Junior Smart India Hackathon 2024

Delhi Public School RK Puram team participated in the prestigious Junior Smart India Hackathon/School Innovation Contest 2024 organised by the Ministry of Education. 6857 innovations were received for the contest from across India and DPS RK Puram made it to the top 30 thereby qualifying for the final round. The team was mentored by Ms Niva Chhonkar (Head of Biology Department) and consisted of four students from class IX-M – Pratham Bhalla (Team Leader), Kabir Sahni, Aahana Pandit and Dishita Negi. The  innovation focussed on the prevention and management of Type I diabetes in children by early detection using an app for newborn babies.The innovation solves for the challenging problem of identification of Neonatal Diabetes/ Congenital/ Diabetes of infancy. The team developed an easy to use App to identify diabetes in the Newborn (at an early age). The app branded, DiabetEASE (Sugar Identification & Monitoring), helps to track the development/recurrence of diabetes in the identified individuals. It connects lab results with the doctor,gives reminders for parameter testing at assigned interval/age & notes trends.    

Various Stages of the Contest

Held in 3 stages. In the first stage, which was the ideation stage the team brainstormed ideas and came up with an ingenious solution for  identification of Neonatal Diabetes/ Congenital/ Diabetes of infancy. The idea was then shortlisted by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell for Round 2. In Round 2 the team was tasked to make a presentation detailing their innovation,funds required, competitive landscape, roadmap for the future etc. and also present it to a panel of judges. This presentation got selected for the final round which was the pitching stage comprising the top 30 ideas nationwide. For this round the team further detailed out  the presentation and developed a  working prototype for the app.
