An Interactive Session for Classes VI- VIII on ‘Cyber Security and Safety’

An Interactive Session on ‘Cyber Security and Safety’ was organised for the students, parents and teachers of Classes VI, VII and VIII.  It was conducted virtually on 1 May 2021 to address various issues pertaining to cyber life, their legal implications and how to curb the same.The Principal,Ms. Padma Srinivasan,welcomed the guest speakers and audience. The guest speakers were Mr. Anuj Aggarwal, Cyber Expert and Ms. Charu Makkar, Advocate.  Both the speakers quoted real life examples to highlight problems related to ‘Cyberbullying’, online fraud and gaming etc.  They also emphasised upon their impact on impressionable minds and  the role of parents and teachers as integral in dealing with such problems. It was followed by a Question &Answer round where certain important questions were raised and solutions were provided by both the speakers.  

In the end Ms Renu Nayar, Vice Principal thanked the Guest Speakers for sparing their valuable time to educate the children and make them more aware about cyber security. Ms. Shelly Malhotra and Ms. Archana Deepak organised the session

“GANDHI AND THE NATIONAL MOVEMENT” BY PROF. DR. RAVINDRA KUMAR

A Guest Speaker programme on “Gandhi and The National Movement” was organised by the history Department on 30 April 2021.It was conducted by  Prof. Dr. Ravindra Kumar.Prof. Dr. Ravindra Kumar joined the School of Social Sciences at the IGNOU, New Delhi in 1993. He took charge of IGNOU as the Vice Chancellor in 2016, since 2017 he has been advising Universities, Colleges and Government agencies on compliance strategies of statutory and regulatory provisions of UGC, AICTE, and NAAC on the development and implementation of Open and Digital Online Learning methodologies.

According to Dr. Ravindra Kumar,  Gandhiji’s principles can be presented in two different variants

As a fossilized entity (which is not in sync with the modern political or industrial culture); and As a Post- modern entity. During his struggle, he gave birth to the concept of ‘Satyagraha’ or non-violent struggle.  He uses two completely novel political tools in dealing with the colonial authorities. Gandhiji was against the rival ideas, methods and principles and not against British individuals. Gandhiji’s role cannot be limited. His political tools, articulation of national movement on the bedrock of morality, ethics on the principles of Ahimsa, asteya, Aparigraha. Later on there was a question answer session by the students and teachers. Mangal Prabhat is a leaflet proposed by Dr. Ravindra Kumar for the students. The Principal gave her valuable input on Gandhiji. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Shaloo Khanna.

GUEST SPEAKER PROGRAMME – ‘ROOTS TO FRUITS’ (ROOT WORDS & VISUAL VOCAB)

The English Department of Delhi Public School R.K.Puram under the able guidance of Dr.Atika Dayal, Head of the English Department organised a guest speaker programme for the students of class XII on 30 April 2021. The Guest speaker was Ms.Tarannum Naseem Raza. 

Ms.Tarannum Naseem Raza is a professional career counsellor. She is an engineer(Electronics & Telecommunications) and holds an MBA degree as well. Her logical ability and excellent command over the English language coupled with her vast experience of more than twenty years makes her a dynamic mentor. In her association with T.I.M.E for more than thirteen years she has mentored thousands of students and guided them to achieve their goals. She has a vast knowledge of various courses and the contemporary job scenario.

Her creative approach towards the subject made the session very interactive and engaging for the learners. Students discovered techniques of learning and retaining new words by following the rules of association.(Visual memory and connotations).The programme included various brainstorming sessions which fostered analytical and critical thinking.Ms.Tarannum enlightened the students about different types of words like marsupial words, joey and portmanteau words. 

She guided  the students about ways to improve the vocabulary keeping in mind the R-P-S approach (Root word- Prefix – suffix). She amalgamated pictorial references from famous movies, mythologies and novels to drop clues  and stimulate responses. 

She applied an innovative technique by introducing the concept of “Mnemonic”  so that students could grasp the meaning of new words. The session culminated with impromptu activities and interesting questions.The students found the session to be an inspiring one as it gave them the opportunity to hone language-related skills.The vote of thanks was proposed by DR. Atika Dayal. The staff members and students expressed their gratitude towards the speaker for an informative and fruitful session.
