Saumya Umashankar, a student of Class 12-B of DPS R.K. Puram, while working at the CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi under the mentorship of Dr. R.K. Kotnala, Chief Scientist, NPL, developed a new product – a resistive type humidity sensor fabricated from porous magnesium ferrite pellet. The Humidity Sensor, a new invention, has several advantages over the conventional capacitative type sensor. It is more precise and reliable, possesses thermal stability and is less expensive. The humidity sensor has several applications in the home appliances industry viz air conditioner, microwave oven, high voltage equipment manufacturing and semi conductor industries where precision humidity controlled environment is essential besides agricultural product processing and food packaging.
An Indian patent has been obtained and a U.S. patent has been applied for the invention.
