9TH INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA

Delhi Public School RK Puram celebrated the 9th International Day of Yoga (IDY)  on 21st June 2023.Yoga is an integral part of our cultural and spiritual heritage.It is a 5,000-year old tradition from India that combines physical, mental and spiritual pursuits to achieve harmony of the body and mind. On December 11 in 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga. The declaration came at the behest of the Indian Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi during his address to the UN General Assembly on September 27, 2014 wherein he stated: “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature”. In suggesting June 21, which is the Summer Solstice, as the International Day of Yoga, Mr Narendra Modi had said: “the date is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world.” This year the theme of the Yoga day is Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbaka effectively encapsulating our collective aspiration for ‘One Earth, One Family, and One Future.’

Students of Delhi Public School RK Puram took an oath to integrate yoga into their lives to achieve a sound body and mind.Under the able guidance of the Principal Ms Padma Srinivasan. The Vice Principal Mr Anil Kathuria and Mr Suresh, Head of the Physical Education department took the oath with the students which said,“I take a pledge to integrate yoga in my life by practising yoga regularly with my family and friends also encouraging them to adopt yoga for a healthy lifestyle. I take a pledge that I will practice yoga only under trained and knowledgeable Yoga teachers recognised by reputed and registered institutions.”
