 Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted the long awaited Scholar Badge ceremony for Class XII in a hybrid mode at the Audio Visual Hall (AVH) on 24th March, 2022. The ceremony was carried out in three batches, with 11 sections present at the 7:45 am slot and the remaining 13 sections present at the 10:30 am slot and the third batch for the hostellers at 1 pm. 

The Chief Guest , Shri V.K. Shunglu, Hon’ble Chairman of the DPS Society and the DPS RK Puram Managing Committee consented to be the chief guest. 

The event commenced with the prayer recital of ‘Ganesh Vandana’ by the talented vocalists of the Indian Music Society. The prayer lent a melodious and spiritual start to the celebrations. This  was followed by the virtual lighting of the lamp and the felicitation of the Chief Guest.

A video showcase highlighting the glorious achievements, events, seminars and competitions hosted by the school over the previous academic year, was presented. 

In her welcome address, the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, congratulated the meritorious awardees. She spoke about how the scholar badge ceremony always served as a source of inspiration for students to excel and prove their mettle.She also took great pride in speaking about  how DPS RK Puram has created a healthy learning environment conducive to holistic development. Ms. Srinivasan encouraged her students to give their 100% in all future endeavours and not be deterred by the ever changing nature of the world. Instead, she advised students to embrace adversity and change and overcome them through positive thinking and commitment. 

The Western Dance Society performed an invigorating dance to Justin Bieber’s ‘Never Say Never’, followed by the Indian Dance Society who performed a kathak rendition of a popular song. Both performances conveyed a message of upliftment and optimism. The final performance was by the Western Music Society, who presented an inspiring original composition entitled ‘To Find our Purpose’. 

The Chief Guest, Shri V.K. Shunglu spoke on how leaving school involves taking a plunge into a ‘brave new world’. Except, this time around, all norms and rules have changed. The students graduating school today will inherit an uncertain and unpredictable world more than any of the batches before them. Mr Shunglu, in his address also said how none of us can ever master time and  mother nature. He urged students to adjust to uncertainty. It is best to learn from such events and be open to more knowledge, opportunities and information. In his conclusion he reiterated that the students remain optimistic and always take informed decisions as adults. 

The prestigious award ceremony was conducted by representatives of class XII, Ms. Richa Aggarwal, Dr. Anubha Gopal and Ms.  Vibha Arora. Students received gold medals, silver medals, blue badges, blue blazers, green badges for their continuous diligent  hard work.

The Vice Principals Dr. Renu Nayar, Mr. Naresh Miglani, Mr. Anil Kumar Kathuria and Mr. J.S. Virdi showered their blessings and wished them luck and success in all future endeavours.. They emphasised the importance of hardwork and diligence in fostering success and excellence. They congratulated the awardees as well as their parents for providing the children with adequate support to pursue excellence in academics and extracurricular endeavours. They wished their students prosperity in all future undertakings. 

The event concluded with the National Anthem.

Art Poetica 2021-22

ART POETICA

Dr Prem Kirpal Memorial Interschool Art and Poetry Competition

Delhi Public School R.K. Puram hosted Art Poetica, the  Dr. Prem Kirpal Memorial Inter School Art and Poetry Competitions, virtually, on 28 December 2021, in loving memory of Dr. Prem Kirpal, the former Chairman of the DPS Society, who is remembered for his love for poetry, art and culture. This annual extravaganza  saw students from 28 schools engage in various competitions that were tailored to be at the convergence of distinct forms of art, poetry and performing arts.

Blend Art involved recitation and dramatisation of an English poem on any social issue or theme while capturing the essence of the poem in a painting or a sketch. The online competition was judged by Dr Carreen Pakrasi and Ms Tina Rajan.

Artistic Poesy was a competition wherein a collage of pictures was shared with the students and the students were required to compose a ballad connecting the pictures in any order. The event was judged by Ms Ivy Dasgupta and Ms Anuradha Salhotra.

Lyrical Canvas was an on-the-spot drawing competition wherein participants were given a line from a well-known poem and were asked to create a visual image which accurately captured and depicted the dominant emotion conveyed by it. The competition was judged by Mr Pankaj Guru and Mr Shashi Paul.

In Inverse Rhapsody, participants were given a short poem or lines from a poem to recite twice. First, the participant recited the poem bringing out the dominant emotion as expressed by the poet and then, the participant presented it with an emotion contrasting the dominant one. The event was judged by Ms Nishtha Singhal and Ms Harneet Kaur Chahal.

Poetic Silhouette was an online shape poetry writing competition. Individual participants were required to write a rhyming poem in the shape of the prompt given to them. The entries were judged by Ms Arpita Dasgupta and Ms Tanushree Bhattacharya.

Lime-in-Rhyme was a competition which celebrated and promoted the unique and multi-layered art of limerick writing. Participants were required to write a limerick based on a verbal input and then recite it. The competition was judged by Mr Gautam Nadkarni and Dr Veena Kapur.

 

The Valedictory Ceremony took place on 11 March 2022 on the virtual platform- Zoom, and commenced with the shloka and the symbolic lighting of the lamp. The Western Music Society then presented  a melodious song on the role of  inspiration and power of victory.

 

The Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan, welcomed the Chief Guest, Shri V. K. Shunglu, Chairman of the DPS Society and Managing Committee of DPS R. K. Puram, and Mrs Shunglu. She extended a warm welcome to the Guest of Honour, Honourable Chief Justice Shri B. N. Kirpal and Mrs Aruna Kirpal. She also welcomed the esteemed members of the working committee of the school, Shri B. K. Chaturvedi, Dr Usha Luthra, Ms Vrinda Sarup, Mr Ravi Vira Gupta, Mr Rahul Singh, Dr Kiran Datar, Ms Namita Pradhan and the special guest Shri Kaushik Dutta

 

Further, Ms Srinivasan mentioned that during these testing times, art has provided us with much needed solace – be it music, dance, theatre, painting or poetry. She emphasised on how art has the power to heal us and likened it to therapy. She said that art surpasses all man-made barriers and helps people of different cultural backgrounds to connect.. Ms Padma Srinivasan spoke about the success of Art Poetica and congratulated the vying poets and artists for carrying the legacy of Dr Prem Kirpal forward. She concluded by saying that she sincerely hoped that events like this would collectively inspire and instil in the world a love for art, poetry, theatre and dance in the years to come.

 

The students of the Expressions Theatre Club then presented a gripping courtroom drama, ‘The Twelve Angry Jurors,’ an adaptation of a teleplay by Reginald Rose. The performance captivated the audience with its engaging plotline and a stunning portrayal of the various characters.This was followed by a presentation of the winning performances by various participants and the announcement of winners of various competitions. The overall winner of the event was Delhi Public School, Indirapuram.

 

The ceremony also witnessed the digital launch of the literary magazine, The Bubbling Cauldron, an annual anthology of creative expression. The launch was accompanied by the recitation of select pieces of prose and poetry from the Bubbling Cauldron by the students from Delhi Public School R.K. Puram and its junior schools, DPS East of Kailash and DPS Vasant Vihar. This was followed by a stupendous e-exhibition of fine arts by budding artists of the host school.

 

The Chief Guest, Shri V.K. Shunglu addressed the gathering and commended the efforts of the school to celebrate the memory of Dr. Prem Kirpal and expressed his gratitude to the work that Dr. Prem Kirpal has done. He then praised the play  courtroom drama, ‘The Twelve Angry Jurors’, and the glimpses  of the competitions. Furthermore, he expressed regret on not being able to conduct the ceremony offline due to the unpredictability of Covid. He applauded the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan on her determination to conduct the ceremony despite all odds. He also congratulated the participants for their sterling performances.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Atika Dayal, Head of the English Department. She appreciated the effort of all the students in displaying their talents through the various competitions and congratulated all of them.. She also thanked all the teachers of the English, Music, IT and Fine Arts departments for their support in making  the programme a success.

 

The ceremony culminated with the National Anthem.

Interactive session: Enhancing Competencies with Experiential learning

An interactive session with the  teachers from the Junior Schools,Delhi Public School, East of Kailash and Vasant Vihar was  held on 24th & 25th February 2022 in DPS R.K.Puram in the Senior Biology Lab. This session was a step towards enhancing competencies of the students at primary level by using experiential learning, the very essence of New Education Policy.

On day I, February 24,2022 the interactive  session was held for EVS teachers of Classes I and II.

 The session commenced with words of motivation by the esteemed Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan. Various innovative and creative activities were presented like awareness of sense organs by  Five senses station, Preparing Natural dyes with red cabbage, spinach, Hibiscus and beetroot.The concept of traffic lights was suitably connected with emotions to be internalized by the students early in life. The importance and means of  conservation of water was emphasized by the model of rainwater harvesting. Chapter by chapter, the activities were discussed and brainstormed by all the teachers present. 

On day II, 25th February 2022, the interactive  session was held for EVS teachers of Classes III, IV and V.

The session began with the Principal stressing upon the use of the native language while teaching the students of classes I-V. She spoke of the importance of Experiential learning and  the importance of observing scientific facts in our environment, the food that we eat, in our architecture, in every aspect of our lives;  to enable the curiosity in young students so as to encourage them to experiment and infer. 

Activities highlighting the factors needed for growth of plants, the germination of seeds,paper Chromatography, transpiration and the importance of stomata , the porosity of various types of soil, the churning action of our stomach depicted with the help of a poly bag, adulterants and their detection in our food, importance of millets, multigrain flour, use of neem and babool twigs as toothbrush,harvesting of rainwater and the use of drip irrigation to irrigate,  were demonstrated.

The vision, planning and enactment of this interactive session was provided by Ms. Niva Chhonkar, HOD Biology.Ms. Saveri Lal, Ms. Neelam Ajwani,Ms. Rituraj,Ms. Reema Khosla, Ms. Shruti Gupta, Ms. Dimple Menon, Ms. Manu Gupta,Ms. Bharti. Ms. Shalini Chanana,Ms. Kusum Yadav and Ms. Kajal Sethi organized the activities.

JIGYASA VIGYAN MAHOTSAV 2022 (NATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CREATIVITY COMPETITION)

Spurti Nimbali a student of Class X-H recently participated in the Jigyasa Vigyan Mahotsav 2022 (National Scientific Creativity Competition) organized by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and have been selected as the Grand Prize Winner for her project EpiCare, a first-of-its-kind, mobile application programmed to aid people with epilepsy and their caregivers. She has been chosen as one of the three Grand Prize winners among more than 2500 submissions and will be awarded Rs 1 Lakh for the further development and implementation of her project. Moreover, She also got the opportunity to personally interact with the Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh.
