On 25th July 2024,a team of students visited PRAYAG (Platform for real-time analysis of Ganga and Yamuna at NMCG Office) and STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) at Okhla.
The team comprising of Nanya Gupta IX M,Satvik Daksh Gupta IX O,Shashwat Anurag IX H,Vaishnavi IX H,Vani Menon IX M,Kavin Chaudhary X L,Kabir Sahni X M, Anaisha Arora X L,Raghuveer Prakash X M, Aditi Thakur XI L working on the River Yamuna Project: ‘From Pollution to Purity’ under the leadership of Ms Padma Srinivasan,Principal.The Project is planned and coordinated by Ms Niva Chhonkar ,Head-Biology Department.
PRAYAG – which stands for Platform for Real-time Analysis of Yamuna, Ganga and their Tributaries is at National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) office in New Delhi. Prayag is a Real Time Monitoring Centre for planning and monitoring of projects, river water quality, etc. through various online dashboards.PRAYAG was launched on 20 April 2023.Mr Dheeraj Joshi,Deputy Secretary,NMCG explained about the working of different dashboards.It was amazing to check the real time monitoring parameters like BOD,DO etc indicators of river health.Mr Nalin Kumar Shrivastava, Deputy Director General, NMCG addressed the students and appreciated their interest in this project
Later the students visited STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) at Okhla,is the joint venture of Delhi Jal Board & National Mission of Clean Ganga was completed in the year 2023.This 564 MLD plant at Okhla, Delhi is the largest capacity STP in Asia and plays a major role in cleaning of Yamuna. Designed & Built on state of the art technologies, it produces a very high quality water as per international standards. The plant will utilize a UV system to treat & disinfect the water.. The plant generates 5 MW of green energy which is used to run the Plant. The byproduct sludge is also of High class – A quality, for safe use by farmers as manure.
The students were totally at awe with the design and capacity of the plant.This educational trip was an unforgettable one.
