Annual Inter-School Art and Performing Arts Festival
Delhi Public School R.K. Puram hosted Abhivyakti 2026, the annual inter-school Art and Performing Arts Festival, on Saturday, 3 October 2026, bringing together young artists and performers from 15 schools in a vibrant celebration of creativity, culture and self-expression.
The event provided students with a platform to showcase their talent across music, dance and visual arts while exploring the richness of Indian traditions alongside contemporary forms of expression. The competitions were organised across different categories, encouraging students to interpret themes creatively and present their ideas with confidence.
As a part of ‘Vibrant India – Celebrating Our Parampara’, an art competition was organised across three categories, celebrating India’s rich artistic heritage while encouraging students to connect traditional art forms with contemporary perspectives. Students of Classes VI–VIII explored ‘Learn the Stories’ through the traditional art style of Kalamkari, while Classes IX–X interpreted ‘Learn the Values’ through Pattachitra. The senior category focused on ‘Traditional Values in Contemporary Life’, using the distinctive visual language of miniature painting to reflect the relevance of Indian traditions in the modern world.
The competitions were adjudicated by an eminent panel comprising Ms Shashi Mathur, a Fine Arts educator with 37 years of experience; Mr Pankaj Guru, an internationally exhibited sculptor with commissioned monumental works across prominent public institutions in India; and Ms Hena Chakraborty, former curator, restorer and senior artist at Gandhi Smriti & Darshan Samiti, Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Their expertise enriched the competition and inspired students to explore the enduring relevance of India’s artistic traditions.
Swar Tarang, the Inter-School Solo Song Competition, provided participants an opportunity to showcase their command over Indian vocal music and expression. It was adjudicated by Mr Vivek Bhola, Guru at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and Shri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, and Mr Vivek Budgali, Singer-Composer, Music Educator and Sangeet Prabhakar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti.
Resonance, the Inter-School Western Song Competition, featured both solo and group performances. The competition was judged by Mr Ashwani Verma, founder member of the alternative rock band Orange Street, and Ms Jyotsna Laroiya, Producer and Performer associated with Neemrana Music Foundation and various Broadway productions.
Nritya Sangam, the Inter-School Solo Classical Dance Competition, celebrated the richness of Indian classical dance. The panel comprised Ms Vadalamani Saradyuthi, a Bharatanatyam dancer with extensive training under Guru Smt Kanaka Sudhakar, and Ms Ankita Dutta, a Kathak dancer and Grade A artist at Delhi Doordarshan Kendra who has conducted international workshops through ICCR.
The Valedictory Ceremony began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the esteemed Chief Guest, Mr Vineet Malhotra, an alumnus of DelhiI Public School RK Puram and a senior journalist with over two decades of experience in the mainstream media who is currently working as a Senior Consulting Editor at NewsX. Mr Malhotra has hosted the first season of the Indian Premier League, the Commonwealth Games, the Olympics and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, 2015 and 2019. He is also the first Indian journalist to receive the prestigious People’s Award for International Media at the House of Commons in London, UK.
This was followed by a melodious presentation by the Western choir, which set a warm and celebratory tone for the occasion. A graceful solo classical dance performance added an elegant cultural dimension to the proceedings.
The Vice Principal, Ms Rashmi Malhotra, addressed the gathering, welcoming the Chief Guest, Mr Vineet Malhotra, along with Mrs Namrata Malhotra and the esteemed panel of judges. She acknowledged the enthusiastic participation and dedicated efforts of the students, teachers, judges and the participating schools, and appreciated the collaborative spirit that contributed to the success of the festival.
Thereafter, an evocative Indian solo vocal performance was presented, which further enriched the cultural experience. The audience was then treated to glimpses of the various events, offering a visual recollection of the enthusiasm, creativity and memorable moments that marked the festival.
The Chief Guest, Mr Vineet Malhotra, addressed the gathering, expressing his appreciation for the students and the school’s efforts in providing meaningful platforms for talent, creativity and holistic growth. Reflecting on his own journey, he shared how surreal and special it felt to return to his alma mater, this time as a parent whose children study at the school. He emphasised that excellence, irrespective of the field, is a pathway to success and urged students to value and learn from their teachers. Fondly reminiscing about his own school days, he concluded by expressing his heartfelt gratitude to the school management and faculty for the honour of inviting him to the occasion.
The highlight of the ceremony was the award ceremony, where students and participants were felicitated for their outstanding performances and achievements across the various events. The ceremony concluded with the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, school leadership, teachers, participants, organisers and all those whose collective efforts contributed to the success of Abhivyakti 2026.
