Guest Speaker Programme on “India: The Next Superpower? The Role of the Youth in this Endeavour”

Delhi Public School R.K. Puram hosted a Guest Speaker Programme on the topic “India: The Next Superpower? The Role of the Youth in this Endeavour” on the 7th June 2021 for students of Classes VI to XII.

Mr. Ishan Bakshi, the guest speaker, is currently Deputy Associate Editor at The Indian Express where he is part of the Editorial and Opinions Team. He is an Alumni of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram and he pursued his Bachelors in Economics from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi. He also holds a Doctorate in Economics from IIT. He has previously worked as a research scholar at the National Council for Applied Economics Research, India’s premier Economic Policy Think Tank. 

Ms. Padma Srinivasan, Principal, Dr Renu Nayar, Vice Principal, Class Representatives  Teachers and students of classes VI-XII attended the session. While addressing the audience, the Principal Ms Padma Srinivasan ,emphasised upon the importance of such programs to inspire and enable the students to be the torchbearers of India’s future growth.

The compères, Mridul Malani and Saanvi Sekhri, began the Guest Speaker Programme by cheerfully welcoming all attendees. This was followed by a brief presentation by Mr. Ishan Bakshi which included a statistical analysis regarding the population, the economy, and several other parameters like Mobile Penetration, Development of Roads, and Household Electricity to give students an understanding of India’s growth trajectory as well as its comparison with other countries. 

This was followed by the Question and Answer session conducted by Aarushi Gupta and Aditya Mathur where Mr Bakshi answered questions asked by students. While answering the questions, Mr Bakshi also highlighted Coronavirus’ adverse impact on the projected growth and the possible set back it could have on India’s aspirations of being a superpower. 

The session  concluded with a vote of thanks by the Vice Principal Dr Renu Nayyar.. The programme was organised by Ms. Shelly Malhotra and Mrs. Archna Deepak with  technical support from Mr Mukesh Kumar and his team.
