Inter School Theatron Competition 2013

The Expressions Theatre Club of Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram organized their annual theatre extravaganza, ‘’THEATRON’13” on 17th July 2013. Theatron provided a platform to 24 distinguished schools to showcase their rich pool of talent in the extremely diverse field of theatre, competing to win coveted titles. The competition had two categories: the first, a stage play, the topics for which were ‘Education and beyond’ and ‘Fortune favours the brave’ while the second event was ‘Face Off’, for which topics were given on the spot.

The celebration of theatre commenced with the lighting of the lamp.. The Principal, Dr.D.R. Saini extended a warm welcome to the guests, Mrs. Deepti Umashankar and Mr. Umashankar, senior IAS officers. The Vice Principal, Mrs Shobha Mehta; and the coordinators of the program, the Vice Principal of DPS Shiksha Kendra , Mrs. Pushpa Agarwal; and Mrs. Azra Saleem were also present on the occasion. Mr. Virendra Kumar, a well-known producer, director and scriptwriter and Mr. Vikas Bajpai, who recently worked in the movie ‘Kismet, Love, Paisa, Delhi’, Shri Sandeepan Vimalkanth Nagar, receiver of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akadami award(2000) and Mrs. Savita Sharma, an eminent personality in the world of theatre; Mr. Sparsh Rana and Mr. Ajitabh Singh, alumni of DPS R.K. Puram, also spared their valuable time and provided their expertise in judging the ‘Face Off’ event.

The plays ranged from empowerment of women to Gods descending on Earth and opera singing to rhyming lines. The energetic performances and beautiful portrayal of human emotions made for great entertainment. A scintillating dance performance and a short film presented by the students of DPS R.K. Puram added to the splendour of the event.

In the closing ceremony, the judges commended the performance of the students and stressed on the growing importance of theatre in schools. The much anticipated prize distribution followed with Bal Bharti School sweeping the awards, winning first prize in the stage play, third prize in the ‘Face Off’ as well as best actor in ‘Face Off’, which was bagged by Akarsh Rana and winning the rolling trophy. The first prize for the ‘Face Off’ event was won by Army Public School, the runners up being St. Thomas School. The runners up for the stage play were Modern School, Barakhamba Road and Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj. The best actress award was bagged by Anandita Rana of Modern School, Barakhamba Road.
The event was a treat for all theatre lovers.
