Commerce Week at DPS R.K. Puram unfolded as a lively celebration where curiosity, creativity, and practical learning converged to bring commerce, economics, and business studies to life. The campus hummed with activity as students across grades took part in debates, board and soft-board displays, bookmark and slogan-making, a thought-provoking street play, an impactful project exhibition, a charitable bake sale, and the unveiling of a student-led commerce magazine followed by an expert panel discussion. Each activity was carefully designed to translate theoretical concepts into tangible experiences, giving students opportunities to research, innovate, present, and reflect while engaging with peers, teachers, and school leaders.
The week commenced with an engaging Debate Competition organised by the Business Studies Department which was held in the seminar room. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from various sections. Students articulated their viewpoints on contemporary commerce-related topics, honing their oratory and analytical skills. The topic of the debate was ‘Artificial intelligence will be a net creator of employment in the Indian Economy’.
Concurrently, students of Classes IX and XI undertook the task of creating soft boards and presenting it for judgement.
The highlight of the week was the Board Display Exhibition held in the school, featuring the work of class XI students. Each board presented complex topics such as Chanakya Neeti, Economics Maxims, Auxiliaries to Trade, Preventing Financial Fraud, Avenues for Investment and many more. The displays combined charts, diagrams, quotations, infographics, and real-life examples, demonstrating conceptual clarity and innovative presentation. Students confidently explained their work to the school’s Principal, Vice Principals, Headmistress, and faculty, exemplifying experiential learning and effective communication.
Simultaneously, the Accountancy Department organized a Bookmark Making and Slogan Writing Activity for students of class IX . The activity encouraged students to creatively express essential values related to savings, investments, digital payments, cashless economy, and ethics in business. The school buzzed with artistic energy as students designed visually appealing bookmarks paired with impactful slogans, reinforcing financial literacy and ethical awareness.
A team of Class IX students performed a compelling street play to raise awareness about the MGNREGA scheme, now known as VB G-RAM-G. The play highlighted the scheme’s provision of guaranteed employment for unskilled workers, reservation for women, and the creation of rural assets. Through a blend of humor and impactful messaging, the students educated the audience on the scheme’s role in promoting financial independence and strengthening rural livelihoods.
The Annual Commerce and Economics Project Work Exhibition was organised which showcased the impressive projects of Class XI students across subjects such as Accountancy, Business Studies, and Economics. The exhibition embodied the philosophy of “Learning by Doing.” Students demonstrated the practical application of theoretical concepts, fostering critical thinking, research skills, and innovation. The exhibition served as an inspiration for younger students, making commerce education engaging and relevant to real-world scenarios.
The Economics Department organized “Bakes of Kindness,” a bake sale held in the school.This initiative linked concepts from Economics to social responsibility by raising funds for Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger. Students from Classes IX and XI enthusiastically contributed homemade baked goods, gaining experiential insights into production, pricing, exchange, and social responsibility. The event was well-received by students across multiple classes, reflecting the spirit of transforming thoughtful ideas into purposeful social action.
The culmination of Commerce Week featured the formal release of the Commerce Magazine, a collective academic and creative effort showcasing insightful articles, case studies, and student perspectives from Accountancy, Business Studies, and Economics. The magazine release ceremony was attended by senior school authorities and department teachers, symbolizing the spirit of inquiry and real-world relevance in commerce education.
Following the release, an insightful panel discussion was conducted bringing together distinguished experts from Accountancy, Economics, Finance, Media, and Digital Marketing. The panelists included a seasoned Chartered Accountant, university professors, a senior journalist, and a digital marketing specialist. The discussion covered five thematic areas: Financial Literacy, Prevention of Financial Frauds, Role of Artificial Intelligence in Financial Markets, Influence of Social Media on Commerce, and Impact of International Economic Policies on Stock Markets.
Students actively engaged by posing thoughtful questions, while panelists emphasized the importance of informed financial decision-making, ethical practices, technological adaptability, and global economic awareness. The session bridged theoretical knowledge with practical insights, inspiring students to pursue careers in commerce and finance. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the panelists and the Accountancy Department for organizing a meaningful academic initiative.
