GSP- Learning from the Best #5 Celebrating 50 years of DPS RK Puram

“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; and working together is success.”  

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organised the fifth Guest Speaker Programme in the series, ‘Learning from the Best,’ on 18th December 2021 for classes VI-IX & XI.  The event was held with the intention of providing the young students of the school with the opportunity to interact with and learn from the experiences of our illustrious alums.Among those present were class representatives, teachers, and students of classes VI, VII, VIII, IX and XI.

Learning from the Best #5 featured Ms. Aarushi Goyal, Ms. Shreya Goel, and Ms. Siddharth Gulati.Ms. Aarushi Goyal is currently a student at the University of Hong Kong, majoring in Industrial engineering and Logistics management with a minor in science entrepreneurship. She believes in having an entrepreneurial spirit and aspires to learn everyday. She is a proud Founder of Gobotec Limited, her team are currently developing solutions for retrofit trolley and toilet management. Their company is currently incubated at MIT innovation node and Hong Kong science park. Besides her entrepreneurial venture, she also has worked at several firms to gain ample corporate experience and garner industry insights. As a First-Class Honours student on a full scholarship in HKU, her college years have opened up many new doors and have taught her key life skills and the intimate know-how of business operations that goes beyond textbooks.  

Ms. Shreya Goel is a third-year student at New York University, Abu Dhabi, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics with minors in Computer Science and Interactive Media. She was the Head Girl and was also awarded the Armaan Dogra All-rounder award in school. She has been a national award winner in Dance and Yoga and has trained professionally in ballet for over 13 years. She loves to sketch and in a quest to continue this balance of academia and passion in university as well, she has currently undertaken a project called ‘100 Days of Making’, for which she is sketching one art-piece every day for 100 consecutive days.

She is in her fifth semester at present and has successfully completed the previous four with consecutive 4.0 CGPA. She is a member of the dance society too and has taken up some very interesting courses in film production, art and dance alongside some very strenuous courses in Math and Computer Science.

Mr. Siddharth Gulati is 20 years old and is currently pursuing his Bachelors in Political Science and Economics from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. At the age of 15, he developed three innovative products and techniques to tackle pollution in India, for which he was awarded first from the then-President Pranab Mukherjee in 2017 and then from President Ram Nath Kovind in 2018. He also had the opportunity to review his project with Nobel prize winners in Japan. The project is currently in its implementation stage. Apart from public policy and administration, He also has a profound interest in science and entrepreneurship. He has  done internships with Atal Innovation Mission- Niti Aayog, Invest India and Business Innovation department of HPCL.

The comperes, Vinayak Dhawan and Lavanya Bhargava, enthusiastically welcomed the audience, and presented virtual tokens of gratitude to all the Guest Speakers. The Guest Speakers then shared a few words on their journey from being illustrious students of the school, to being contributing members of society. They highlighted how Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram helped mould the people they are at present, and that the multitude of opportunities and experiences that the school offers is unparalleled. They also laid special emphasis on the adept faculty of the school, who shaped the foundation of their careers and lives on pillars of support and guidance.

This was followed by the Question and Answer session conducted by Anoushka Jain and Rishita Kapur. The students of the school asked a selection of curated questions to which they received elaborate and patient responses. 

Ms. Aarushi Goyal gave exceptionally articulated and lucid advice to the aspiring students present among the attendees. She gave special emphasis on the importance of perseverance and determination, citing personal examples to motivate the students to never give up and to always pursue what makes them happy. She also put forward a cogent account of the scholarship opportunities in India and abroad to help the students get a better understanding of the process, along with several helpful tips to effectively build one’s profile while applying to universities. Her inspiring words were greatly appreciated, where she encouraged the students to appreciate the myriad of opportunities that are available to them in the school, and to make use of them, in order to inch closer to the pinnacle of success.

Ms. Shreya Goel addressed the gathering with an affable aura, and talked about her experiences managing the multitude of undertakings she had committed to during her time in the school. She shared wonderful advice with the students on time management and motivated them to seize each moment and make the best of the time they have. She talked passionately about her love for Mathematics and Science, as well as her inclination toward more artistic and creative fields, encouraging the students to not compromise on pursuing what they are interested in, even if it is unconventional. Her helpful words, in which she highlighted the importance of overcoming challenges with confidence and faith in oneself, were wonderfully received by the audience.

Mr. Siddharth Gulati conveyed his experiences as a student of the University of Delhi. He shared his thoughts and personal experiences with the admission processes of DU JAT, CUCET, and such, to help the students garner an understanding of the same. In his address, he highlighted the importance of prioritising one’s time, acknowledging the paucity of time that one faces in high school, having undertaken a lot of commitments. He also shared very helpful tips on how to score well in the Class XII Board Examinations, and urged the students to understand and grasp the concepts they are learning, instead of simply mugging it up, to make the best of their education. His insightful responses were widely appreciated by the students who hope to follow in his footsteps.

Tejas Dhingra concluded the Q & A session with inspiring words, and then delivered the vote of thanks, in which he expressed gratitude to the honourable Principal Ms. Padma Srinivasan, the respected Vice Principals, and teachers for helping make the event possible, and the Guest Speakers for taking out their valuable time. The event was organised by Ms. Shelly Malhotra and Ms. Archna Deepak, with technical support from Mr. Mukesh Kumar and his team.
