Earth Day Celebrations 23-04-2019

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram celebrated the Earth Day on 23 April 2019 with great ardour and excitement. The event was organised by Panchtatva- the Environment Club of the School with the aim of creating awareness regarding the importance of a clean and green environment and the urgent need to preserve our natural ecosystem.

The Global Earth Day, celebrated worldwide on 22 April, is an internationally recognized event designed to spread awareness and sensitivity towards our ailing mother earth. The day marks the collective responsibility of world citizens, as outlined in the 1992 Rio Earth Summit, to promote harmony and coexistence with nature along with maintaining a balance among social, economic and environmental needs of the present and future generations of humanity.

The event commenced with a morning assembly by class XII-R where students highlighted the theme “Stop Existing; Start Living” in association with the earth day, conveying the relevance of safeguarding our planet and our  environment through a prayer, thought for the day, informative speeches, skit and a group song. The students of Hope Hall School participated in the assembly and presented a melodious Hindi group song. The Principal, Ms.Vanita Sehgal, emphasised the importance of taking up responsibility towards the environment and encouraged the students to have the courage to take the right decisions that would contribute towards protecting the environment.

The Principal administered a pledge to reiterate the principle of the 3Rs- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle .The students from Hope Hall School, R.K.Puram along with the accompanying teachers  participated in a sapling plantation drive and bio-composting demonstration. The common plants found in and around Delhi were displayed in the OAT. The students also recycled plastic bottles as planters for growing Jade, Syngonium and Chlorophytum plants as a part of the recycling project. In the demonstration of composting, the students were shown the procedure about creating compost from the kitchen and garden wastes with the help of “Super Composters”.

In the spirit of Earth Day celebrations, the teachers dressed in green. The event concluded with the national anthem.
