On 19th December 2016, an awareness programme on ‘Air pollution in Delhi’ was organised by AIIMS and Venkateshwara College for the students of Class VI.
Dr. Randeep Guleria, Padma Shri awardee and Head of Pulmonology Department at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) was welcomed by the Vice Principal, Ms Anita Singh. Dr.Guleria interacted with the students and spoke about the different types of air pollutants (PM 10 microns and PM 2.5 microns), smog and fog,sources of indoor pollution,target organs and how one can identify the symptoms caused due to air pollution.
Dr. P. Hemalatha Reddy, the Principal of Venkateshwara College elaborated on the upcoming International Event ‘Encon’ and invited the students to this event.Students of Venkateshwara College organised an Environment Quiz. Dr.Vartika Mathur spoke about the causes of Air pollution in Delhi and what the role of students is in controlling it.A movie by Mike Pandey on water pollution was screened. Booklets on Air pollution and green Acts were distributed to the students.
Dr. Surya Prakash proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was coordinated by Ms Niva Chhonkar, the Coordinator of the Department of Biology.
