MATHEMATICAL CRUSADE 2025

“The power of mathematics is often to change one thing into another, to change geometry into language.” – Marcus du Sautoy

On 19 July 2025, Matsoc, the Mathematics Society of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram, successfully hosted the much-anticipated Annual Inter-school Mathematics Festival — Mathematical Crusade 2025. The event was a celebration of mathematical thinking, analytical rigour and creative expression, allowing students from over 31 schools across Delhi-NCR to engage with the beauty and power of Mathematics in innovative formats.

The event featured five meticulously curated competitions, each offering participants from Classes VI to XII an opportunity to showcase their logical reasoning, collaborative spirit and creative problem-solving abilities. The events were as follows:

BRAINWAVE BLITZ

A high-stakes problem solving competition, Brainwave Blitz tested the participants’ ability to navigate through challenging problems under time constraints. The competition brought together teams of sharp-minded students eager to prove their mettle, with a focus on logic, trivia and critical reasoning.

MODEIL MATHEMATICA

In a dramatic blend of theatre and mathematics, teams of three brought legendary mathematicians to life through captivating role-plays and scripts. The event demonstrated not only deep mathematical understanding but also teamwork, storytelling and stagecraft. The event witnessed theatrical performances that were not only mesmerising but also informative. The judges for the competition were Ms Bhavneet Kaur, Professor, Lady Shri Ram College and Ms Dalu Jacob, Assistant Professor, IIT Delhi.

SYMPHONIES OF MATH

This unique musical competition bridged the gap between rhythm and reason, thereby allowing participants to express mathematical ideas through songs. Ranging from Pi-themed compositions to poetic tributes to equations, the event highlighted how Mathematics is deeply embedded in the patterns of sound. The event was judged by Ms Suchitra Kaushik, former PGT Math at DPS RK Puram and Professor Jonaki Ghosh from Lady Shri Ram College.

MATH-O-KALENDER

The participants in this event designed creative calendars for July 2025, using mathematical theories, formulas and history. Their entries reflected a strong grasp of content along with visual creativity. The event was judged by Ms.Sushma Suneja, former HOD mathematics DPS R K Puram and Ms.Arunima Dasgupta, former PGT at DPS R K Puram.

PI-O-NEERS QUIZ

In this thrilling contest of wits and speed, teams of two competed in a high-energy quiz that tested their mathematical trivia, logical reasoning and critical thinking. The event began with a competitive preliminary round, after which the top 6 teams advanced to a nail-biting final, where every second and answer counted. The quiz proved to be a true battle of brains, celebrating the thrill of rapid reasoning and sharp problem-solving.

VALEDICTORY CEREMONY

The valedictory ceremony commenced with a Ganesh Vandana followed by a  melodious duet sung by the students. During his address, the Principal, Mr Anil Kumar  applauded the mathematical brilliance on display. He also acknowledged the seamless and consistent efforts of the Head of the Mathematics Department, Ms Ritu Nayar along with all the teachers and volunteers for their vision and execution. He expressed pride in the school’s tradition of fostering intellectual excellence through such platforms. He highlighted the fact that the journey towards mathematical greatness begins in school and events like Mathematical Crusade become stepping stones to future success. He took the opportunity to announce that next year onwards this event would be held on 22 July, which can also be written as the fraction 22/7, which is equal to 3.14285714, an approximation of π (pi). He also took the opportunity to congratulate the students who represented India at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2025, held in Sunshine Coast, Australia. The students, who are also a part of a DPS core school, made the country proud by winning three gold, two silver, and one bronze medal, securing India’s 7th global rank—a historic achievement.

The Principal’s address was followed by the announcement of the winners. The winners of the Mathematical Crusade were felicitated with trophies and certificates by the Principal, Mr. Anil Kumar, Vice Principals – Mr Anil Kathuria and Mr Mukesh Kumar, and the senior teachers of the Maths department. All participants were acknowledged for their efforts. DPS Greater Faridabad was declared the Overall Winner. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr Jagjeet Singh. The event concluded on a patriotic note with the rendition of the National Anthem.
