MATHEMATICAL CRUSADE 2023

“The study of mathematics, like the Nile, begins in minuteness but ends in magnificence.”

                                                                                                 – Charles Caleb Colton

Mathematical Crusade 23, organised by Matsoc, the Mathematics club at Delhi Public School R. K. Puram was held on 22nd July 2023. This annual event appraised individuals’ creativity and critical thinking related to Mathematics, in a unique and innovative way. The fest featured five engaging events, two online and three on-site, which gave the students of about 30 schools an opportunity to showcase their mathematical skills along with their imaginative ability.

We extend our gratitude to the Unity group for sponsoring and supporting the event.

The online segment included:

  • Math-O-Kalendar

Students had to design the calendar for the month of July 2023 in innovative ways using various mathematical concepts. The judges for Math-o-kalendar were Ms. Arunima Dasgupta and Ms. Shreya Kataria.

  • The Math-O-Phile Podcast

The participants were asked to create an enticing and thought provoking podcast on any mathematical topic out of the ones given in the event. The event allowed participants to enhance their eloquence and expression in a mathematical context. The judges were Ms. Suchitra Kaushik and Mr. Aditya Agrawal.

The offline events included:

  • Modeil Mathematica

An event where children were able to express their love for mathematics and theatre through plays based on the work of different mathematicians. This event brought out the spirit of togetherness and teamwork while placing the participants in a field of friendly competition. The judges were Dr. T.P. Sharma, a major contributor to the Department of Mathematics in NCERT, and Ms. Shreya Goel, currently pursuing her bachelors in Mathematics from NYU.

  • Symphonies of Math

An opportunity for students to exhibit their musical talent while also contributing to an innovative way of showing their passion for mathematics. The event had performances ranging from maths-infused jazz to classical remixes. The event was judged by Dr. Bhavneet Kaur, an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Lady Shriram College for Women under the University of Delhi and Mr. Mrinaal Mittal, Director, Unity Group.

  • π-o-neer’s quiz

A challenging quiz that demands students to solve hard hitting mathematical problems with abilities that include problem solving, trivia knowledge and critical thinking.

Concluding the annual Mathematical Crusade was an enticing Valedictory Ceremony which commenced with a Ganesh Vandana  by three students of DPS RK Puram. Mr. Naresh Miglani, The Vice Principal, addressed the gathering. He commended all the participants and emphasised that participation in such an event enhanced every student’s practical application of mathematics rather than the usual theoretical lessons taught in the classrooms.
Then the Vice Principal Mr. Anil Kumar Kathuria shared his thoughts with the audience. He remarked that winning didn’t matter because all those who participated were already winners. They had all been chosen from their own schools, thus proving their grit. WIth that, he congratulated all the students present and expressed his wish to see all of them participating again the following year.

The winners of each event were then felicitated  with certificates and trophies by the three Vice Principals, Mr. Naresh Miglani, Mr. Anil Kumar Kathuria and Mr. Mukesh Kumar,  and Head of Department of Mathematics, Ms. Ritu Nayar. All participating schools also received participation certificates for contributing to the overall success of the event.
