Digex 2019

Digex, the Photography and Filmmaking  Club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organised its annual event on August 17 2019, providing a platform to talented and adept photographers from over 50 schools to showcase their photographic proficiencies.  The event was sponsored by PVR cinemas, FujiFilm, Unirely, The Chopras and PhotoNest.

The programme included  six competitions in all – Pixelate (Junior & Senior), Camistic, CreADive, HI-RES, a Surprise Event, and two workshops conducted by experts from PhotoNest for students and teachers.

Pixelate (Junior): This event was conducted for students of classes IX and X, who enthusiastically took part in a competition where they had to capture a momentous photograph on the spot expressing ‘The Emotion of Joy’. The event was judged by Mr. Jotirmoy Das, Imaging Mentor, Photonest.

Pixelate (Senior): Students of class XI and XII were given a chance to put forth their photographic skills. The participants were given the topic ‘Textures and Patterns’ and had to explore the school campus to capture the topic as extraordinarily as possible through the magic of their lens. The judge for this event was Mr. Gurpreet Singh, Imaging Mentor, Photonest.

Camistic (Storyboard)

It required the participants, in teams of two, to create a story on the impromptu topic “Small Beginnings have Large Outcomes” in 4-5 pictures. Based on their pictorial stories and questions asked by judges, the participants were assessed on their creativity, interpretation of and adherence to the topic, originality and aesthetic appeal. The event was judged by Mr Karthik Gupta, Former Member, Digex.

CreADive

This innovative competition provided the budding actors and filmmakers with the opportunity to use their creativity, authenticity and technical skills to create an advertisement on the topic,  “Cups”. The event was judged by Mr. Sidharth Grover, Former Member, Digex.

HI-RES

This was the sole offsite competition where the participants displayed their cinematographic skills by creating documentaries. The participants were required to choose one out of three given topics – “Social Issue”, “Something in the Shadows” and “Scientific  Mystery”. The judging criteria included creativity, originality, relevance and technical competency. The event was judged by Mr Sarthak Saini and Ms Prithivi Paul Chatrath, Former Members, Digex.

Surprise Event

This competition assessed the originality and technical creativity of the students through a surprise topic, “Inside the box”. The participants actively clicked pictures of the model presented before them, displaying their eagerness to exhibit their talent. This event was judged by Mr. Kashu Bhalla, Imaging Mentor, Photonest.

Preceding the valedictory, one of the sponsors, The Chopras, gave a presentation, emphasizing on the importance of one following their dreams and then gave a brief introduction and talk about the company.

The Valedictory then commenced with a short movie displaying the achievements of the Digex Society through the years.This was followed by a mime performance by the members of the Expressions Theatre Club, capturing the essence of the journey of the life of a photographer.The judges along with former members of Digex were invited on the stage and were felicitated with a token of gratitude.

Ms. Vanita Sehgal, Principal, D.P.S. R.K. Puram was invited  to address the audience. She recalled her experience with photography as a child, commenting on how developments in technology have transformed the way we click pictures. However, according to her, even in this age of coloured photographs, the true essence of life is captured beautifully by black and white pictures. She praised the students for taking up photography as a hobby and “for making photographs come alive”. Digex was complimented on its successful event,and the judges, ex-students and teachers were thanked for their effort towards making it a huge success. She gave her “heartiest congratulations” to the members and Teacher In Charge of Digex.

The prize distribution was carried out by the Principal and the club incharge, Ms. Sarika Kaushal. The awards, apart from the certificates, also included a variety of electronic devices arranged by the sponsors.

The event concluded with the National Anthem.
