The DM-GEOQUEST Club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, organised an insightful session titled “Awareness on Disaster Management and Its Future Prospects as a Career” on 12th October 2026, under the guidance of Ms. Sangita Bajpai, Head of the Department of Geography. The session was led by Dr. Gangandeep Singh, Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), and attended by students of Classes XI and XII of DMGEOQUEST club and chaired by Ms. Rashmi Malhotra, Vice Principal.
The programme shed light on the critical importance of disaster preparedness, risk reduction and community resilience in an increasingly vulnerable world. From understanding natural and human-induced hazards to exploring effective response strategies, the session emphasised the need to shift from a culture of reaction to one of prevention and preparedness.
A key highlight was the exploration of disaster management as an emerging and impactful career avenue. Students gained insights into opportunities in risk assessment, emergency response, environmental planning, geographical information systems (GIS) and humanitarian assistance, discovering how knowledge and innovation can translate into meaningful societal change.
The session served as a powerful reminder that disaster preparedness begins with awareness and thrives on collective action. The session was curated by the collaborative effort of the Geography Department.
Further strengthening this initiative, a classroom quiz was conducted by teachers on 13th October in classes VI-XII to raise awareness and reinforce students’ understanding of disaster risk reduction. QUIZ ON IDDRR
