such as geometry, probability, algebra or logical reasoning. The game also had to incorporate a theme of environment or sustainability and could take the form of a board game, card game or physical tabletop activity. Teams were also required to submit a one-page rulebook explaining how their game works. The event was judged by Mr Debasis Mishra, a professor at the Indian Statistical Institute in Delhi and Mr Arnuv, who served as the Vice President of the Mathematics Society in 2025 and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Financial Investment Analysis at Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Delhi University.

SYMPHONIES OF MATH: This unique musical competition bridged rhythm and reason, allowing participants to express mathematical ideas through songs. Ranging from Pi-themed compositions to poetic tributes to equations, the event highlighted how Mathematics is deeply embedded in the patterns of sound. The event was judged by Dr Bhavneet Kaur, a professor in the Department of Mathematics at the Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi and Ms Arunima Bhaskar, who served as the Head Girl of the school for the year 2025–2026 and is currently a student at Delhi Technological University.

THE DECI-PHERS: A fast-paced mathematical treasure hunt for Classes IX–X that challenged teams of two to put their logic, problem-solving skills and teamwork to the test. The competition began with an online preliminary round featuring maths-based puzzles, with the top six teams advancing to the offline finals. In the final round, teams followed unique colour-coded trails, solving mathematical clues to uncover numbers or coordinates that led them to their next destination. With no digital devices allowed, participants had to think strategically, solve accurately and race against time to reach the final challenge.

PI-O-NEERS QUIZ: In this thrilling contest of wits and speed, teams of two competed in a high-energy quiz that tested their mathematical trivia, logical reasoning and critical thinking. The event began with a competitive preliminary round, after which the top six teams advanced to a nail-biting final, where every second and answer counted. The quiz proved to be a true battle of brains, celebrating the thrill of rapid reasoning and sharp problem-solving.

The valedictory ceremony commenced with the announcement and the felicitation of the winners by the Vice Principal, Mr Anil Kathuria; the Head of the Department, Ms Ritu Nayar; and the senior teachers of the Mathematics Department, who presented them with trophies and certificates in recognition of their outstanding performances. This was followed by an inspiring address by Ms Taruna Didi, the Programme Incharge, who commended all the participants for their enthusiastic involvement and invaluable contribution to the success of the event. She also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the teachers and the organising committee, whose meticulous planning and collaborative spirit ensured the seamless execution of the event.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mr Jagjeet Singh who expressed his sincere appreciation to everyone who had contributed to the event’s success. Emphasising that true achievement extends beyond the outcome of a competition, he remarked that every participant was a winner by virtue of their dedication, perseverance and innovative thinking. The ceremony culminated on a patriotic note with the rendition of the National Anthem.
