Tetr College of Business Partners with DPS R.K. Puram to Launch Global Entrepreneurship Challenge – Tetr Disrupt

Tetr College of Business hosted the India edition of round one of its highly anticipated Global Entrepreneurship Challenge, Tetr Disrupt, in partnership with DPS R.K. Puram on 11 January 2025. Tetr College of Business is a global B-school where students from around the world learn business by building business across 7 countries: USA, Italy, Singapore, Brazil, UAE, India, and Ghana.Tetr Disrupt is an international competition for high school students where the world’s brightest young minds from 25 countries come together to tackle the most pressing global challenges and create innovative solutions for a better tomorrow, along with a chance to raise $100K in funding to bring their idea to life.

The first round in Delhi brought together over 20 teams of teen entrepreneurs tasked with creating innovative business pitches under the theme “Future Forward – Building for a Better Tomorrow.”

Six global students from Tetr’s current undergraduate cohort mentored the teams, offering their entrepreneurial expertise to help refine strategies and presentations. Professor Alok Srivastava (IIT Delhi, IIM Calcutta) served as the event’s exclusive industry mentor, providing invaluable guidance to participants.

The teams presented groundbreaking solutions to key global challenges, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and social impact. The event concluded with five finalist teams pitching their ideas, with the winning team receiving a $1,000 cash prize and tickets to the global finale.

One of the event’s key highlights was the immersive space, showcasing seven distinct zones inspired by the countries where Tetr students study during their four-year journey. These interactive areas allowed students to engage in gamified activities across themes such as Finance, Fundraising, Carbon Footprint, and Hospitality, sharpening their business skills.

Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Vice Principal of DPS R.K. Puram attended the event and delivered an inspiring speech, encouraging students to recognize their potential as future change-makers.

Malvika Khajuria, Director of Partnerships and Growth at Tetr College of Business, shared her excitement, saying, “The ideas shared by these students have been truly inspiring. Their solutions for issues like air pollution, energy-saving blockchains, and water recycling have filled me with optimism. It’s clear that the next generation of innovators is ready to make a real impact.”

Over the next 3 months, Tetr Disrupt will expand to 24 other cities globally, where current winners and finalists advancing to the global finale will compete for up to $100K in funding and $5 million in scholarships to Tetr. These teams will also receive mentorship from global industry leaders as they refine their business models.

Tetr Disrupt represents a major step in fostering global entrepreneurship and empowering the next generation to create sustainable solutions for the future.

Interactive Session with TOI: Surveying the NIE Children’s Newspaper

The Times of India (TOI) conducted an interactive session at DPS RK PURAM on 20 December 2024 to gather feedback on their NIE Children’s Newspaper. The session aimed to understand student preferences, suggestions, and areas of improvement for making the newspaper more engaging and informative for young readers.

The TOI representatives elicited responses from students on varied topics in order to understand the relevance of the content in the newspaper and the interest level among students. Many students shared their views on the articles published, offering suggestions for making them more relatable and student-focused.

In addition to the articles, the session also addressed the visual appeal of the newspaper. Students were asked for feedback on the images accompanying the articles, the layout, and the size of the text. The representatives also proposed adding new sections to cater to diverse interests. Some of the ideas floated included:

  1. Sports Zone – Updates and fun facts about popular sports and athletes.
  2. Tech Trends – Introducing young readers to new technologies and innovations.
  3. Creative Corner – A space for students to submit their own stories, poems, or artwork.
  4. Career Guidance – Short articles on different career options and skills required.

Students enthusiastically participated in the discussion, with several expressing their excitement about these potential additions. Suggestions to add a ‘Student Spotlight’ section, featuring achievements of young readers, and a ‘Puzzle and Games’ page were also made.

The interactive session was not only a platform for feedback but also an engaging discussion about the importance of journalism in shaping young minds. TOI’s efforts to involve students in this initiative demonstrate their commitment to creating a newspaper that is truly for and by the youth. The survey results and suggestions will undoubtedly help the NIE Children’s Newspaper evolve into a publication that informs, inspires, and entertains.

DPS RK Puram wins ‘Outstanding Project Award’ at the 31st National Children’s Science Congress

The National Children’s Science Congress was organised by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The 31st National Children’s Science Congress was held from 3-6 January 2025 at Bhopal. It was hosted by the MP Council of Science & Technology (MPCST). The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated the 31st National Children’s Science Congress at the Ravindra Bhawan in Bhopal, on 3rd January 2025.

Prof. Abhay Karandikar,Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Mr Anurag Jain,  Chief Secretary, Government of Madhya Pradesh and Dr. Suhas Joshi, Director, IIT Indore were also present during the inauguration ceremony. A video message was sent by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of Science and Technology, Govt. of India.

Under the mentorship of Ms. Niva Chhonkar, Head-Biology, the research journey started in 2023, for Nanya Gupta and Aavya Shrivastava of Class IX M  who worked in the Zoology Lab, Sri Venkateswara College and DPS RK Puram ,Biology Lab. They  cleared the Zonal, District and State level and the journey culminated with Nanya Gupta, the team leader representing the Delhi State as a part of a team with students from 7 other schools. The project was presented in front of eminent judges and judged as one of the 20   ‘Outstanding Project’ out of the 648 projects that were presented by the students from the different states of India.

The Research Project was based on the two simple queries  of the student that led to a series of experiments resulting in a series of amazing findings. The queries were ‘Why do dogs eat away lantana plants from my garden and how can I protect sprouted grains from microbial attack and increase shelf life without using synthetic chemicals?

Lantana plant has been of great interest for phytochemical, biological and pharmacological studies. It was to be confirmed that Lantana leaves which  have a strong smell, may have antimicrobial activity  that is why dogs eat them when they are unwell. Lantana is also identified as an invasive variety of weed  in Delhi that has infested 30% of the Delhi ridge area. If the substance / metabolite in the lantana has some medicinal value then this substance can be purified on a commercial scale and used as medicine and on the other hand we can utilize this invasive shrub.

The experiment consisted of 2 phases.First to make leaf extract of Lantana and assess its antimicrobial properties on the  bacteria and compare with the already established antimicrobial properties of Neem and Tulsi. Secondly, depending upon the results from the first phase, create Herbal Sanitizing Wraps using Neem,Tulsi and Lantana for growing sprouts. The most common bacteria, E.coli was used for the studies as its doubling time is 20 minutes so it grows faster..Common fungi- Rhizopus (Bread Mold) and Aspergillus (found as black powder on onions these days) was also grown.

Different concentrations of leaf extracts were used to test the bacterial growth inhibition.Bacterial Growth Inhibition was studied in two ways.

After Data Analysis it was interpreted that Lantana has a substance/chemical that inhibits bacterial growth.Surprisingly contrary to our belief,Tulsi was more effective  in inhibiting E.coli  growth than Neem.
