Grade VI-VII Online Guest Speaker Programme – Waste Management

Grade VI-VII Online Guest Speaker Programme – Waste Management

11 January 2023

With a view to sensitise the students towards the rising problems due to high build-up of waste and its impact on the immediate and global environment, DPS R.K. Puram organised an online guest speaker programme on ‘Waste Management’. This was conducted on 11 January 2023 for Grade VI and VII students. The programme was a great learning opportunity provided to us under the aegis of our Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan. It was well supported by our Headmistress, Ms. Vinita Gupta and our Reps, Ms. Divya Kapoor and Ms. Aastha Bablani.

Working religiously for the same cause, the speakers were Ms Malini Parmar and Ms Sonia Chopra and Ms. Bhavna Bhargava from a Bangalore-based organisation –  ‘Stonesoup.in’ which works towards spreading awareness about reduction of waste and helping everyone to adopt a zero waste lifestyle. It also aims to make sustainable living easy while creating employment for women.

Students of Grade VI were fortunate to be guided effectively to adapt to the various ways for smart handling of waste which includes processing and recycling as per the latest technology. The session included detailed information about the harmful effects of single use plastic, chemicals and other daily use products which have an adverse effect on the environment. The speakers also enlightened the audience about the ignorant behaviour and practices that cause such a global destruction. They shared an informative presentation on healthy and sustainable alternatives to help waste management.

The session was interactive, educational and insightful. After the presentation, the students were allowed to ask questions to the speakers. The speakers patiently answered the questions and appreciated them for showing great interest in the cause.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks to Ms. Parmar, Ms. Chopra and Ms. Bhargava who helped the students understand about the burning issues of our times and what they can do to curb them. The thought provoking ideas shared by the students and encouragement by the speakers made this session a grand success.
