Guest Speaker Programme for Biology Students of Classes XI and XII

Dr. O.P Yadava, CEO and Chief Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and Dr. S. Dwivedi, Senior Consultant Cardiologist, National Heart Institute were the Guest Speakers on October 24,2016 for all the Biology Students.

Dr O.P. Yadav was welcomed by the Principal, Ms Vanita Sehgal and Vice Principal, Ms Anita Singh.Dr Yadav spoke on the topic ‘Heart Attacks- A lifestyle Malady’.He said that the incidence of deaths due to heart attacks has increased from 23% in 1990 to 34 % and Indians are 4 times more prone to heart attacks as compared to Americans.40% of all deaths are due to lifestyle disorders.He stressed on lifestyle changes like prudent diet,regular exercise and no tobacco consumption.It was surprizing to know that students can suffer from prehypertension which can be cured.He also warned to students of Passive smoking or second hand smoke.

Dr Dwivedi spoke on Tobacco and other forms of addiction.He asked the students to reduce the three ‘T’s- Tummy,tension and tobacco for good health.He also warned the students about nearly 7000 toxic substances present in the smoke.

The students thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the two Cardiac Surgeons.Students also promised to carry the message of heart friendly practices to their families.
