On 4 October 2018, Dr. Shourya Shankar Roy Burman was invited as the Guest Speaker in the Senior Biology Lab for Class XI and XII Biotechnology students. Dr. Burman, alumnus DPS R.K.Puram , graduated from IIT-Kanpur, did his Ph.D from the famous John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, USA and is now pursuing Post-Doc from Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA
Dr. Burman spoke about the scope and application of Biotechnology in the field of Medicine. He also highlighted the recent advances in this field like Drug discovery, designing and delivery, Protein-Protein Interaction Model, CRISPR- Gene Editing, Tissue Engineering, Artificial Cartilage. He added that Biotechnology is new Biology consisting of Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry and Microbiology. He advised the students to take up internship programmes/ labwork during the vacations which is crucial for in depth understanding of a concept.
