Inter-School Humanities & Performing Arts Fest 2023

  “The object of art is to give life shape” – William Shakespeare 

 

Delhi Public School R.K. Puram  organised the Inter-School Humanities and Performing Arts Fest on Saturday, 12 August 2023. The overall theme of the event was the G-20 summit motto – Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, a Sanskrit phrase meaning ‘The World is One Family’.

 

The vibrant event, joined by various schools, celebrated the rich forms of human expression through a diverse range of cultural exhibitions such as dance, moot court, orchestra performances, vocal renditions, poster making and tableaus of various countries around the world. It gave students an opportunity to delve into thought-provoking discussions and provided a platform to express themselves through various art forms. 

 

The fest consisted of six events: Nritya Sangam, ‘Mile Sur Mera Tumhara’ – a patriotic choir, ‘Vasudha Ke Vividh Rang, Sanskriti ke Sung’ – a tableau, Kalakriti: Poster Making Competition, Legal Labyrinth- Moot Court Simulation, and Tune & Beats- an instrumental ensemble.

 

Nritya Sangam was a group dance competition where the participating teams consisting of six to eight members presented folk dances from across the world. The judges, Mr. Shashidharan Nair and Ms. Papiha Desai evaluated the performances on the basis of rhythm, originality, expressions and choreography.

 

Mile Sur Mera Tumhara was a choir competition on patriotic themes. Each team had eight members. The participants were evaluated on the basis of modulation, harmony and dynamics. The judges for the event were Mr. Shamim Khudayar and Mr. Rahul Harit

 

In the event Vasudha ke Vividh Rang, Sanskriti ke Sung, teams taking part had to create a 3-D tableau depicting the physiography, natural vegetation, wildlife, and attire unique to their assigned country. They were assessed on the basis of presentation, creativity and adherence to the time limit by judges Dr. Ashish Ranjan and Dr. Abhishek Priyadarshi.

 

Kalakriti was an event which brought out the artistic side of the participants. It was a poster making competition for students of class XI & XII based on the theme ‘When we heal the Earth, we heal ourselves’. The judging criteria for the following was the artistic skills, psychological and sociological relevance, creativity, and originality. The judges for the following event were Ms. Nikita Nagar and Mr. Ajay Kumar Samir.

 

Legal Labyrinth was an event to look out for, simply because it had everything a thrilling court battle has to it. The participants were given a fictional problem accompanied by relevant information. They were evaluated by judges Ms. Meghna Mishra and Ms. Rachna Sawhney on the basis of comprehension, strength of case, precedents used, usage of legal concepts, oratory skills, and rebuttal proceedings.

 

The last event, Tunes and Beats, filled the air with newfound enthusiasm by showcasing melodic orchestral tunes. The teams had about eight to ten members, playing both western and Indian instruments. The esteemed judges Mr. Dominic Paul and Mr. Lalit Kumar decided the winners on the basis of tuning, synchronisation, rhythm and overall presentation of the teams. The events took place simultaneously at different venues of the school. 

 

In the valedictory ceremony, the Principal Ms. Padma Srinivasan addressed the gathering by saying that students who participated in this mega-event were all winners, as performing in front of such a large crowd was a victory in itself. The winning performances were showcased in the AVH to rousing applause. The winners were announced, and were felicitated on stage. DPS Faridabad emerged as the overall winner.

The investiture ceremony of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram was held on Thursday, 10th  August 2023. The Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, Chief Guest, Mr. VK Shunglu, along with the Vice-Principals and the Headmistresses conducted the inaugural lamp lighting ceremony. This was followed by a captivating performance by the Western Choir, providing a harmonious start to the event. 

A heartening moment followed as the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan felicitated the esteemed Chief Guest. The Principal’s address followed and she encouraged the students to cherish their duties, upholding the school’s ethics. She emphasised on how the posts are not mere positions but also responsibilities. 

The curtain rose on the rendition of Bernard Shaw’s play, Pygmalion, performed by the members of the Expressions Theatre Club. The play emphasised on the essence of determination and communication and gave us a glimpse into the representation of these values, receiving a standing ovation from the audience.

The vibrant play was followed by the much awaited award ceremony, lauding the school appointments. Badges were awarded to the Student Council members of classes VI to XI, followed by the class XII council comprising the Head Boys, Head Girls and Presidents of the Student Council. 

The Chairman administered the oath of office to the new appointees, pledging them to serve the school before themselves and take up responsibilities selflessly, with passion and discipline. Subsequently, the chairman addressed the students, expressing how DPS RK Puram is a closely-knit family, one which never ceases to provide, and adapts to the continuous responsibilities that come its way.

The address was followed by the speeches from the newly elected student council. The council harnessed the power of communication to share their experience on the path towards leadership, and the core values of a leader. 

The Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, in her concluding address, brought the audience’s attention to the minute details that made the ceremony a success. The Vice Principal, Mr. Mukesh Kumar, congratulated the student leaders and proposed the vote of thanks, extending his gratitude to each member of the organising committee. The event came to a close with the school anthem, followed by the national anthem.

MATRIX ECOMM PSYNAPSE – INTER-SCHOOL EVENT

Commerce and Economics students of Classes XI and XII participated in the Inter-school event ‘MATRIX ECOMM PSYNAPSE’23’ hosted by Mount St. Mary, Delhi Cantt on Thursday, 10th August, 2023.

TRIP TO NATIONAL MUSEUM (CLASS IX)

The school organised a visit to the National Museum for Class IX students on 1st, 2nd,3rd, 8th, 9th 10th and 11th August, 2023. The students of class IX paid a visit to this centre with the permission and guidance of Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, facilitated by the Headmistress of Classes IX-X, Ms. Rashmi Malhotra The National Museum in New Delhi stands as a testament to India’s rich and varied history. The artefacts and exhibits on display offer a glimpse into the country’s cultural, artistic, and historical evolution. The museum serves as an important platform for preserving and promoting India’s heritage, and I left with a deeper appreciation for the nation’s past.

Class X Visit to the Gandhi Smriti

Students of class X visited the Gandhi Smriti. The visits began 8 August 2023 onwards. Gandhi Smriti, formerly known as Birla House or Birla Bhavan, is a museum dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. Students were amazed by the majestic grandeur of the Birla house and the plush greenery of the location. Students were delighted to see the extensive use of international and national artwork to present Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy. The students loved the way Mahatma Gandhi’s life was presented through exceptionally well-crafted dolls. A three minute animated movie  was also played to enlighten the students about Mahatma Gandhi’s martyrdom. The visit culminated with a group photo near the ‘gong of peace’. It was an educational and informative trip.

ECONFLUENCE 2023

The Economics and Consumer Club of Delhi Public School, Mathura Road conducted its 23rd Annual Economics Fest –‘Econfluence 2023’ (estd. 2001). The following events were conducted in the school premises on 9th August 2023:

Theatron 2023

Delhi Public School R.K. Puram hosted the Theatron, one of the most renowned inter-school theatrical events, conducted by the Expressions Theatre Club, on Saturday, 5 August 2023. The event consisted of 11 sub-events in total for students of classes 9th to 12th.

 

This year, the event saw overwhelming participation from a large number of schools that brought raw talent and healthy competition to the table. 

 

The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan and Vice Principals. They were accompanied by the judges of the events and the teacher-in-charge, Ms. Sanya Taneja. 


The Chief Guest, Mr. Harinder Sikka, a renowned author and ex-Naval Officer, graced the occasion with his benign presence. He has authored the book ‘Calling Sehmat’ that formed the basis of the famous movie, ‘Raazi’. His illustrious achievements inspired all the theatre enthusiasts to achieve their dreams.


Theatron offered a plethora of sub-events to the passionate young thespians.

 

Nukkad Ki Goonj was an energetic portrayal of street plays on various socially pressing topics. The participants, with the use of props and musical instruments, gave enthralling performances. The judges, Mr. Sahil and Mr. Prabhakar, evaluated each performance on the basis of voice modulation, creativity, expressions, and body language, and went on to impart valuable advice to the participants.

 

Stage-A-Thon, was a series of dramatic stage plays that enhanced the theatrical ambience of the event. Taking topics of deep introspection in both English and Hindi, participants presented touching stories. The plays were evaluated by Ms. Averi Chaurey and Mr. Sanjeev Johri, based on the interpretation of the topic, creativity, originality, plot, and expression.

 

Ads-Act, a commercial event, brought forth the strategies and planning that go into advertising. The participants used relatable, domestic plotlines to engage viewers and enhance the appeal of fictional products. The judges, Ms. Swati Singh and Mr. Purusharth Budhiraja, presided over this event and selected the winners based on content and product descriptions, expressions, creativity, and delivery.

 

Thespian Coliseum, the Shakespeare monologue/soliloquy, showcased the undying legacy of Shakespeare through the powerful essence of the characters. The monologues with clever and bold individualism were judged by Dr. Payal Nagpal and Dr. Poonam Trivedi. The audience was left awestruck.

 

Play-O-Poem, a theatrical enactment of poetry, gave participants a platform to display their poetic and dramatic prowess, with the choice of utilising acclaimed poetry or self-composed works in English, Hindi or through a bilingual medium. Students were then judged on the basis of their voice modulation, creativity, and execution. The judges for this event were Mr Ashutosh and Ms Nayana Sagar.

 

Lights, Camera, Action!, the movie making event, was conducted online. Teams were expected to submit their short film online by 31st July 2023. The films depicted stories of vices and their opposing virtues, candidly expressing human nature, in English, Hindi, or bilingually. The judges for this event were Mr. Tom Keller and Ms. Charu Sanan.

 

मूकाभिनय-Mime Act – With painted faces and black attire, the students conveyed the seven chakras: Muladhara (fear), Swadhisthana (anger), Manipura (happiness), Anahata (pain), Vishuddha (freedom), Ajna (surprise), Sahasrara (spiritual peace), through silent gestures, exemplifying the notion, ‘Actions speak louder than words’. The judges for this event were Ms. Shikha Rajpal and Mr. Manil.

 

Stand-up Comedy harnessed the art of making people laugh through witty commentary and creative remarks on various topics. Despite comedy being a tough skill to master, participants brought forth great confidence and comic timing to liven the audience. The judges, Mr. Chirag and Ms. Jyotika Singhal, evaluated the comedians on the basis of their humour, originality and expression. 

 

Dance Drama approached storytelling through the aesthetics of various Indian and Western Dance forms, captivating the audience with the emotions that vibrated through each thrum of the music. The deep and complex emotions were conveyed to the audience through every movement. Stories were woven with the nine threads of emotion, the Navarasa (rasa-emotional state of mind). The judges, Ms Anu Rawal and Ms Somya, presided over the event.

 

RES IPSA LOQUITUR, the Courtroom Drama, classrooms took the form of courtrooms at the juxtaposition of theatrical art and legal jargon, the participants brought depictions of pressing social issues by stepping into the shoes of lawyers, judges, criminals and victims. Teams were judged on the basis of their originality, factual accuracy, stage presence, and dramatic abilities. The judges for this event were Ms Puneet Sikka and Ms. Kanchan Chetal.

 

Bolt from the Blue, the surprise event, was a unique event that combined spontaneous thinking with creativity to present humorous plays depicting the mundane aspects of life through a fresh perspective. Decked in black-and-white clothing, the participants brought vibrant colour to the stage, with just 3 minutes to prepare. The judges for this event were Ms Sameera Mehta and Mr Saurav Padhi.

 

The events took place simultaneously at different venues of the school, like the AVH, Seminar Room, D-block and OAT, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

 

The valedictory ceremony commenced with our Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, felicitating the chief guest, Mr. Harinder Sikka, and the judges, which was followed by a short speech by her emphasising on the efforts made by all the participants and members of the Expressions Theatre Club in organising and facilitating the event. The Chief Guest, Mr. Sikka, addressed the gathering and shared his views on being passionate and true to one’s duties towards the nation. He also shared his journey as an artist, and emphasised on the importance of overcoming challenges to achieve one’s goals. 


Following his inspirational speech, Ms. Sanya Taneja announced the winners who were awarded trophies and certificates by the principal, the chief guest and the respective event judges. The grand ceremony came to an end with a vote of thanks by the teacher-in-charge of the Expressions Theatre Club, Ms. Sanya Taneja. 


The ceremony concluded on a patriotic note, with the singing of the National Anthem.

Assembly XI-C & XI-D (02-08-2023)

TOPIC – “TRUST YOUR HOPES NOT YOUR FEARS”

On Wednesday, the 2nd of August 2023, the students of classes XI-C and XI-D presented their class assembly on the topic – ‘TRUST YOUR HOPES NOT YOUR FEARS.’ Hope is defined as “a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen”.Martin Luther King Jr. rightly said “ we must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope”.

The assembly commenced with a melodious prayer “Ye mat kaho khuda se” sung by Ishaanvi, Ria Upadhyay, Pia, Navya Medak, Sukeerat Kaur, Tamim, Kaavya Mehta, Vatsal, Sharanya, Rida and Saumya. This was followed by a Ganesh vandana performance by Tanishqa.

The news was presented by Prithvi, Aakarsh, Vaishanvi and Ishita, and the thought for the day by Anupam and Riya. Next, was a self composed poem by Abhineeth and Navya. Words have the power to enlighten the soul, transform lives, open great minds and enthuse ethics which would last a lifetime. Keeping these thoughts in mind, a speech was given by Abhineeth, Vatsal Meeran, Arunima Dixit and Kanak. Meaning of hope was interpreted using a skit which was performed by Mishaa, Abhineeth, Kashika, Manas and Harikrishna.

To make skit more energetic a beautiful song was sung by Ishanvi, Pia, Ria Udhayay, Arunima Dixit, Arunima Sharma, Tamim, Sukeerat and the guitar was played by Gauri Bansal, Vatsal and Anupam. Skit was further energized by a dance performance from Ifra, Mannat, Areen and Sukeerat. To end the assembly on a high positive note, the song “Dil hai chota sa choti si asha” was sung by Ishanvi, Tamim, Tamim and Vatsal. The comperes were Arunima, Namya, Farhan, Tamim, Ishita, Lakshay, and Rida. The soft board, invitations, and folders were made by Ishita, Saumya, Arunima Dixit and Aadya. Hope messages were done by Harikrishna. The digital presentation and e-invite was made by Rida and Shivein respectively.

Inter-school Cultural Festival : Aaina-Nukkad Natak- 2nd Position

The students of the Expressions Theatre Club of Delhi Public School R.K Puram participated in “AAINA”- Nukkad Natak held on 4 August 2023 organized by St Xavier’s Sr. Secondary school. They secured the third position. The students presented a thought provoking street play on the theme ‘Gender Sensitisation’ showcasing the various stereotypes.
