Workshop For Parents of Class VIII

A workshop was organized for parents of students of class VIII on 23 August 2017 from 2.30 p.m.- 4.30 p.m. in the A.V.H. The session was well attended. The ideology behind the workshop was guidance to better parenting , an insight to the child’s psyche and also to create awareness towards providing a greater cyber security for our children.

A welcome address was given by the Principal, Ms. Vanita Sehgal, who stressed upon the need for greater communication with the children, for being the role model for them and for learning to say ‘NO’ to the unacceptable wishes and demands of the children.

The Guest Speakers were Mr.Anand Agrawal, Additional Controller, Ministry of Defence and Dr. Vishal Chhabra, Psychiatrist, Fortis Healthcare. Mr. Agrawal spoke about keeping tabs on the child’s use of social media, putting up security settings to prevent unwarranted cybercrimes and to be aware of trending internet games that could prove to be dangerous e.g. the ‘Blue Whale challenge’.

Dr. Chhabra spoke of various parenting types; authoritative, disciplinarian and the accepting and acceding kinds. He  laid emphasis on keeping the communication channels open, upon building the entire personality and concept of the child rather than focussing on short term goals and also to avoid comparisons with siblings or friends. The workshop was quite interactive with many  parents putting up queries and seeking advice on dealing with normal day to day dilemmas of dealing with their children.

The session ended with the Headmistress, Ms. Rashmi Malhotra delivering a vote of Thanks.
