Echoes Naad-Ninaad 2019

Echoes Naad-Ninaad 2019, the Annual Inter School Performing Arts Competition organized by the Performing Arts Society of Delhi Public School R K Puram was held on 27 April 2019 and sponsored by Manya – Princeton Review, Pearl Academy.  

Spanning over a period of two days. the event saw the  participation of about 50 schools with over 900 participants taking part  in 6 different competitions – Nritya Abhinaya (Indian Dance), Sway (Western Dance), Swargdeep (Indian Instrumental), Dynamics (Western Band and Group Song) and Swartarang (Indian Group Song).

 

Dynamics (Western Band Performance), saw a fusion of jazz melodies, heart-pumping rock and symphonical country music. The judges for the event were Mr.Shivam Sharma, a member of the Delhi Chamber Choir and Mr. Gaurav Vohra, associated with the Ao Naga Choir and The Capital City MInstrels.

 

Swartarang (Indian Music) was a spectacular amalgamation of diverse music forms with idiosyncratic performances united by themes of either Qawwali or Sufi – Folk. The notes of the heartwarming vocals, the beats of dholaks and chiming harmoniums gently tugged at the heartstrings of the spellbound audience. The esteemed judges included Mr Sankumay Debnath, an artist for the All India Radio, Kolkata, and Ms Harneet Kaur, the HOD of the Music Department at Mata Gujri Public School, GK-1.

 

The ghungroos accentuated the rhythmic aspects of the dance and resonated in the hall where Nritya Abhinaya (Indian Classical Dance) was held. The programme showcased various classical dance forms. The performances captured the hearts of the audience enthralling them by the movement of their choreography. The event was judged by Mr. Kapil Sharma and Ms. Vidha Lal,

 

The Valedictory functions began with the welcome address by the Headmistress, Ms. Rashmi Malhotra followed by a captivating  video presentation of the event after which  the performances of DPS Faridabad( Indian Vocal) and DPS Mathura Road ( Indian Classical) were put up. The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, addressed the audience. She began by complementing the children on their dancing and emphasised the importance of a perfect blend of academics with the fine arts for the sound growth of a student. She congratulated the participating schools and the event organisers for working tirelessly to make the event a great success. On a final note, she concluded by saying that everything one does in life needs art and thanked the children for making life beautiful.  

 

Prizes were distributed by the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, the Headmistress, Ms. Rashmi Malhotra, the Head of Department, Music, Ms. Renu Bassi.

Ms. Renu Bassi proposed the vote of thanks and wished the students a successful future. The event was a huge success and concluded with the National Anthem.

 

DAY 2

 

The second day of Echoes Naad-Ninaad 2019, held on 28 April, celebrated the significance of culture and art through a myriad of music and dance performances. The events included Sway (Western Dance Performance), Swargdeep (Indian Orchestra) and Dynamics (Group Song), all of which were presented with fervent ardour.

 

Sway (Western Dance Performance) saw the participation of 30 schools, all of which staged their performances dressed in vibrant costumes with passion and emotion flowing through adroit dancers. The judges of the event were Ms. Ayushi Pathania and Mr. Manas Yellapantela; both eminent dancers and choreographers The Danceworx. Mr Pankaj Guglani also graced the event with his august presence.  

 

Swargdeep (Indian Orchestra) offered to the audience a coalescence of pleasing instruments and euphonious singers exhibiting the rich and diverse cultural heritage of our country. The judges for the event were Dr. Kumar Rishitosh, Music Department, Delhi University and Pandit Dr. Ravi Sharma, Head of Department, MD University, Rohtak.

 

Dynamics (Western Vocal) saw bands from various schools give mesmerizing performances and left the audience awestruck. The judges of the event were Miss Vaibhavi Singh, member of the Delhi Chamber Choir; Mr Umesh Bisht, who is associated with the Delhi Chamber Choir and the Neemrana foundation choir.

 

The winning teams of Sway and Dynamics put up performances following which The Western Dance Society of the school put up a dance showcasing a plethora of dance forms

 

The Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal addressed the gathering at the Valedictory function saying performing arts are known to be popular all over the world because they transcend all language barriers. Although not everyone understands all languages, the passion for rhythm and beats is shared by all. She also mentioned that CBSE had made it mandatory for schools to have Performing Arts as an essential component of the curriculum.  The Principal emphasized on the universality of the appreciation of music and dance, by recounting anecdotes from her past. She remembered an incident where she presented a dance performance along with the group of youngsters. She wondered where she found the courage to do so, and concluded that perhaps somewhere inside, we all yearn to express ourselves through performing arts. She expressed her admiration for the children who take every opportunity to showcase their talents to the world and urged the students to believe that they have the power to make others happy.

 

“There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone, the light remains.” She went on to honour the memory of Swargdeep, a student who had passed away nearly 4 years ago. The Annual Swargdeep Indian Instrumental competition is held in his memoriam. She also felicitated his parents.

 

The Vice Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, thanked all the participating schools and the organisers of the various events. She expressed her pleasure in watching the zealous performances and felt incredible pride to be in attendance of such talented participants. She hoped that all children learnt to compete in a healthy way, to imbibe that we are all winners, and encouraged them to learn from each other.

 

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal; the Headmistress, Ms. Padma Srinivasan and was conducted by Ms. Shelly Malhotra and Ms. Renu Bassi. The Principal invited the parents of Swargdeep to distribute the awards of the competition held to commemorate his memory.
