Webinar on “Cancer Prevention and Clean Yamuna” was organised by Dharamshila Cancer Foundation and Research Centre for the students of Classes XI and VIII on 20 th November 2020 at 2.00pm on the online forum of Zoom meet app.The session was conducted by Dr Suversha Kanna(Founder cum President of Dharamshila Cancer Institute) and Dr. Pragya Singh(Senior Manager of the Institute).Initially Dr. Khanna told the students about cancer and the main reasons behind the increasing cases of this disease.Then she proceeded by enlightening the students about the levels of precautions to be taken at the right time and how self examination plays an important role to diagnose this disorder. She also informed the students how mental health also affects cancer patients and the importance of palliative care At the end of first session students understood the need of adopting healthy lifestyles to prevent this disease
The first talk was followed by a very interactive question answer session leading to the direct connect between the audience and the speaker.
In the later half of the webinar Dr Pragya shared some details with the students through a powerpoint presentation about how pollution of the river Yamuna is affecting the daily life of the people and its side effects on their health. She also emphasised on the need of understanding 5 R’s for the waste disposal and the dangers of using microplastics. She further insisted on the role of present generation and requested them to be more responsible and sensitive towards the conservation of ecosystems Dr Pragya highlighted the incidents of water scarcity in Delhi, and enumerated on the fact that Delhi might be the next “WATER DEAD” city, by the year 2030, just like Cape Town in South Africa.
Overall the webinar proved to be very enriching and fruitful and every student left the meet gaining valuable knowledge about Cancer prevention and Clean Yamuna
In the end Ms Niva Chhonkar tHeadmistress (Classes VI-VIII) and Head of Biology Department thanked the Guest Speakers for sparing their valuable time to educate the children and make them more aware about the significance of a healthy diet, positive approach and exercise to keep Cancer away.
