A delegation comprising of 5 members from the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) Canada, visited DPS R K Puram on Friday, 18th July, 2014 at 8:00 a.m. They were: Mr. Shulin Dave, Senior Manager – Organizational Design and Information Management; Ms. Mary Jane McNamara, Superintendent of Education for West Region 1; Mr. John Hastings, a Politician from Ontario and School Trustee – Ward 1; Ms. Deepa Karamjeet, Elementary School Principal; and Mr. Peter Singh, Chief Technology Officer. The purpose of the visit was to share the trends in K-12 education in India and Canada, and discuss ways in which collaboration and partnerships could be developed and strengthened.
DPS R K Puram was represented by Dr. D. R. Saini, Principal, in the chair; Ms. Mamta Sharma, Education Counsellor and Ms. Reena Vardhan, Counsellor.
The meeting began with both sides introducing each other’s mission in the teaching and learning process and a brief background of the existing educational practices. This was followed by a multimedia presentation of TDSB work in Toronto, and the current ethnicity in their 588 schools. Dr. Saini also showcased the strengths and achievements of DPS R K Puram, alongwith a short clip on the celebrations of 40 years of Excellence in Education at DPS R K Puram. The delegation was then taken on a round of the school and the Sports Complex.
To sum up in the words of Mr. John Hastings, “It’s been the most productive visit we’ve had so far”. Indeed, it was a memorable event, and a great learning experience for all concerned.
